last question : why do have men more erythrocytes than women ? I thought that Testosteron stimulates Thyroxine and that Thyroxine stimulates EPO and EPO stimulates the bone marrow which produces erythrocytes . I am a little bit confused sorry for my questions but I would be very happy if you answer
Men have a higher haemoglobin than women to supply their larger muscle mass with oxygen. Release of EPO is stimulated directly by oxygen lack which is detected in the kidneys. The EPO is produced and released by the kidneys, and then circulated to the red bone marrow.
Q? 'are' the REPOS cells associated with the glomeruli some how? All I know about glomeruli is that it has it's afferent and efferent component and is involved with regulating blood pressure (angiotensin,) but we weren't introduced to these REPOS fibroblasts in our undergraduate histology course. I know someone who has a serious kidney ailment in which the basement cells in the glomeruli are not functioning as they should, and though they are living fully, the medication course is very sophisticated. Thanks for this video class.
No they have nothing to do with glomeruli or its tubules. They are part of Interstitial tissue of cortex and medulla but they come close to efferent arterioles of distal convoluted tubules and vasa recta just to sense its Oxygen contents via Heme protein inside them. There is more to the story though
found an eythropoietin (wepox safe 4000) in my dads fridge while visiting him. at some point in time, his kidney was filled up with fluids and had to be treated on. His not the kind of man to speak of his illness so being we live in a different state, we dont know what is going on. My question is, does it mean that my dad is in danger? is he at a point whee he needs a transplant? im scared.. please respond..
+Aline kapakasi If someone needs EPO, assuming they have chronic kidney disease, typically they will be in stage 4 CKD, with a GFR of less than 30 mls per minute. More than this it is difficult to say. Im sorry you hare having this problem.
Im not sure that cancer thrives in an oxygen depleted environment, it these an evidence base for this idea? However, you are correct in thinking that EPO will increase oxygen flux to the tissues.
Forgot to write the name of the medicine> It is Carvedilol 12.5mg, would this medicine given to elderly assuming if the absorption of the medicine prolong due to old age, and the continue of this medicine at 12.5mg per day, does this cause overdose and hence problem to the elderly eg the problem I mentioned? thanks,
My wife suffers from sickle cell disease coupled with stage 5 CKD. She is currently receiving the lowest dosage of erythropoietin to boost hemoglobin, however blood pressure and pulse rates have gradually increased. Can this be the result of the EPO?
@@Campbellteaching Her hematologist and a specialist prescribed the monthly injections which have proven to minimize the occurrences and severity of the pain crisis that come with the disorder, however her blood pressure and pulse has elevated which was indicated as a common side effect. And she also suffers from stage 5 chronic kidney disease, as we're trying to lower her creatinine and raise the GFR.
I watched this video to find out how to pronounce erythropoietin, and ended up discovering a great channel! :)
Is this good stuff for race horses? lol
I am a kidney patient with Stage 5 CKD and I have just started taking EPO. Thank you for explaining it all so well.
Hi. Did you do it while on dialysis?

arismoonlight grande
What would the max safe hemoglobin be. Cyclists can have extremely high natural and also epo induced numbers
The bigger your muscle mass, the greater your oxygen demand, hence the kidneys need to produce more EPO to fuel that muscle, hence more blood mass.
fantastic explanation!
Thank you very much very special explanation
Good video thanks doc !
Sir, my father have low HB problem. We are using transfusion and Epokine 1000 inj. Please advise.
HB = 6.0
Createnin = 4.3

Thanks. Wonderful video. Is it safe to take EPO for enhanced athletic activities? Not competition, just self improvement.
No, it thickens the blood, making thrombosis more likely. Purity supply would also be an issue.
If you sunbathe regularly, the extra vitamin D stimulates higher production of erythropoietin anyway. Why go the chemical route?
The drugs do work. Just ask Dr Ferrari.
Can increasing erythropoietin for someone with hemochromatosis be a viable solution instead of them having to have blood removed from their bodies?
This is intriguing. I wonder this too.
Does holding you breath stimulate the production of EPO.
Red blood cell or haemoglobin are responsible to transport oxygen in blood stream ??
amazing thx so much sir
Thank you doctor 👍👍
I speak very bad english but i understand your présentation thanks
thank you

Thank you for this valuable video, does beta blocker slow down the production of EPO by the kidney?
not as far as I know

I'm getting an EPO test result next week. Maybe ill die of jak2 mutation before covid 😀
decrease amount of oxygen in blood reach of kidney stimulate EPO release ..??
then the person has anemia or any respiratory system problem such as COPD..??
Yes, reduced levels of oxygen in the blood perfusing the kidneys stimulates the release of EPO.
Yes, this can also happen, thats why people with COPD can get polycythaemia.
