I generally run either a 50cc with a 20" bar, or a 70cc with a 28" bar. The only time I really prefer the smaller saw is when I'm packing it on my shoulder any distance, or I end doing a bunch of work much above waist hight. Other than that, I find the bigger saw/ bar is almost always more efficient and easyer on the back.
Yeah, re: PPE, I had almost the exact same mishap as your young story, except I got a 2 inch scar now on my left leg. Very fortunate those little mishaps are not worse. Thanks for sharing your stories!
Hello David, How are ya, it's been awhile. I love watching you rip through the firewood. I pray all the Family is well. David and Kelsie , I love ya guys ❤ Be safe God bless ya , Love Wins.
Thanks for the comparison David. Seems to be almost twice a quick, which make sense with almost twice the CC's. I guess its just a balance between weight and speed. Man if every log ended up in the air I could buck all day. Its bending over so much that gets my back sore. Cheers from Manson, WA.
David, I have never bought a brand new saw before and I’m looking into getting a 70cc ish saw. I’m looking at the new 372xtorque and the sthil 462 with the regular adjustable carburetor. I’ll probably run a 28inch bar. I’m used to running my grandpas 25+ year old husky 51 that’s still getting the job done but I’d like a bigger firewood saw that I can have around for the next 25-30 years. What saw would you suggest out of the two or maybe even something different? Thanks.
@@MountainWild66 you know I can’t honestly speak to that because I’ve only ran the xtorque and not the older 372. I will say I wasn’t too impressed with it. The 572 is a screamer when it runs right… but the adjustable carb saws are the way to go!
Those are the perfect size rounds and that is a lot of tree. That should make a lot of wood fast. In 45 years of cutting wood I have mainly used 50cc saws with 16" bars because they are light and cut well. I don't cut much that I need more than 16" I did have a Jonsered 910 for some time and I loved that saw. I am much older now and have an Echo 501-P and 590 Timberwolf. I like both. I don't wear anything but safety glasses except in the winter. I cut for pleasure and a fireplace and wood furnace. I cut a little every day. Mostly hickory. For most people, a 50cc pro saw with 16" bar is all you will need. Pro saws run stronger than homeowner saws and last longer
Thanks for another great video. I am on the lookout for a smaller saw for my uncle still, he likes the stihl 311 and I was just curious about your 550. I am like you I like bigger saws with longer bars. I also am not a big fan of wearing chaps and like you I have only knicked my pants once. I am not saying that it wont happen but it does get super hot with them on.Stay safe out there brother!
Dig your videos, I run echos, have a 40, 62 and a 73 cc saws. Different tools for different jobs. Also have a little battery one hander if I'm up a tree or on a ladder.
Agreed, being safe is the biggest part of working with wood. I dont push my way of not having the gear ether. I definitely encourage its use to people with little experience. Or definitely working in a log deck. . Ive known more people to get harm, or sadly loss of life. from the red alder then most anything else.
Bigger saws are not faster unless the wood and the bar get bigger. Put 23rsp on the little guy and drop the rakers and it will smoke the 395 in that wood until you get aggressive on the chain on the 395, put a big rim on it…
I run battery saws; and yes; my EGO CSX5000 with a 24" bar with a full chisel skip cuts faster than my 20" CS2000 with a full chisel full comp chain. But I still like my 2000 for SOME things.
Have you noticed much difference between saws anti vibe performance? I’ve never thought much about it but now that I’m getting closer to 40 I’m thinking about wear and tear on the body.
All your comments are great but don’t tell my brother in law that. Almost cut his foot off last week. 8 weeks before he can even try to walk again and will always have to ware a brace
I keep checking nearly daily for a new video, your videos are very soothing to watch. Hope you and the family are doing well!
@@NorthSwing we are well! Thanks for checking on us we hope to have videos out soon just super busy with work, family life and sports

I like that you keep things simple and make wood.
Some folks complicate things trying to reinvent the wheel

Looks like a nice day to be out cutting. It’s a noticeable difference between the 2 but I’d say pound for pound the 550 did a heck of a job.
You do you David. I feel naked running the saws without chaps.
See you in about 1 more month😉👍
Yes sir we are excited!

@@MountainWild66 I would go with the stihl 462! Or look at pawn shops for a stihl 461 or husky 372 (none Xtorque) that’s in great condition…
@@MountainWild66 but for sure the 462 out of those two… 28” is perfect for firewood unless you are taller then a 32” is nice to have…
@@mountainlifewithdavidkelsie thanks for the reply! Any particular reason why you prefer the original 372 over the x torque?

That 50cc cuts very well. Thanks for the comparison.

I'm older and run 359 and 266 the bigger saws are a good choice if you are younger and have the stamina that is the way to go.
Congrats on scoring a MS440 - looking forward to seeing a vid of it running 👍👍

David, the ONLY safety thing that I’m going to say is this: PLEASE don’t let those kids run a top handle saw. 😊
Never I don’t even own one
Those 550’s are great little saws.

These big saws are so much faster that it makes cutting wood fun, and you get a lot of wood done quicker
Hey cuz I run a 550, good little saw, lots of pep for its size, good for anyone with limitations in the back!
They are good little saws
You probably been asked this before but what camera do you use?
Hope you guys are doing well haven't seen any post in a while.

I feel it haha 😂
Im moving to a place with a wood stove and only a kereosene heater is the only other heat. Need to get me a good saw
261cm
Hope yall are doing well!
All is well my friend thanks for asking hope life is treating you well we been busy working and planning our wedding

Hardwood kicks back more than softwood. I run my rakers lower in softwood than in hardwood.
Learn by your mistakes... as long as it doesn't cost you your life. Then it doesn't matter.

The husky’s have less than stihl I do know that and the new 5 series husky’s are super smooth
1 second difference
What happened to you guys. I hope all is well at your house..
