When mother taught me how to make corn bread dressing, she said to judge the amount of moisture, after adding the broth, lightly press the back of a spoon down on top....if liquid seeps into the spoon, it is enough, it it doesn't, then add a little more broth...worked for me for the last 65 years...
We always boiled and chopped the gizzards/liver/neck fine and added it to our dressing. Chopped up fine no one notices it and it adds more vitamins, minerals and extra protein.
Thanks! That’s a great idea! I didn’t know what to do with them. My son in law likes the chicken livers from KFC, but he doesn’t get them very often. He might like that.
@@TalesFromAnEmptyNest well we didn't have liver or anything at other times of the year. Only during turkey time. My mom cut them chunkier and as a child sometimes I picked them out. But I know it's healthy and also grew up not liking to waste food so I dice them small or use food processor and no one ever notices it's in there. And the meat on the neck is just like the other chicken meat, comes off in shreds
I butter my turkey the same way, I wrap it up tight, I place it in the pan, I add 1/4 inch of hot water into the pan, I place in a 500-degree oven, a 30lb bird will be ready in approximately 3 hours, And the meat will never, ever be dry, it's infused with the liquids, and fats from butter, I take the foil off the top of the bird Turn the over down to 350 to brown and crisp the skin, I am Scottish, trained as a chef, and have made my turkey this way for over 40 years, never fails. Happy Thanksgiving 💖
@midlifemom5829 butter the turkey the same as in the video, wrap the turkey in foil, put 1/4" water in turkey pan, place turkey in 500 degree oven, open and baste bird, ever hour and check temperature, cooked at 165 F, it's going to cook fast, best turkey ever, especially leftovers will not be dry.
Your video of you pulling out the turkey neck made me laugh so hard. Why? Cuz it brought back a funny memory. I'm gunna tell you and it is ok to laugh. I'm 63 years old and I still laugh at it. When I was young, a younger teenager, I was with my stepmom at the grocery store. And when I saw turkey necks packaged up for sale, I think I said something like how gross those were. My step mom, Jan, asked what I thought they were, and I didn't want to say, so I kinda whispered it. I said it was the turkey (pecker), ya know, his thing. Lol OMG, Did my stepmom laugh so hard, ad did another lady who overheard what I said ....... So funny. Such a funny memory. Thanks
For sure saving this video! So many goodies to use, even though Canadian Thanksgiving passed. No problem in making Thanksgiving dinner meals for a scrumptious meal anytime! Awesome work!
I love your sense of humor, "I am burning the rest of my fingerprints off, the 2 I had left the potatoes took!" 😂😂😂Thanks for sharing your wonderful recipes and your wonderful personality with us! I have never added green chilis to my corn casserole, but I have added diced jalapenos because my son-in-law loves jalapenos. It is really good!
I love your channel. I only found it about a week or two ago. I'm going to retire in January, so I can't wait to start doing some of the same things you do. So good, you tell about that bag in the turkey. Lol, no one told me, and my first turkey was cooked with the bag inside ... Lol
Thank you so much! Congrats on your retirement! I still work full time, and retirement is still a little ways off for me, but I’m definitely looking forward to it!!
Dear I make my Thanksgiving the same way my grandmother did I make the dressing the potato salad The only thing I don't make that she used to make was pumpkin pie I buy that I'm too afraid to make a pumpkin pie I'm going to have to get up the guts and make one it scares me on that cuz my grandmother could make a pumpkin pie that would melt in your mouth there was me and another cousin of mine out of the whole entire family and she had six kids and a whole bunch of grandkids that she would fix Thanksgiving Christmas and the orange one she fixed pumpkin pie for for the longest time was me and that and God lover she would make two custards for my grandfather two custards pies for an Uncle by marriage she would make two buttermilk pies for my uncle her son she would make two chocolate pies and for me she would make two pumpkins and like I said for the longest time it was just my pumpkin until an uncle of mine her middle son his wife had a son that loved pumpkin and I didn't know it in one year he looked at me and he said I bet you I get the last piece and I looked at him and I was dead serious I said you want a bit he didn't get it I did lol
Hey Tammy! Thanks for sharing these diffently will be making a few of these ideas. I can't wait to try the brown rice recipe, think I'll make it tomorrow to go along with pork chops. I make my loaded potato casserole and dressing the same way!😋 😋 I think I'll be making little pies this year. Thanks again for sharing 😊 😊.
That brown rice is soooo good! We have it every year for the holidays and I also just randomly make it sometimes because it’s so good! The kids love the little desserts😁😁
@TalesFromAnEmptyNest My grandmother could really cook she's gone now her and my grandfather both they both passed away in 2001 3 days apart but I know they're with one another You have a Happy Thanksgiving dear and God bless you and your family
I love these recipes and look forward to incorporating them into our Thanksgiving this year! Some other favorite pies of ours are cherry and blueberry. If you want to kick the cherry up a notch, I add a teaspoon of almond flavoring. It's the only way I do cherry pies and crisp now.Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!😊❤
@TalesFromAnEmptyNest I love when I can connect with a home cook🥰 I love to cook. But I'm too shy to post a video lol. Looking forward to more videos 😍
Fascinating video! We hear so much about Thanksgiving here in the UK and it was genuinely interesting to see exactly what our US cousins make / eat to celebrate it. I personally couldn’t do do that “cream of” soup to save my life (🤢) and the orange cheese was just…🫣 to me. Evaporated milk…yeah, we use that in puddings, far too sweet for anything savoury. But then I saw the sweet potato casserole and realised that we really are on different planets so far as food is concerned! Nevertheless, I loved watching this and I hope that everyone on your side of the pond thoroughly enjoys their Thanksgiving feast, whatever it may comprise.
Thank you! I’m always interested in how different countries do things as well. Lots of our cheese is yellow/orange here. Evaporated milk is not sweet here either. Our condensed milk is sweet, but the evaporated is not. It is only milk that has been cooked down with nothing added to it🙂
Cook on a simmer the neck, organs, and wing tips in sauce pan after sauteing onion, celery and carrots, garlic and poultry seasoning with water. Use this broth to make your gravy add some of the turkey drippings too.
I remember the first time i made a roast chicken i cooked it wrong side up. I asked my sister how she knew which side was up and she told me she grabbed it by the wings and danced with it. True story. Swear.
Thank you Tammy. I like you don't go for accuracy in my measurements except for salt and liquid LOL Way easier to add than try to fix it. 😅 Happy Thanksgiving
All of these dishes look so awesome! In answer to your question, we always add a small can of diced green chilies to our corn casserole and love the pop of flavor it adds to it! 😉

Do you deliver? This a great turkey video. I don't go to that much trouble so I need to step it up this year. 😅 I just had a dressing conversation with a friend from Washington state and they use white bread only. Ish! I want the cornbread. I want that mac and cheese definitely. Thanks for the recipes and happy Thanksgiving.

I cook the inerds with my turkey and then cut it up and put it in my gravy. It's good

Sometimes for my corn casserole, I use a can of southwestern corn that has the peppers in it. It's good. I just make it like you did for Thanksgiving.
Ohhh that sounds good!😁😁
I like to put nutmeg in my cheese sauce! I also put mild green chilis, green onion and cheese in my cornbread.

The giblets should be used in the Turkey Broth......Canned for later use!

That cornbread dressing & loaded twice baked potatoes look fantastic. I do not care for Turkey, so doing a ham this year.
I’m doing turkey and ham this year because we have folks who like one or the other. I figure I’ll do both and please the masses 😂
