- Whilst in Italy with Alfa Romeo I bumped into an old friend, the 1954 Alfa Romeo 1900 Sports Spider that I drove up the Goodwood Festival of Speed Hillclimb in 2018.
This car lives in the Alfa museum and is priceless, being the only one of its kind in the world. I was offered a ride but what happened next really took me by surprise.

You look like you were having one of those “pinch me I’m dreaming” moments driving that! A classic Alfa along an Italian coastline? That’s the definition of a good day!
I sure was pinching myself 🙏
Wow, such a lucky opportunity to drive a rare Alfa. Thanks for the video buddy ;)
Very lucky 🍀
Lucky man! I too was privileged to drive my friends '60 Alfa Giulietta SZ in the eighties, a a treat for me. I understand your pleasure.
Very special 👌
Nice one, Peter!
Very kind of the Alfa guardian to let you take the wheel!
I think this sort of car quite suits you!
More please!
Thanks Darren. I'd like to do more classics. Working on another one at the moment 👍
The Alfa 1900 Sports Spider is truly awesome! Looks brilliant with the low screen. Though I have come across several 1900 coupes in my travels and videos, this variant really stands out.
Beautiful from every angle 😍
Well well well Mr. Ped you have earned truly deserved trust in the industry! Massive congrats and driving a priceless 1 of 1 is insane ! Huge props to Alfa and I think that car is absolutely 😎👍🏻🇨🇦
Thank you 🙏
What a epic car sounds beautiful Chowbella! 😍
Hi Ped
You really know how to pull surprises!👍👍👍 Having owned an Alfa back in the 60’ still have an affection for the marque, and that 1900 SS is really special.🥰🥰🥰🥰
More Classics please.
A truly special car 👌
The only Alfa 1900SS in the world? And Alfa allow it to be driven on the roads. Absolutely bloody good on Alfa for that especially with a priceless, unique car. Cars are meant to be driven and not stashed away from the public eyes. I wish more car manufacturers followed suit.
The Alfa looks stunning. Sounds glorious too. Built when designers had just a pencil and a blank sheet of paper and the eye and the heart for looks rather than aero dynamical limitations.
Great video Pete :-))...
Cheers Bud 👍
Alfa is a passionate family and has its own lifestyle
Thanks for sharing your special time with the beautiful Alfa. What a fantastic surprise. Still getting over it being rhd! The low nose , side exhausts vents and grilles. Great design.
I'm not sure why it is righthand drive to be honest 😜
Great video. Alfa really looking after you Pete. Think they like you. ☺️
They certainly are 🙏
What a lucky man! The sound of that twin cam is gorgeous and that guys makes you a huge fortune to let you drive it as he says no journalists are allowed to drive it!
He was very kind to let me drive her again 🙏
Hey Pete, I recon this has to be in your top 5 videos... great car, amazing location and awesome experience!! Perfect
Thanks Bud 🙏
Hi Peter moments like that are imprinted in your memory forever and a lot more enjoyable the second time around. You jammy git. Regards Simon.
I will remember it for a very long time 👍
What a Great day for I wish I could drive something like that here in New Zealand. Totally amazing. Thumbs up .
Thanks you 🙏
What a beautiful car! Such a privilege to be allowed to drive it. An even better exhaust note than your Mini roadster! 😀
It sounded wonderful 👌
Peter...a very special motoring moment and a privilege indeed. I have always liked Alfa Romeo and was close to buying an Alfasud ti when they were new but the garages and servicing were not good even then. This car is something different but dare I be honest and say that the engine did not sound that happy...the 1500cc 4 cylinder in my old 1937 Riley 12/4 Falcon sounded much more refined. Good work...now I think you need a comparison drive in a 1955 Mercedes Benz 300SLR or even a W154 and after THAT call Audi for a test of an Auto Union V16...well you can only ask!!!!😎😎😎😎
I’ll get on it 😜😂
Petrol Ped Good work!!...after that, an ERA!!!😎😎😎😎😎
What an awesome and treasured moment that was. Brilliant footage and like you rightly said such a privilege to have driven the Alpha. Superb watch.
Cheers Boys. It was sprung on me so had to make do with the footage I had 😂
The weather looked amazing to drive such a car
i need that in my life Peter , Such a thrill
Oh yes 👍
Wonderful they agreed to let you drive the Alfa. Such an eperience. Hope you save the vid for keeps!
The vid will be on here for ever 😜😂
Epic Peter!!!! Brilliant video you lucky lucky man!!!!
Cheers Paul 👍
Really love watching your vids but ones like this are amongst the best, conveying so well the experience of driving beautiful cars like this that are museum pieces. So nice you share these experiences!
Thanks Daniel. It’s certainly very special to be able to share there things with you guys. The videos never get mega views through sadly 😥
Of course, driving an MGB along the Italian coastline would be great, but in a priceless Alfa, well, it's worth every penny!!
Peter,
Nothing like a good old reminisce !!!!!! Great car and drives for you.
Indeed 👍
Hello sir. You lucky man. A very cool gent knowing the rules, but giving you the opportunity to be at one with it. Lovely Petrol P. 👍👍👍👍
He was awesome 👍
Great opportunity and lovely to see you in it again...Portello not Portobello though...!
It was great to drive her again 👌
👍🏽👍🏽😀
Mille Miglia in 2020? Some special moments for PP recently. Great stuff!
I can always ask 😜😂
No problem. Enjoy these Great moments. Thumbs up.
Thanks 👍
That was insane!
Indeed 👍
Bet you were a bit nervous driving such a special and rare car - I know I would be! Would still say my favourite Alfa has to be the 33 Stradale followed by the 4c, but this is certainly an interesting car. Great video as per usual!
Very nervous as it normally lives in the Alfa museum 😮
Excellent video. Excellent narration, video shooting and music. I'm tired of those videos with crappy music!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it 👍
Amazing!!! and lovely vids buddy!!!incredible the less
Thank you 🙏🏻
Fantastico....👌🏻
wow a right hand drive car !!
Indeed 👍
Hi Pete, great video mate. I've got to say you suited tha Alfa, all you needed was a leather pilot's helmet and Biggles goggles 👍. You can keep the GT2 RS I'd rather a classic car any day, preferably a Mk2 Escort in full Safari rally spec 😁👍🏁
You could have 22 GT2 RSs or this Alfa 😮
It’s a hard life innit Sneakey Pete (top marks to the driver who let you re-visit the car properly), I bet you rue the day you decided to start a RUclips channel & have to do all this extra work!
We were in Puglia in September & drove the whole of the coast road from the heel to Barletta (unfortunately in a modern Fiat 500 with no engine that I could detect & the worst clutch I have ever experienced!) - I definitely recognise some of those roads, where exactly were you?
Another interesting video.
We drove from Bari south along the coast for about 2 hours 👍
Hi Peter, with that music in the back ground I pictured you driving along with a face full of cornetto and the remains of a plate of spaghetti Bologna’s around your mouth and red wine down your top. But after saying all that a great car and a great video Best wishes Alan 😂😂👌👌. P.S driving a car so expensive must have give you a lump in the back of your pants
I was wearing my big boys pants 😂
Nice one Pete.
Cheers John 👍
What a beautiful little car. By comparison modern cars are soulless, over weight, bloated and forgettable. The glory days of motoring are over I'm afraid. Bet you'll remember this little motor for a long time. Your lucky day Pete. 😁
It sure was 👍
What a ride❤
Oh yes 👌
special thing to be entrusted with one of a kind, twice !
Wow wow wow just wow
Yep WOW 😜
Another great video.
Notice it is right hand drive....
I know. Not sure the origins of that ?
I’m surprised they allow that out of the glass box that I’m sure it’s kept in. Awesome that they still drive it though.
Amazing 👏
Bellissimo!!
Oh yes 👌
What a car. Was it just me, biut when you changed over was it rolling?
Yes, we didn't use the parking brake 👍
Lucky bastard!!!
I am 🙏
Lovely little car. Amazing that it's RHD, is there a story behind that do you know?
I honestly don’t know why it’s RHD 🤔
@@PetrolPed Thanks anyway. Curious...
@@PetrolPed Most Race cars are right hand drive because most race courses are run clockwise therefore there are more right hand turns and you can drive faster if you can better see more apexes. All old Alfa's & Lancia's were RHD until as late as the early 1950's when they started making LHD. Italy used to drive on the left, so this follows. It has been suggested also that Ferrari when starting out in 1947 built RHD cars, simply because that was their countries "standard" a RHD and to match their competition in their home market. Alfa would have been the same.
Hi Mate
Hi 👋
😀 that's the next level!
Yep 👍
Sounds brilliant-very much like a tweaked fiat twin cam from 20 years later.Maybe that's just the dcoes.
When you are brave enough to give it full chat 😜😂
I bet you a penny to a pound 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖 Even though you drive some of the most expensive and beautiful cars in the world, the best feeling in the world is coming home to your lovely wife and family pets, putting your feet up and saying "I`m back home. ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Yep. Bang on there my friend 👌🐾🐾🐾🐾
When he opened the door to change again i thought for a moment that you would hit the road...
LOL...I'm not the brave !
Can't beat Alfa
Very corny music, we loved it 😄👍
Chosen because it was corny and Italian 😂
molto bene 🤌
👌
Hi Pete
Evening 👋
my dream
Mine too 😜
So, who was The Alfa driver?
He works for Alfa at the museum, looking after the Heritage Collection 👍
Not Jealous
Not much 😱😱😱😱
😜
I wonder if that guy in the gate realised he was watching rocking horse sh*t turning around?
You may have answered this, but why is this rarity right hand drive?
Do you know, I'm not sure 😬
@@PetrolPed Odd. don't you think? An Italian 'special' to be RHD.... There must be a compelling story behind that
Is she the One Peter? If you could only own one car......would she be it?
She is beautiful but way to valuable for me to own. I don't have a spare £5 million 😮
the custodian obviously likes and trusts you A LOT to break the rules....lol .... oh wait he is Italian, rules are made to be bent.
He must do 😬
you can drive my lovely car as long dont drive far beep beep mm beep beep yeah
😂😂😂
Pretty little car. I know modern injection systems are better in every way except you loose that lovely “warm” sound of an engine breathing carburettor. They all have a little hint of spitfire about them which of course used them too
