I appreciated this. Gave me the warm fuzzies. Glad some folks are still enjoying these. We all put literal blood, sweat, and tears into our "go play in traffic kids" videos. These clips required sacrifice from everyone involved and I can't thank everyone enough for what they contributed. Some trivia: "DGJF" - "Dick Game James Franco" Most wide angle shots are a 10mm Voigtlander Heliar modified to accept a polarized lens filter to prevent chipping the glass. The flashing clips were a nod to Jung's Symbols, and Watts' critique of them ( heard in the audio ). The idea I had was that skating was an escape from the "bad thoughts", anxieties, and paranoia of the world. Those specific clips were from a popular crank conspiracy RUclips channel that we used to hate watch around the skate house. I was on the fence about including them and will admit I'm not totally in love with them. "Adrenaline kills abstraction" was my point. I made KotM basically knowing it would be my last video. I had a few close calls filming and in the last few years I was haunted by the fear that I would film a friend dying or run someone over myself. Playing in traffic is a blast and the risk is the point so I can't tell anyone not to do it. I considered myself lucky, given the sheer quantity of filming, that nothing terrible happened and decided to stop pushing my luck. If I recut KotM ( I won't ) I would highlight the final Watts' clip before the credits. It was a message I wanted to leave for young skaters. "still, you've won all that courage; you aren't afraid of death - and no one is impressed. Real courage is only possible through not hanging onto anything". Specifically I'd wished to find a way to show the absurdity of "not hanging onto anything" and how downhill skateboarding as we performed it was a form of self destruction on one hand and a celebration of life on the other. It's a contradiction and tension that you hit right on the head at the beginning of your video : downhill skateboarding and its videos are fun because of risk. Conquering the fear of death by perfecting your technique is a noble journey of self improvement, but no one will be impressed - rather you must risk it for the biscuit, accept of the fear of death, and remain afraid ( the source of that adrenaline hit ).
@@johngarza7622 Why? It's over. You can go home now! 😂 But seriously, I've moved on and any attempts to insert myself into skateboard world now would be kind of unnatural. The things we made back then took total and complete dedication 24/7 for years. I could pick up a camera again for kicks but nothing like this is coming from me ever again. Its time for new folks to film their friends playing in traffic. I've had my fill. As for the name I'd prefer not to have anyone print those logos and use the name without the same quality of videos to accompany them. If you bought one way back your support was appreciated. I'm sure there's others out there worth supporting today.
Im really happy that you are opening a place for longboarding discussion about its beauty and pieces of creative expression that these legends have given us. You have a fresh take on a classic.
Aight, you got my subscription. This is super quality content, highly appreciated ❤️ Huge thanks 🙏🏼 I'm wondering if anyone knows what came of Alex? He disappeared from skate filming, apparently? Is he involved with S1? (Side note... As a Lynch fan I reacted at one point, though 😏 The Twin Peaks movie is called "Fire walk with ME", not "Fire walk WITHIN".) 😂
...(to me) at first it sounded like you're angry because they didn't answer to your "sponsor me!"-video or something...don't mind, sorry🙏😅 and yeah, this video is number 2.but if you ask me personally i would always prefer "recollections" from red dirt motion...🤷♂️

The last paragraph on that watts clip is something that’s even more relevant in todays hyper-personal-branding culture

He got a degree in computer science or something of the sort and works in Texas. He is also married to his Colombian bae iirc

do Second Nature!
Second Nature is actually the GOAT.
@@bober911 I think it's my favorite video overall but I wouldn't consider it "full length."
