I've been a few years since picking up my very first Behringer synthesizer. They have grown to a total of Behringer synths in my current setup and I'm considering other Behringer units in the future.
This video goes into my Behringer synthesizer journey while sharing clips of videos made over the last 2 years which various synthesizers from this setup. I'm really enjoying what Behringer is bringing to my studio and hope you enjoy the video.
awesome. behringer are so cool for bringing these analog sound design possibilities to people without trust funds
Thank you for watching !
You're right, they are the coolest 😎
I have a trust fund and I still need to buy Behringer to get a proper selection of synths
Behringer is crazy dope❗ The price for the quality is astonishing.
@@Leo9ine 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The neutron has great utility as a controller for another synth. If you do not use the patchbay in your sounds you have a free s&h, slew and a sort of mixer with sum1 and sum2 available. Those things would cost as much as a neutron unit if you would purchase them as separate modules.
Great content, thank you! I’ve spent so much money on expensive synths and eurorack stuff, ran into heavy financial problems and had to sell most of my gear. Now I can go back to the synth world thanks to these wonderfully affordable and amazing synths! I think what Behringer is doing is something really democratic in some ways.
Your music sounds completely different to what i imagined it would be. I was expecting maybe trap, grimey hip hop or deep house or something, butinstead you hit me with some cool dark-wave electo-industrial cinematic soundscapes. Your jam around 10 mins here reminds me a lot of a slightly cleaner take on german act Wumpscut. Nice!!!!
Many of my influences come from that genre and the bands of that era. I do have other influences mixed in like you stated. Glad you enjoyed it and have a amazing day
Is that like OK??
Behringer has been the butt of jokes for over 2 decades.. sad to say. I'm glad that they have found their niche and have been so successful at creating an easy entry point into the hobby.
They are killing it
Todd I'm with you all the way. Behringer is by far the company to beat. All these haters really need to get a grip. Finally us little guys have a company looking out for us. I love all of my Behringer gear. Oh and really good grooves bro. Holla at cha later. Stay blessed 🙌
I love all these companies but Behringer is filling my niche for sure.
I want to buy a synth, but they have so many great stnths.. Really hard to decide. I think Crave. Or total modular, but that’s a bit too expensive.
Would love to know how it all connects and sequences? I have crave, RD8, Juno boutique and use the keystep as a brain
Good to hear some music from you, my journey restarted with the DM12 and now i have crave, Model D, Neutron , RD8. Crave feeds into the Model D via ext input and doubles up in the 24Db filter nicely. Added a Matrixbrute to my setup and looking for a great poly digital that can give some horizon wide layer beside the SY85 rompler. Not a pro here but very much enjoy a retake of my 80s youth memories in Behringer stuff, back then it was juno106, DX7, Korg Wavestation, ensoniq, TR606 , TB303,AtariST... all sold when got kids instead ; ) I have no regrets because today's synths are so creative and affordable.
Thank you ! Glad you enjoyed the music. Thanks for sharing the synth story and I agree with what you said at the end
Holy sh*t that jam with the 3 Behringers sounded so fat, very cool!
I only own an XR18 mixer from the company and feel bad about their tactics, but these synths deliver the sounds for sure.
What tactics though? Utilizing patents that have run out? Breaking monopolys? Creating competition?
@@coinopboy2289 I would rather not hijack a good video for a bad conversation. Let's just say I value other companies more and do not mind saving up a little bit longer.
thanks Todd..Are there any Moog/classic synth snobs still yapping and upset because they paid $5,558,885,858,588,585,885,858,585,858,585,588,855 and we can spend $500 or less?
Facts , lol
Hello great video how do I control the synth with an iPad ?
Neutron does some fun stuff when you start patching the LFO and S&H through the sum and multi outs to mess with everything. trigger it out of the drum machine and you get rhythmic dirty randomness. I'm still learning but I'm having a good time with it.
It's a fun machine !
Such a helpful vid… old or not! Thanks!!
How are you using your iPads together, exactly? 😊
In these videos one runs Korg Gadget and acts like a groovebox and the other runs DAW for multitrack recording. I use Auria Pro for just audio.
how do you program your td3? i find the inbuilt sequencing incredibly hard.
The built in sequencing for TD isn’t user friendly. It’s a direct clone of the OG 303 which was known as not friendly to work with but that kinda gave birth the the simple acid style sequences that made the machine. That all being said, I never use the internal recording options. I tend to use a external sequencer. Right now I use the MC-707.
Todd, you make your Minimoog sound so phat, I think it needs an appoinment with the weight loss surgeon! I'm with you with the Pro1, you would think it would be a little like duplicating the Mini, with both being analog subtractive, but their sound is quite different and they complement each other.
I like your music and the sound of these synths. Thanks for sharing.
Would love to know how it all connects and sequences? I have crave, RD8, Juno boutique and use the keystep as a brain
In this video I used Korg Gadget in most cases and midi. Right now I'm using the MC-707 as my sequencer in the studio
I have most of these as well and I’ve really been impressed overall. The Neutron is fantastic and is worth spending a few hours patching around because it can do a lot, especially with the updated firmware. The Proton is coming out soon and will be a great companion piece. Same with the Crave and the new Edge. You really can’t beat the price if you are in a budget and want to play with real analog hardware.
I love your music Todd! Nice and dark, with really good sequencing lines, drums etc. Subscribing.
Thanks man. Right now exploring the MC-707 as my main setup. My main goal is to combine the the iPad / 707 and hardware into monster long term
@@toddsmithmusic3172 I see, is that for a live rig or just studio use?
Nice one with the nu electro darkwave
Glad you enjoyed it
I am actually considering making this very same move to analog. It's been a while, and I have never really delved into modular (and have no real desire to), but this has been looking like a bit of a bridge to something I can't wait to pursue. Great tracks in this video, by the way! I like your writing style, it's very similar to my own. :) Anyway, thank you for this important walk-through of your developing acquaintance with these synths. They've helped me solidify my own decision to break into this area. My MC-707 is a lot of fun, but aside from my softsynth collection, I'm in need of something deeper. I think Behringer nailed it here!!! Thanks again! Great work! 😃
When you put the PRO 1 on i hear massive Reverb? What Reverb is that?
Fab Filter Pro R
I have a Model D and a DeepMind 12. The DM12 is nothing short of amazing!!
Subscribed Man...
I think to be honest Roland and Korg have had their day now.
Its time to roll over rover and let Behringer and Arturia take over....!
I like Roland and Korg. It’s nice to have new options tho.
@@toddsmithmusic3172 Don't get me wrong Roland is still predominantly on my table lol
My behringer story started much the same way, model d then neutron but as much as i wanted the pro1 or k2 i really wanted polyphony so i went with the deepmind12 and td3.
I have the MK, Blofeld and Ensoniqs for poly so I guess that's why I've focused on mono lately
True i guess we flip flopped there. I wanted an analogue poly(yes i know dm12 has dco's) first then got the esq1 to round out my collection. All while building a giant eurorack lol...thanks covid.
I did a Neutron and a Crave. They pair well and can be cross patched. I also needed a poly. I got a killer price on the DeepMind12. So those 3 synths make for a great mono and poly setup. Now all I want is a good drum machine. But with these 3 synths and my added laptop, I can do about anything. The Behringers sound good and are priced right.
@@jppagetoo get the rd6 when they finally get here...if you're into acid that is, otherwise wait for the firmware update and get the rd8 for something boomier. I have the older tr8 which i really like so like everyone else I'm waiting for that damn rd9.
why cant Behringer just make what everybody really wants and do the Roland Jupiter 8
Facts
I'm with you. Make a freaking Jupiter 8 and corner the entire market. I promise the rest of the companies would pretty much take a back seat to them. Even the haters would have get out of their way.
They`re on it ! ..
I`d love to see the obie Xpander myself ! fingers crossed !
Very nice video! I've the same virus with behringer modules. Today I still have a model-D and a pro-800 and next a Kobol and a TD3-MO. All are great and different.
Well done Todd...I too have a very positive experience from Behringer what with having a Deep Mind 12, Neutron and just got a TD-3MO... its crazy the sound I can have now...Staying positive, staying creative and PEACE!
Have a great day and thanks for watching !
I think that the quality and price of Behringer stuff are amazing, music and instruments must be affordable for all. Recently i buy my Pro-1 and have a Moog sub 37 on my workflow and Behringer quality are in a highest level
Totally agree!
Great overview.I have a deep affection for some of my cheapest gear. Korg's Monologue and Behringer's Neutron. I think I need a model D too.
Model d is very good
The Model D sounds CRUSHING
Is that your opinion of your favorite sounds?
I have the Model D, MS-1, Crave, TD-3 and could not be happier. The Crave really grabbed me....I am really digging that unit.
Crave is a solid piece fort price
I love how you can stick many together and roll them into one. Jointly functioning they really sing. Your sound is constantly travelling and the sweet spots are very apparent. Nice work man. &:53 you sound like a more synthesized Norman Greenbaum beyond fuzz
Thanks for the awesome words ! It means a lot.

still
Me too =)
I took the bait at 1:35 and dared to walk up to the white panel van to get a good listen. But 12:50 was the moment the sliding door suddenly opened and I was taken away, never to be seen again. LOL. Dude, thank you for this showcase. I have this equipment already, but it’s always nice to see what somebody else can do with it...and what you did with it is magnificent.
LOL. This video was playing in the background while I was working and two sections caught my attention. I stopped work to comment....when I saw the comment above that I left 2 years ago. Still applicable! Two years later and I still love my Behringer monosynths!
i`m loving what Behringer are doing with these synths ! ..just wish i had them 30 years ago ! great vid btw ! peace bro !
Why having them 30 years ago when you can have them now?
@@quinxx12 Because i`m 30 years older now .. (too old)... back then there was only the original gear (no clones) .. my point is i would of loved to had access to these cheap clones back then ...
30 years ago half of these synths would have been affordable. Hell! Even 15-20 years ago many of them were still affordable.
@@sacredgeometry Anything is affordable if you have enough spare cash ! 🙂 i sadly didn`t 30 years ago and even back then stuff was getting pricey , mostly down to the U.K. dance scene that was emerging in the late 80`s early 90`s ... gear literally quadrupled in price overnight ... i did drop on a 303 for £100 though ..sold it for £1000 4 weeks later !..
@@2000stephenellis I mean yeah but a lot of these synths were far more affordable new and many of them came out around 30+ years ago.
I mean a TB-303 was £238 (about a £800) when released now its £3000+ second hand.
Both of the inflationary cost and the second hand market cost is insane for what it is in todays context. Behringers price is perfect.
Brilliant reviews, really helpful 👌
Glad it was helpful!
industrial 303 jam near the end is rad! I only have the RD-8. i love it, so much fun and sounds great.....but sadly the main out is already failing and it will randomly drop in volume until i mess with it.
It's failing ? Still under warranty ?
@@toddsmithmusic3172 its a loose connection and it will disconnect randomly. im hoping its just something i can resolder. i dont think its under warranty.i never registered it when i got it. its the ONE piece I didnt order through Sweetwater......oops.
@@earthhuman5448 That's kind of my fear with behringer, if the instruments hold out over time... Having zero sdiy skills.... But the new 2600 is too strong a temptation
A really great and honest video. I wholly agree (and was a synth design/programmer professionally for almost 20 years), that what Behringer are doing is remarkable
Did he just say osc-k-I’llator @ 3:18 ?
Yea broskies , crazy huh !
I came here to say this^

Great sounds! Nice to see a synth demo that doesn't recreate played to death songs or sound like a video game!
I love my crave. Can’t wait to see what you come up with.
Crave id very fun
I start searching for my first modular synthesizer, so what type synth (behringer) is good for me ?
I really noob for this
Todd you're kicking ass and taking names. Keep these awesome videos coming. Promoting the synthesizer of US little people. How cool is that. A great sounding synthesizer for us, the little people. I love it and your cool grooves too.
This was great. Keep on evolving!
Thanks! Will do!
This is the video i needed to give myself the reason to go for a behringer drum machine
Keep it up, nice channel
Thank yoU !
Awesome stuff, I enjoy your jams, keep pumping out the music!
Thanks, will do!
Kinda non related to the video theme, but thanks so much for showing gadget as a sequencer 👏👏.
I’d kinda fell outta love with gadget, but you just gave it a new lease of life for me 👍
Gadget is a powerhouse. Waaay under the radar. It needs updates but still strong as is today
If Korg had opened it to auv3 I wouldn’t have left it behind.
@@TheSemtexCow I think it stands for itself as "groovebox" with hardware but understand your view. Alone I feel it's still better than most on iOS in terms of what talked about above
Honestly, I’d have never had got started on my musical journey Gadget and how easy it is to use. It’s a shame Korg keep increasing prices for the add on synths, that was the end of gadget for me. I’m sure I could have done much more with it. Thanks for the inspiration to try this out 👍.
Nice video Todd. Nice sounds and nicely presented. I think for the money we get a lot from Behringer! I have the VC340 and its awesome... wish it had a nicer keybed and 4 octaves but it is amazing.. surprised by how nice the Neutron sounds...
Glad you enjoyed the video, I like the Neutron a lot
Behringer.....hmmm... know i Behringer? Oh yes...my studio is full of them because the price and the sounds.
I like them .. sometimes .. =)
The "c" in oscillator is silent.
=)
8:40 Sounds like a guitar.
Thanks for watching!
I've just bought a TD-3 & Crave. Those Synths are limited but it feels so good to use an analog synth with knobs/switches and a patch bay rather than having a mouse in my hands.
Looking forward to the Neutron next 🙂
Did you end up getting the Neutron? I have a Crave and I'm wanting to add another synth, but not sure which one to go with.
@@BrentODell Yes, I did 😁
Love your style of play
Means a lot. Thanks
I like your setup, and the cool jams.
Good demonstration of what these New Behringer synths can do.
I have two Neutrons and a Moog Subharmonicon, in a home made 3 teir rack.
Can sequence with the iPad apps, a Korg SQ-1, a MicroFreak or from the Subharmonicon.
So much synth goodness for such a reasonable price.
Fun stuff :-)
Thank you for watching !
Can you make a vid how to sequence them with iPad?
I can try to touch on that topic in the near future.
@@toddsmithmusic3172 thanks still trying to work my moms old iPad into my setup
i think i mentioned recently on another video, i've been developing synths for a good long wile, because i believe it contributes to a potentiated, capable populace. i think i was somewhat disparaging the featureset on the other item, but here as an overview, it is immensely satisfying to me to see behringer making all of this available. all of these analog synths have a lower pricetag than one virtual analog ran in the mid 90s. thanks for sharing your story, i'm real happy to hear that it's been a pleasant one for you.
I have to get the Edge. Not going to get a DFAM when Edge has MIDI and USB. One of fav hardware synths is the Waldorf Rocket. Using that as a 303 or for riser fx types sounds and basslines. Or just using the awesome filter. If I'm getting hardware over software then it has to do something special to be worth it otherwise I'm just going to use software stuff for basic sounds.
Great jams. Excellent joice of Behringer synths work really well.
What effects are you using?
The tune around 12:40 is incredible! What drums did you use?
Whats that ipad sequencer app?
KOrg gadget
Hi Todd, nice video. Yeah my story is pretty similar than yours. Loving these behringer monos. Looking forwards to the solina whenever it happens
Can't wait! We live in good times for synths
curious now that you have had a few months to learn the crave and td3 as to which you would consider easiest to use for a synth novice. asking as I am looking to make my first purchase.
To just give a random advice a month too late: If you don't own a controller with keys, you would have to get that as well. Both these synths are great in their own right, but to understand synthesizers probably not the most suitable. Maybe a MS101? They are pretty cheap these days, and the options are layed out so it's easier to learn how envelopes, lfo's etc work. They have a keyboard, so you can hook up multiple synths without a keyboard to this later. The best sounding Behringer in my opinion and great to understand would be the Model D. But you would need a separate keyboard as well to control it. Remember: All of these only do one note at a time. If you want more, you're already looking at more expensive options like the Deepmind
everything sounds like it has echo. Do these synths have delay modules built in?
Hey Todd, great vid. I'm just starting to build my synths (for fun) and I've a Crave, a K2 a Roland TB3 and a few others. I was wondering how you've set yours up with the Focusrite and a mixer. its really interesting learning how other peeps set their systems up. Cheers
I run my mixer into my Focusrite. It gives me a lot of tracks between the focusrite and mixer at a decent price
i have almost the same behringer synth squadron. they all have the mojo of the orginial, my favourite is the pro one. the vintage freaks will hate B. forever but im actually glad i sold my minimoog and others.
Really? Why did you choose to replace your Minimoog with Behringer? I’m very new to this, and I’m just looking for understanding
Love the sounds of these synths and also the music you do with these cool Behringers’ boxes :)
Glad you like them!
had to turn the volume up -- awesome ruclips.net/video/6ab6g3DG5VI/видео.html
I was wondering about the ipad's and the software used etc?
I'm with you. I using Behringer Truth monitors and powered subwoofer, Deepmind 12, Model D, RD-8, (RD-6 and 2600 BV on order), mixer, and FX Virtualizer. It all works great and I'm not going broke.
Thanks for sharing
now for me my first hardware synth was the td3 in yellow with acid smiley.. i loved how it souded but my only gripe is how gross and cheap its plastic feels especially for the knobs i bought it cause i wanted an acid box. now i still love the sounds it makes but the knobs and buttons make me not want to touch it. my second was the Neutron and this thing is my baby! i admit i havent patched nearly as much as i should have.. but i bloody love it! its construction.. the materials its made of it feel real and not like a todler toy like the td3. the sounds it makes blow my mind sometimes. my only issue with the Neutron was that i couldnt get it to sound with midi from my YPT-210 keyboard.. so i though i need something that can sound itself.. in came the crave! i love that i can program a jam into it and i love its feel and sound, one of the most amazing parts for me though is that i can put it in my laptop bag and take it out with me! i tried a pocket operator next and ill be honest i hate it.. i then recently bought a korg volca percusion for drums.. but it feels too fiddly.. i just bought a Behringer K-2 im awaiting the delivery on that and seriously cant wait to throw it in my 3 tier rack with my Neutron! ill either get the Pro-1 OR build the last slot in the rack out as a complete modular zone next. i actually love behringer gear so much.
Thank you for sharing your experience and story. The support and interaction means a lot. Stay safe !
Do you hook your synths up to a midi keyboard
Yes my friend.
Yeah, mostly the same here. I KNOW all that old synth very sure - but never can buy them - every year, they get more expensive. and with the Behringer Synths - i CAN make the music, ive ever wanted to do. So ill buy it - and try it. And as many Owners of the original hardware said: it sounds nearly the same - thats all i need.
Hello! Noob question : what’s the app you are using for midi control on pad ?
Korg Gadget
Behringer where great when they where cloning old gear that is out of people price range but once they built the model of no R&D costs just clone what others have done and turned that on new gear its not a good thing. The end result is no new gear, there is no justification in spending money to develop something when Behringer will just buy one and then clone it. It means Electo music stops here today. This is why the view of Behringer has changed and become very negative.
Most of the comments are positive =P
I like the rack. I am struggling for space, so. Maybe that’s a better approach.
It can save space
What kind of drum synth are you using mate??
Are u using one iPad as the master sequencer / controller, and then recording audio is on the other iPad? I can't decide if using two computers and/or iPads (or iMac & iPad) is worth the complication over using a single device for everything. No question I'd maximize the capacity and performance using multiples, but I'm afraid that I have a habbit of focusing on that which ultimatley is bad for me because the added complexity results in more time wasted sync'ing stuff, moving files, etc and then less music being made (and more of the time spent is time doing the utility types of actions, not the composing and jamming I enjoy so much)
What app are you using to record into it?
Auria Pro
Does anyone have any good reading recommendations for someone trying to learn about how to use Synths? Complete newbie here.
nike says:just do it..... behringer td3

Thanks so much for your videos. Is there a default midi setting on the neutron. I want to have it on midi channel 4
You can change the midi channel via the little numbered switches on back. Look up the manual for info on how those numbers work. I’m not sure what channel the Neutron starts at but looking up that info and checking the back will tell you what the current midi channel is set too
holy crap your music sounds great
Glad you enjoy it !
The crave is the most reliable. The d has tuning problems but is also very good. The other stuff with keyboards attached…not so much 👽
Great video. I just started my own Behringer journey this week.
I bought an Octave Cat back in '06 when they were still affordable. But my car died while the Cat was still shipping, so I had to turn around and sell it immediately. Been wanting to replace it ever since, and I just did with Behringer's version. I'm having lots of fun with it. I'm considering a few more from them down the road.
