    I've actually noticed that some of those engines are introduced by Karbonite and Karbonite+ mods. It's so hard to tell RoverDude mods apart :D You're awesome guys!

    One of my favorite things about your videos is that you talk about real-world missions. I often learn something new, so keep up the great work!

    Mark, not only are you extremely smart and good at KSP, but you have one of the best youtube channels I've seen, I can't wait to see how big your channel gets to, and although you might not see this, I hope your channel gets a lot bigger.

    • @MarkThrimm
      @MarkThrimm  7 лет назад +5

      Thank you, it's nice to hear that! RUclips is actually running a lot of channels (mine included) through a rough period and it's hard to tell how things will evolve. But I'm sure with viewers like you it's gonna be fun, so stay awesome!

    Actually, in the upper atmosphere of Saturn (around the region where the relative gravitational acceleration is approximately 1g, coincidentally) it is also possible to survive without a space suit provided you are away from the most turbulent parts of the atmosphere. You'd need some sort of floating platform to stand on of course, and also some protection from the cold and some breathing apparatus, but that's about it.

    • @MarkThrimm
      @MarkThrimm  7 лет назад +9

      That's very interesting! Although I suppose storms on Satrun might be a little more severe, since it's a gas giant with supersonic winds :D If you could provide me with a link where I can read a bit more about it, I'd be very grateful. Cheers!

      +Mark Thrimm Actually the surface of titan would be by far the best, the pressure is 1.5 that of earth, and 99% of nitrogen, the mask would not even have to be tight, no problem if some leaks happen. Only real problem is that it is cold, but thats far more easy to deal with than 400c.

    • @MarkThrimm
      @MarkThrimm  7 лет назад +5

      That's the point about Venus. High up in the clouds the temperature is ~70C, much less than on the surface.

    • @MatterBeamTSF
      @MatterBeamTSF 7 лет назад +6

      Protection against the cold on Titan is several centimeters of insulating foam at a minimum. You'd be the walking Michelin Man.

    Since you're looking at modded intakes, have you looked at the Explodium Breathing Engines add-on?
    Their atmCurve numbers need adjusting yet, but if anything those adjustments would increase thrust and reduce ISP. They are useable now though, without being unbalanced.

    Great video! What skybox are you using? There's also a mod called Explodium breathing engines, wich are jet engines that work on intake explodium and oxidizer. The're also great for Eve operations.

    A contract to mine ore from Eve and deliver it to Gilly. What's next? Collect sand from beaches and deliver it to the desert?

    • @MarkThrimm
      @MarkThrimm  7 лет назад +1

      Or bring more wood to the forest haha. It's pointless and I've never taken this contract in a stock game, as you'd spend more money on the vehicle than you'd get paid. But here it might just work so why not. Hopefully when the expansion hits, we'll have more control over making contracts.

    About the picture of the "crab" on Venus. You'd think they'd recognize part of their own probe?

  • @syriuszb8611
    @syriuszb8611 7 лет назад

    I strongly recommend Hangar mod by allista. It gives hangars parts where you can put whole vehicles and they are unloaded until you undock them from hangars. It also includes fairings that carry unloaded ships, so you can lower part count in heavy starts too, if it is problem for you. For me it is must have mod, since my computer is "little" weak for modded KSP.

    • @MarkThrimm
      @MarkThrimm  7 лет назад

      Isn't he the author of Ground Construction as well? We'll be building Duna base using this mod in the future, so similar types of containers will make it to the ship as well :)

  • @MrZandark55

    The fact that you could survive a few time of Venus reminds me about the Venus equivalent of Mass Effect Krogans, where Krogans actually go without suit to show how Krogan they are and have all their bones crushed, expect one who could have all fertile females.

  • @eekee6034
    @eekee6034 2 года назад

    What you need is propellors to lift the engines away from sea level. :) But it's tricky to have both propellors and hypersonic flight for getting into orbit. Not impossible, but tricky. Edit: Oh! And then you mention propellors. I wonder... perhaps the mods have changed now, but I wonder if the electricity consumption was too insane for solar panels in the bright sunlight of Eve. Ah... hmm... I think it was.

    Your baristochrone profile if done would get you to almost half of a thousandth of the speed of light. Hohmann trajectories are a LOT cheaper and vastly more possible though, even with a torch drive. I'm just shock the government gave you permission to light that thing up in the atmosphere honestly.

      Tainted love (oh)
      Tainted love
      Don't touch me, please
      I cannot stand the way you tease
      I love you though you hurt me so

    You've had reasonably aerodynamic SSTOs before, but both of your Karborundum vehicles were built like bricks. I'm left wondering what caused this change in design philosophy.

    Like, in spite of bad jokes.
    Oh, who the heck am I kidding - the bad jokes are part of the like. :D
    Normally, I'd be a little skeptical/turn my nose at modifying the parameters of the mod engines, but I think you're right - those figures are ridiculously over the top and seems like a mistake.
    Also fun figure - rough calculation is that in a brachistachrone trajectory like you laid out in the episode, the time to Eve would be about 8 hours for the people on the ship, but almost 9 hours for people on the ground due to time dilation at fractional c velocities. (VERY rough calculation using an online calculator)

    • @c7aerospace
      @c7aerospace 5 лет назад +1

      Sloane Mac Tíre That’s why I prefer Alcubierre Drives or Hyperspace Drives instead of accelerating in the laws of physics. Even a few seconds of intentional time dilation would weird me out.

    I know it's a bit late to mention this but, your biggest SSTO only has a 440 Ton payload capacity, Really? I built a 1000 ton payload capacity SSTO in my sleep! No but seriously I cannot express how much I appreciate that you've been doing this series, I watched your videos before I even had a computer! And you're videos are one of of the main reasons I even tried building SSTOs at all. So... Thank you, and please continue being as awesome as you are. For those who are curious, this is the SSTO I was referring too. kerbalx.com/Kronus_Aerospace/1000-Ton-SSTO

    • @MarkThrimm
      @MarkThrimm  7 лет назад

      Thanks,I'm glad you like the series :) The only reason why I don't build bigger SSTO spaceplanes is the framerate. With anything that is actually useful this ship has about 5fps in the atmosphere with all the visual mods so it's already pretty bad. It's possible to make bigger ships, but flying them would be extremely boring and tedious, that's why I never make them. As you know, I repeatedly used rocket SSTOs to put payload that are over 1000 tons into orbit simply because they end up being lower on the part count. Cheers!

    • @kronusaerospace8872
      @kronusaerospace8872 7 лет назад

      Mark Thrimm I completely understand, I honestly built some of my larger SSTO's just to put on Kerbalx. As I would never use them due to getting around 1-2 fps with them.
