    I'm confused about how Zelda is portrayed as a damsel in distress. Oot she's literally shiek, fighting back against Gannon. Wind waker, sure she gets kidnapped somewhat early in the game and falls into this roll. Twilight princess she just sacrifices herself for her kingdom. She's never kidnapped and never shown to be in need of saving. Skyward sword, she's again fighting back against demise and sacrifices herself to keep him sealed. She's not portrayed as needing to be saved. She's half of the puzzle needed to save the day. Link being the wielder of the master sword, you know. The sword of evils bane is the only reason he "saves" her other than that she kicks ass in every Zelda post like Zelda 2.

    Weapon durability was not a big deal for me. There was always better weapons to be found, and if there was a weapon you really liked, it was pretty easy to find it again. There was a few weapons that only had a specific amount but those weapons werent the strongest anyways. The forest dweller series just hangs in my house. • @theoaremevano3227
      @theoaremevano3227 Год назад

      The problem I had wasn't that losing a weapon was inconvenient, but that the breaking made me think more about when and where to use them, which led me to the realization that there was practically no combat involved in clearing the game's main objectives.
      Crossing the open world, it was easy to completely ignore enemies to get anywhere, most shrines barely had any combat in them, and Divine Beasts only had their boss fights, which could also just be done with the Master Sword if you got that. I never really felt like there was enough combat in the permanent objectives to get me to use more than a couple of designated 'throwaway' weapons. The rest, like enemy camps and overworld minibosses, were optional and also regenerated with the next rise of the bloodmoon.
      To that end, I'd say they don't even need to 'fix' the system so much as they need to 'use' it more. I'd like to see more dungeon/challenge areas and 'permanent' overworld objectives to justify burning my supply of weapons on them. If a weapon's gonna break, it's not that I'll avoid ever using it, I'm just going to analyze what objectives are 'worth' that cost.

    • @Captain7484
      @Captain7484 Год назад +1

      Agreed, it appears people don't understand the reasoning for this mechanic; which was to encourage the continued search for new and more interesting weapons. Everything about Breath of the Wild was crafted with the idea of Adventuring in mind.

    • @theoaremevano3227
      @theoaremevano3227 Год назад +1

      @@Captain7484 : I think the 'adventuring' may be the problem people have more than the mechanic itself. I was surprised at how little fighting was involved in most of my goals. The gear loop is sort of separated from the main content, so depending on the player, you may hit your goals with it pretty early in the game.
      However, I think there are a number of things they could do that would each solve the problem, and it looks like they've come up with a solution anyway, one that doesn't appear to remove the mechanic. :)

    I think this game is really bringing to light a philosophical divide between longer-standing Zelda fans and fans whose first intro to Zelda was BOTW. I have to be honest…as a Zelda Boomer, I am not looking forward to this game. This may be the first Zelda game I do not buy. My primary issues are that I never want to fight the BOTW enemies again and I really don’t want to be back in this world. I spent so much time in that world and fighting those enemies. Doing that again simply doesn’t interest me.
    I will wait to see what other players say, but if there aren’t dungeons or playable Zelda or some really drastic change like that, I will sit this one out. But I acknowledge and respect that things change with time. People really seem to love post-BOTW Zelda. Things change, but our tastes don’t always change alongside them, and the new Zelda really just isn’t to my taste. C’est la vie.

    • @shanok3
      @shanok3 Год назад

      It's quite a fair critique. I loved BotW the moment I saw the gameplays and I knew I HAD to play it. Well, I am a casual player and it was the first game I spent more than 100 hours on. From that moment on I thought I wanted all things zelda, but after trying Majora's Mask, I was a bit dumb founded... I could barely find my way through the game(and I always died on the three day mark, had to look that one up to understand what in hell I was doing wrong), I was a bit thrown back by it. So I got to the same-y feeling, though a bit reversed: I liked the "new" Zelda, but not the old ones(at least not playing them...), even though I liked to see the playthroughs. I like the lore and stuff, but I can't exactly say I like the sensation of playing through them oldies. Well, to each their own, i guess. From a "new zelda player" to an "old" one, thanks for being a nice person with your opinion and not simply shitting the creative process of everyone, and adressing real faults you think you have and the creative differences you got, even though they might not be bad ones, it's just not your thing, and that's okay!

    The problem with dungeon-items would be that usually they lock a certain area of the game and that would not be good for an open world themed game the same would be with playing as two different chars as this would force you to play another character to progress the only thing I could imagine would be choosing between playing Zelda or Link at the beginning but that seems far fetched

    One thing I've noticed with the items that appear like they have been crafted is it does looks like there are still individual components, like the wooden shaft Link is holding in many of them. So one way durability could exist and still not fully lose the unique weapons would be that the components could have durability that affects the weapons overall durability.
    As noted the wooden handle could be the only component that breaks. Link requires the other individual components and could recraft it with a different shaft. This could even mean link can chose to break down a weapon when its getting close to breaking either thru a repair functionality or by just replacing the component that is low on durability.
    There could even be ways to enhance the component(s) before using it to craft an item. A raw wooden stick could be used with a rather low durability or it could be refined to enhance durability. As well as other materials could be used like making an iron bar for the handle.

    No spoilers ahead.
    As someone who doesn’t really care if things are spoiled or not, I took a look at the leaked artwork today and it was really pleasant. Unless you plan on spending 20 minutes looking at every pixel on every photo analyzing it, I would say it’s worth a quick look.
    Saying it’s leaking spoilers is like saying they don’t want to release the game title and just call it botw2 because it might spoil the story.
    Sure, I sort of know more what the broom looking logo thing and the green vials on link’s belts both mean and I know that link wears different armors and clothes but it didn’t ruin anything more than a new trailer would. Just because I know what they look like, I’m still not sure of everything and could use some good old fashioned theory crafting for them.
    TLDR
    It’s not spoiling any more of the game than saying us getting three cryptic trailers spoiled anything and it’s worth a quick one time glance if you’re as excited about this game as I am.

    I can't say I agree about your point with trailers not showing too much and only scratching the surface, because Nintendo does tend to show off way too much in their trailers, and by the time Breath of the Wild came out, there was very little left in the game that we hadn't already seen, every enemy, every NPC, about the only thing that surprised me was the Yiga hide out.
    Also being less sandboxy would be a bad thing in my opinion, I think the old style of linear 3D Zelda from 1998 is a bit antiquated at this point and would much rather have a big land to explore without a bunch of dialogue down the pace. In fact, for me, the low points of BOTW was actually interacting with the NPCs required to access the divine beasts. I personally don't understand how the story ever became a huge focal part of Zelda because frankly speaking, they've never really been that interesting, it's the setting that's interesting, the most interesting dialogue has always come from optional NPC interactions, at least in my opinion. So I wouldn't exactly want them to go back to that old style now when they are on such a roll.

      This is also what I was thinking! I know feelings about Age of Calamity are mixed, but I feel like it certainly served to gauge player interest about Zelda’s more active role in the story. It sort of makes sense to me they might take that into consideration? Regardless, this Zelda likes technology and research, so it makes sense to me that she’d have a kind of storyline where she helps uncover the mysteries of Hyrule and Ganon.
      I love a good trope, but honestly, I don’t think there’s enough out there (we’re not looking at leaks in this house) to say that people shouldn’t worry about Zelda not being a damsel in distress in TotK. Hopping on the big floof, which is what I call the companion carrying Zelda in the caves, and exploring/researching isn’t far off from Zelda from BotW pre-Calamity Ganon captivity. I don't think Zelda even really got the damsel in distress treatment in BotW. She was holding back Ganon for 100 years, that is NO pushover of a feat (so in a sense, she "saves" Link - gives him time to be restored in the Shrine of Resurrection). So It was more a joint cooperation between her and Link.
    But I agree it'll be great if we can see more action from her throughout the main story this time around - I feel like some of the signs (e.g. official art of Zelda with altered Sheikah Slate, the fact that they are clearly separated somehow) are still pointing towards her being playable in SOME fashion. Even if for just short segments. I'd say it's a 50-50 chance. The fact that it hasn't been confirmed makes her playability doubtful. OR it might be one of Nintendo's last big secrets for this game, because they're clearly hiding a lot from us still.

    While BotW had an interesting and exiting world it's also true that it was severely limiting outside of the explanation aspect.

      I'm not too concerned. Yeah, they are using the same overworld, but they also removed 120 shrines and 4 Divine beasts that were all on separate maps from the main one, and there's still enough content that they had to double the size of the memory card the game is stored on. So they added enough to replace those and still needed significantly more space to store the game.

    I have been saying for a while now, that optional dungeons should exist. Challenging, puzzle filled dungeons. And they could reward special items, but not mandatory items. Things like boot spikes, so the dungeon would require them, and then AFTERWARDS you would be able to climb any surface, during the RAIN. But again, OPTIONAL.

    The weirdest thing with me, BOTW and most other people is that I didn't really miss the dungeons, I always felt the dungeon items were pretty boring or useless outside of their dungeons (with some exceptions) and often found BOTW's varied arsenal more inspired and interesting to use.
    I dunno. I've been a Zelda fan for a long, long time. A Link to the Past is probably my favorite game that isn't BOTW, of the Zelda games. So it isn't like I completely dislike dungeon items... But when I played BOTW for the first time, it felt like Zelda clicked for me proper.
    I hope I get more of the same, maybe a little more Zelda sprinkled in. But I know how the team is. They don't like to tread old ground too much... MY concerns were that the game would become more linear, less open and all that. It *looks* like the game will be a merry blend of both so far... maybe? I dunno. I'm definitely not worried anymore, after the last trailer.

    I never thought of Zelda as a "Damsel in distress" in past (3D) Zelda Titles.
    For example, in Ocarina of Time, she operates as Sheik to disguise herself from Ganondorf.
    She is only kidnapped just before the end as she drops her disguise, which makes complete sense in the context of her situation.
    The other games I played also involve her quite a lot, just not as a playable part, more like someone who is managing the situation from behind the scenes, much like her holding the triforce of wisdom implies to the player.

    That said the first worry you mentioned was Zelda not being a mere damsel in distress. Thinking back, after the Nes and Snes eras, I can't think of any of the games where Zelda is merely a damsel. Even in Twilight Princess, she's pivotal during the most plot important scene in the game. She's on her own quest in SS, Windwaker she is again active.
    I think this perception isn't quite right, and when she becomes a damsel in distress, well I think there's a deeper mythical reason that "trope" persists in storytelling

    Remember when people made the first "flying mine cart"?
    This was the call sign for production "they like to make wonk things to allow new things in game". the dev's could just make a flying bird, or a transport car, but they saw that flying mine cart controlled by magnesis and gave us the parts to build the "car we want to build.
    "but sir, this can break the game physics and mechanics!!!"
    "Just let them do it them, this is what they like to do"
    This is how I see the game will be "creative". The game will give you pieces and a blueprint, but if you want something different you can make it different.

    Question. What are some more things or monsters that you would like seen brought into tears of the kingdom.?
    I would like to see the deku tribes or scrubs return as a semi friendly race to interact with. Imagine a great migration of the wooded creatures returning to hyrule after hearing hyrule had been rid of dark beast Ganon only to come back, settle and have things start happeninng all over again.
    Game play wise it would add another race to interact with and give quests to the player concerning this race which is reintroducing itself back to hyrule. Them wanting to take up residence in the forested parts of hyrule or resurfacing from. The caves after being driven into them 100 years ago would be supper interesting. (maybe being driven out again by ganons activity). Maybe it could also bring a quest line where an influencial part of their tribes wants to reintegrate with the malace of Ganon and you have to stop it. They could also bring insight from outside of hyrule. Refrencing regions from other games like labryna or holodrum.
    Or they could be the merchant scrubs that you have to fight every now and then in order to trade for goods.

    I don't think they would, but I have some secret fear that they would just use this game to loop the timeline again from the start aka Skyward Swords, but what's the point in that? The same old stuff all over again from the beginning? That's dumb, boring, as well as forgetting that the whole beginning of the Zelda setting started _before_ Skyward swords, with the Goddess Hylia, her Chosen Knight, and the Demon Demise before he initially got sealed that very first time. Skyward Sword was a comeback, and when he is defeated in this game, he makes an unbreakable curse.
    Honestly, I'd love to see some iteration of Ganondorf, whom, discovering the old history of pre-Hyrule and the story of the curse, sets about to break it or remove himself from bearing a hatred that wasn't his, if you interpret that the curse just interprets someone before birth with the potential to follow through with "hatred" and decides that person is the subject of the curse. Wanting to better his Gerudo people and chafing at the King is one thing, that insane levels of hatred that it ignited and consuming Ganondorf is another. I point to Ganondorf in _The Windwaker,_ who acts like none of the other versions of Ganon we ever have seen...he seems tired, and acts like he's just going through the motions, just to get it over with. Resigned. He "has to" perform these actions because he is being forced by fate at this point. I figured that this version of Ganon had found out something forbidden about himself, and the idea that he was cursed with a hatred he didn't really want a part of anymore, but couldn't do anything about. Link's shoving that sword into his head and turning him into a stone statue probably more felt like him getting to have a vacation or rest finally.

    BOLD PREDICTION (16th March 2023): Considering the game is about 7 weeks away from release and we have seen very little actual gameplay. I predict that the player will be able to choose to play the story as either Link OR Zelda, and whichever character you do not choose will be swapped out for the character falling in the trailer. Could this be the reason for Zelda's new haircut. Both character models are now very similar. Nintendo recently hinted that the $70 price tag was representative of the amount of content in the game (i.e 2 characters, 2 play-through's or additional character specific levels) With most of the game's world (that most of us have explored every inch of already), assets, character models and gameplay mechanics reused from BOTW, there really need to be 6 years worth of development here, especially for the price increase. There needs to be something BIG to encourage people to buy this game. Could playable Zelda be that reason?

  • @Repyhebuc
    @Repyhebuc Год назад

    Honestly, i loved the weapon durability system in BOTW. It finally gave you the element of surprise and rendered Link a less OP character while fighting enemies. Sure it wasn't perfect, there was an over abundance of weapons to find in Hyrule, and the possibility of expanding the inventory did not help to make the game more challenging. It 's a good thing you showed the dominion rod of TP because it sums up exactly one of the aspects that i hated about that Zelda: The (non)usefulness of unique items. Take the dominion rod for example. It was a cool item, yes, but only during the temple of time where you could control statues wielding an axe that could attack enemies in your stead. Once that dungeon is over, poof! The rod becomes practically useless. Sure, you can use it to control other statues all over Hyrule but they are disarmed and only used to reach otherwise inaccessible places. The same goes for the spinner. Once the arbiter's ground is over you can use in just a few places to reach treasure chests. It could have been an alternate means of moving through Hyrule had they added high speed rails in some places but no. The slingshot might as well have been replaced with the bow because why would you ever want to use it again afterwards? That s why i hope that unique items will not return in TOTK and that the weapons seen in the trailer will also have some durability of sorts.
    There is a way to make the current system much more likable and less boring. By adding a weapon crafting system: There would still be weapons to find in the map of course, but they would only be low to middle tier weapons that would break after a few hits. These weapons though, could be used as a base for much more powerful ones, by reforging them using drops from enemies, ores, and other stuff you find in Hyrule. Weapons which are about to break could be repaired, and thus giving you the chance to keep your favorite weapon with you at all times. Such a system would justify collecting stuff even more than before, giving the player something to do at all times. Basically this means, to expand the concept of forging the weapons of the champions seen in BOTW, and why not, maybe the same could be done for new clothings. The inventory could still be expanded but not as much as in BOTW, so there would be a limit to how many slots you could add for close combat weapons, bows and shields ( i'd say 5 each).
    This would give the game more balance and much more satisfaction when obtaining a new weapon.

    I wouldn't say Zelda was a "damsel in distress" in BotW. While she is saved by Link in cutscenes, after Link fell in battle she took control of the situation by issuing orders, taking the Master Sword to the forest personally, and then going head to head with Calamity Gannon successfully sealing him for 100 years. I think her being more active could be fun if kept somewhat realistic (not fighting like a knight for example).

    The too sandbox and not enough story worries kinda get me.
    I think everything we've been shown at this point points to two things.
    One, this is going to be a VERY narrative driven game.
    Two, the "sand-box" elements we've seen are literally just them including stuff they saw people having fun with in BotW by creatively combining mechanics or abusing glitches.
    I'm very much of the opinion that we're seeing the tip of the iceberg here. They've kinda gone out of their way to not show us close up shots of anything new. We're almost always zoomed way out or the camera is positioned so that we can't see much beyond Link and what he may be currently focused on.

    I guess my biggest worry is another potential delay. With the lack of any kind of push for this game just seems strange to me. Zelda is by far Nintendo's biggest franchise along with Mario. Just seems a bit odd the lack of attention Nintendo is giving towards what is considered their biggest release of the year. My concern is the possibility of Nintendo pushing the game to a fall release so they are able to do a proper push for the game. Just seems like with everything Nintendo has going on right now with the Mario Bros movie etc etc it is taking the spotlight away from their biggest release of the year. I will feel a lot better about the situation once the game goes gold and we know for sure that the game will release on May 12th.

    I do hope that we do get dungeons; traditional or otherwise.
    Brittle weapons should go and be replaced with a wear and tear system like most RPGs have, with which you can repair items. I hope the teased crafting mechanic solves this. It seems quite free-flow, and repairs should be part of it.

If there were particular items that you liked to get, you could just go after them 1st. They would all be something useful for the game in general. Also 1 idea I had was maybe instead of items it could be new abilities for the arm. Finishing a dungeons gives you a particular ability, which opens new areas to you or makes it easier to adventure in general

    I don't think I will ever understand how people still think Zelda is a "Damsell in Distress". While yes, there are points in the story where she does get captured, she plays a way bigger part to the plot than let's say Princess Peach does in Mario Games.
    Twilight Princess? She surrenders to Zant because he was gonna murder everyone in the kingdom! And later on she seals herself so Midna didn't have to die.
    Link to the Past? Okay yeah this is a game I can agree on but not only was this from a different time but she wasn't useless, she had the knowledge to contact Link via telepathy and ask him to help her. If not for her doing that, it's likely Ganon would have gotten his way. Yes she did get captured a 2nd time BUT she and the other sages did also break the seal on Ganon's tower so she clearly was important.
    Wind Waker? She literally went to the Forsaken Fortress and faced Ganondorf directly. Yes it was kinda silly to try that but at least she didn't hide away like a coward. And yeah she did get captured a 2nd time like in A Link to the Past BUT again she was needed in the final battle so again, not a mere damsell-in-distress.
    I could go on with Skyward Sword, Ocarina of Time, and Breath of the Wild but I think I've made my point.

    I remember when I wen insane when I got !y first video console, a wood grained 2600. I say that because I've seen every new Zelda game since 1987. My point is that I'd love to see a Zelda game focused entirely on Zelda saving Link.

    my main concern about TOTK is the combat system
    the combat system really sucks in BOTW and if they keep it in TOTK it'll be a huge problem

    So to discover flying and vehicles are a thing, thats just amazing.

    Oh, how about the malice affecting your arm can be contained by the hand, but it still tries to corrupt every weapon you pick up? Something that can only be countered by (presumably) Zonai magic, the same way the hand held Ganondorf in check?
    Or the Zonai-based weapons don't break because they are ~advanced~.

    Let's say: I'm cauciously optimistic. I haven't watched the video yet but I thought I should document my opinion before. The recycled word is not concerning to me but the Vehicle crafting is just too much like Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts for me not to worry. But it's Zelda and the Main line games haven't dissappointed so far, so... keep up the hope.

    Hey Hyrule Gamer I noticed something (unrelated to this video) that I want to point out.
    Go to the Tabantha tower and look at the great fairy fountain. It sparkles in the same way that Hateno glows during the newest trailer. Also if you glide to the fountain you will see it sparkle a bunch more.
    I wonder if the fairy's magic may be protecting the town from malice. Thats just my opinion and thoughts, it could be nothing, but it could possibly be something. I just thought the comparison is nifty.

    I hope that the dungeons in totk are more like elden ring in their semi-linear, semi-open-world design. I like how you do have to take a direct path through the dungeon but it's not linear because you have a lot of choices of how to traverse the area, with branching paths and shortcuts

      I LOVE the linear dungeons and will be disappointed if they return and are a blend. The overworld being open is enough for me I want this game to be a merger of botw and classic zelda

      @@newjumpcityjosh9333 if you've gone through the haligtree in elden ring, you'll understand what I mean. The dungeons are very linear, but they have branching paths that can take you on another route to the same place. Elden ring uses combat rather than puzzles for its challenge but I think totk could use a mix of both

    My biggest worry is that you may be forced to do certain requirements before finishing the game like clearing every dungeon, reparing the master sword and so on. One of my favourite things in botw is that you could head to the final boss after the tutorial and finish the game of you're capable to. But now that there are seemingly 7 tears to collect and a master sword already in posession that you just have to repair, I'm afraid I have to do these kind of quests first. But even then I'm sure it'll be really fun so whatever I guess.

    • @elliotljungdell8700
      @elliotljungdell8700 Год назад +4

      I think the tears will be ways to upgrade the Master sword and that they make the boss fight easier. The same way defeating the devine beasts made the calamity Ganon boss fight easier

    • @derwalter866
      @derwalter866 Год назад +2

      I personally hope the game reintroduces some aspects of linearity that the previous games had, so that would be great imo. I don't understand the appeal making the main story optional. I feel like there should be at least some things the player has to have accomplished to be considered to have "beaten the game".

    • @stpidstuff
