I don’t mind variety in your series-your comments always seem full of folks who appreciate new ideas and substitutions. Hope y’all enjoyed a good Easter.
We LOVE a kick ass step-mom! I’ve been raising my step-son with my husband for 15 years full time and I see so many step parents who just don’t understand when you love someone you LOVE ALL OF THEM including children. ❤️ I buy that Chick-fil-A sauce EVERY week and I don’t care what they charge..DELISH
I found them at food lion, but I checked Walmart and don’t see them there so maybe certain stores carry them but I really like them! I’d buy them again for sure
My husband works out of town a lot so I'm on my own for meals. I've been buying those mini tacos for my lunch before working at night. My local Walmart carries them. 😌
Loved this. What a fun thing to do for your step kids. ❤ And I totally understand about living in a food desert so I usually shop once a month now. Didn’t even know it was a thing until we moved here. But Our closest store is over 50 miles away. We have Walmart, Safeway, and dollar tree and our dollar tree sucks. It has a tiny little snack isle with a couple seasonings and that’s it. And there are zero restaurants here so eating out is pretty rare. Anyway, i love your videos and have shared them with so many people. I think what you are doing is awesome for so many people who need this right now and I’ve gotten so many great ideas from you! Thank you for all that you do!
Letting kids draw out of the jar to pick what is for dinner is SUCH a great idea, I wish I had that tip when my kids were little. We used to do "Volk family restaurant", where we had ingredients for a bunch of options. The person having their birthday would pick an option from each category to choose the entire menu for that night - appetizer, made dish, side dish, and dessert. I only recently found your channel and watch all the videos I have time for. You are the highlight of my day! I look forward to seeing what ideas you have. I tried one of your meals with my younger daughter this week (she is 25) and we loved it. We made Chicken a la king and pie filling/muffin mix dessert. Delicious! Next week I will make your Mexican tacos. You use things I never even noticed at the Dollar Tree before, so it's been fun to discover and try new things.
Thank you Ruth! I’m so glad you tried one of my recipes and enjoyed it! I love how dollar tree inventory is always changing, keeps me on my toes for sure haha. And it means so much that my video are the highlight of your day! ❤️
Love your dinner ideas. I completely get living in a food desert. Forever we only had a gas station locally owned that sold some groceries and made pizza. Now we have a dollar general (which I honestly can't stand but that's a me thing). If I want to go to Walmart or any other major grocery store its at least a 35 minute drive. That's if I don't get stuck behind a tractor or train that is. 😂
@@DollarTreeDinners my issue with it isn't the items they offer. They are taking so much business from the gas station market that the family has owned it for 45 years recently sold out. Luckily it was another local family who bought it. Plus when they put in the plans to build they only had a 5 year plan on leasing the land. Which means if business isn't good enough in 3 more years they can up and close. Leaving one of the ugliest buildings I've ever seen standing there in the middle of what used to be a beautiful wooded area connected to farm land.
My friend that lives in a similar small town said she has found more and more to look for signs people are posting selling eggs and vegetables and milk
I love this video. I always try to switch up my kids meals. Can you plz make a video about dollar tree lunchbox ideas? School is about to start again and i pack my kids lunch everyday. ❤
Great job ❤ I got an idea when I saw the oven..I make my Grilled Cheese in the oven too. Butter both sides like you would if you made in in a skillet. We use shredded cheese. But whatever u have. Shredded is a game changer..you can cook several at once. Put in preheated oven on 425 for 3-5 min. Flip for another 3-5 perfect crispy and buttery Grilled Cheese! Be sure to use butter if u have it. But margarine is ok. Spread from end to end for best results! Lastly if you have an Aldi near you, get the Red Bag of Kirkwood Chicken Breast. Heat in Oven. Literally tastes JUST like Chick-fil-A!!!
I grew up in a food desert similar to yours in rural NY. It seems like most rural USA suffers this issue, and my mom was a rockstar like you shopping for the entire week! PS would love to be your step kid, awesome meals!!! 😂
Food Lion and Walmart have a surprising amount of foods that are new to me. I’m working on weight loss and it’s surprising how many good products both have, as well as new or interesting products! Like I LOVE sweet hot banana peppers, the mild ones, and Walmart has a mild banana pepper mustard I’m going to try! Food Lion Carrie’s the Schmidt 647 plain white bagels that are only 160 calories and have 20 grams of fiber in them! Also Food Lion has ‘small peas’ which are like the much more expensive Le Seur brand, and way better than ‘sweet peas’. Edit: I subscribed to you!
Great ideas! The French toast yum! My grandkids love the mini tacos. Never thought about using yellow rice with them. We love yellow rice. I usually serve it with pork chops and I put the canned zesty tomatoes on top. Have a great week!
We live in a small town and to go and get much we generally have to drive 20-30-40-or more miles to get to places. The closest Dollar Tree is 20 minutes away and when I go we usually buy over $50 worth of groceries and anything else we need. It’s usually also very planned out in advance. We have a ten year old and he’s quite the foodie. In fact he’s requested me to make grits in the next few weeks (one of his favorites btw). I’m probably going to be making hamburger grits, I usually serve it up with either greens or another vegetable and garlic bread. I bake my hamburger in the oven and once I flip it I mix barbecue sauce and Worcestershire sauce and coat the hamburger on the cooked side. It typically takes 20-25 minutes at 375. Then I add the hamburger to the grits with a small amount of butter, salt and pepper to taste and then we top it off with traditional hamburger toppings (onions, tomatoes, sometimes caramelized mushrooms, and even more barbecue sauce and cheese) It’s definitely a family favorite.
In order to cook your french toast at the same time as the eggs, go ahead and dip the brioche slices in custard then put them on a greased or oil sprayed, foil lined baking sheet, bake in the oven 7-8 minutes per side (watching it so it wont burn) at 375F. When you are satisfied with the french toast, pull it off the baking sheet and put directly on each plate. Easy peasy! Saves 15-20 minutes.
Love Sheetz but it's not often I get it. I love right in a small town. We have Aldi, Walmart, Shop n Save, 2 Dollar Generals, Family Dollar and Dollar Tree, but our Dollar Tree doesn't have fridge or freezer. We also have Uni-Mart with pizza, burgers, breakfast sandwiches, hoagies. They aren't MTO but they do provide some condiments for them.
Love your frugality and awesome ideas. Just curious since u live in the country...do u have your own home garden? Gardening is a lot of work and have tried growing veggies in buckets under my shaded patio because where I live the sun burns up my plants 😂
I love the grab box idea for dinner ideas. I'll have to try it. My youngest loves French toast toast. Where I toast the bread first before I make French toast. She is a very picky eater due to sensory issues. And one day asked me what if you made French toast with roasted bread. So we tried it as the inside is more firm. It is the only way she will eat French toast.
I’ve always thought about different ways you could dress up French toast, I have thought about making French toast from peanut butter and banana sandwiches even
@@DollarTreeDinners Oh that sounds amazing, maybe add some Nutella. Once made a sandwich pocket with day old sausage gravy and then French toasted it. It was amazing but messy.
I have that same larger sized Aroma brand rice cooker and it is great. I used to own the mini sized Aroma brand rice cooker and it stunk. You have to cook the rice twice in the smaller cooker.
Why do people eat like this? Do you not love yourselves? You can eat for $5 a day with plenty of whole foods instead of this slop that will turn you diabetic by 35
Diabetes is genetic. Some people can stave it off for a while by being very active and eating a low-carb diet, but it's a huge lie that eating poorly will "turn you diabetic." Eating a whole foods diet on $5 a day requires planning, the right tools and appliances, appropriate storage, and both the time and energy to prepare food. People living in food deserts tend to be poor, and poor people tend to work longer hours at more physically exhausting labor. Eating a diet of fresh vegetables and fruit, lean proteins, and healthy fats costs a whole lot more than $5 a day and requires year-round access to such foods, a luxury that most people really don't have. Please don't dismiss people for not "loving themselves" and instead look for less judgemental and more factual answers to your question, "Why do people eat like this?"
@@Olive_O_Sudden If you think diabetes is simply 'genetics' you are hopeless. There are affordable options like cabbage, frozen spinach, and canned fruit that keep for a long time and available year round even in food deserts. You can also buy meat in bulk on sale and freeze it. And besides it's not like eating unhealthy on a budget doesn't require planning, appliances and storage as well. Stop making excuses for yourselves.
Buying meat in bulk and freezing it requires planning appliances and storage. And food deserts are areas with limited or no access to fresh food so where exactly do you recommend that they buy cabbage? And to further expand, how is someone with a very limited amount of money (I.e. $35 a week) supposed to spend most of that buying in bulk? That just means for that particular week they won’t eat anything else.
Lol 35 mins is not inaccessible. Try 6 hrs min for my nearest ALDI lol. You ruined perfectly good French toast with peanut butter and perfectly good eggs with ketchup. Why?
If it gets eaten then what does it matter what was put on it? If they like ketchup on their eggs and peanut butter on their French toast that’s their business.
