Anyone younger than 40 have no idea how special these special effects were. .. I'm 80, saw the original "War Of The Worlds", "Earth vs. The Flying Saucers", "Angry Red Planet" and a bunch of other "state of the art" films on Saturdays at the local theaters which was about eight miles away. I rode my bicycle to and from....no problem !!
I am almost 60, so I saw all those movies. People back then had no idea how the universe truly worked. Even today, Mother Nature still amazes us every time we explore a planet or even an astroid!
Trivia note: Film location is Westward Beach (SE end of Zuma Beach) a public beach in Los Angeles County, California. Just west of Point Dume, Malibu. (No, not Point Doom, but locals pronounce it the same). Iconic scene and for the time, a profound statement about Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) Policy. Filmed about 3.5 miles from the home of one of the two authors of MAD. At the time of the film, the other author was no longer living in his former home in Santa Monica or Malibu. That MAD author (fun way to phrase that) Dan Ellsberg, wrote a work on the vulnerabilities of global nuclear deterrence, The Doomsday Machine, 2017. Again at the time of the film, he had recently been acquitted by SCOTUS of charges related to leaking the "Pentagon Papers" about the Viet Nam War.

That was an awesome sci fi, I can't believe I missed it when it first came out. I was around 25 in 1990 when this came out, and this had a lot of stars in it. At least I got to see it now, and I really enjoyed it. When you got good writing everything else is secondary. If you got shitty writing, no special effect can fix that. It is kind of funny the way these iconic stars were type casted, cuz they acted just like you would have expected them to act, maybe there was a little too much of that but still it was a great sci fi. Is the name of this movie New Trinity? Well there's the problem. There was no trinity about anything in the movie. If that's the movie's name, that could be why it didn't do well.
This movie has quite the cast. I recognized Tim Matheson, Dorian Harewood, Peter Boyle. Based on that I found out the film is called Solar Crisis from 1990. It also features Charleton Heston, Jack Palance, and Corin Nemec (who was later seen in Stargate SG-1).

This movie is obviously really old because the star Sol looks nothing like that inside, as we now know thanks to things like The Solar Parker Probe, which flies an orbit from Venus into Sol's corona sphere over and over every few years, giving us incredibly detailed information on how the Sun works. For example, there are magnetic lines that fold back in on themselves, which is really weird.
Anybody who wants to watch an 80’s cult classic, alien movie, I recommend The Hidden. It’s hilarious in parts and is nuts overall! The old man kills it! 😆 The stripper is pretty cool too. Enjoy. Oh, one more excellent sci-fi movie for those who don’t know is Sunshine. That one is really good. Bonus: A JFK conspiracy parody? movie, another classic, Winter Kills with a young Jeff Bridges. It’s also completely nuts.
It's always a mistake to open with a long narrative. It says the producer doesn't Trust the body of the story to capture the viewer's attention by it's self. It is a better story than that.
