I might have missed you saying it, but can all three of these be made with lactose free milk? In The Netherlands, we don’t have heavy cream, just whipping cream. Evaporated milk is used as “coffee milk” but never advertised as evaporated milk. You have now given me those missing ingredients for dozens of recipes I’ve not made for lack of those. Thank you!❤
Oh my goodness! Thank you so much for these recipes especially the heavy cream and sweetened condensed milk. This is going to further my journey to make as much at home as possible and leave as many things as possible at the grocery store. Thanks a million!
I love your homemade essentials video’s, especially this one using lactose free milk. When my father had cancer in ‘90 and could no longer tolerate milk, I got him some, and he found the taste not very appealing (to be polite about it, he could be very blunt 😂), so I’ve never tried it myself. But your video has opened a whole new world of dairy for me. Thanks! ❤
I agree with what your sweet daddy said…probably using the same language too lol! It definitely depends on the brand and also what you’re using it for. I’m not a fan of drinking it straight, but it’s fine when used in things😁
Actually, I don’t think that it is safe to home can dairy items, due to fats and density. I realize people do it, but it isn’t tested safe. If you want it for storage, you’re better of buying canned.
@@TalesFromAnEmptyNest ~Invest in the Precise Digital Canner it’s the next best thing to sliced bread..lol..I have many canners and had this digital canner been available first I would have never bought the other canners. The "chunky" bits at the bottom of the pan are over cooked ( scorched milk) burnt. as long as they dont go into your finished product it should be fine.
I don’t do any canning, so I can’t say for certain. I’ve heard you’re not supposed to can dairy, but again, I’m not a canner so I’m not sure. See if Google has an answer that might help🙂
I’ve never frozen it, so I checked google. It looks like you can freeze it, but it needs a little room to expand. It also may not freeze solid because of the high sugar content. Now we both know lol😁😁😁
@@TalesFromAnEmptyNest Awesome! I’m making my own french vanilla coffee creamer and it calls for sweetened condensed milk. Making it is much more cost effective than purchasing it in the can.
I hope you didn't throw the curds away! You can make farmer's cheese or queso fresco, even try to whip it into butter. There is NO waste when using milk, especially whole milk. Same with butter. I don't know if you make your own clarified butter, but if you skim while it's cooking down to clear, you'll end up with buttermilk. Every bit of milk is valuable. I'm really loving this channel. BTW, you don't have to use all of this up by the "sell by" date. First of all, milk is usually good well past that date, even regular milk, for up to a week, or more depending on the temp in your fridge. To know when to throw it out (or better yet, turn it into something else) just smell it. You can use sour milk to make several different things. Secondly, the products you are making will last well past the "sell by" date of the milk because you've heated it, likely to a temperature to have killed any lingering bacteria, so it's like a "start over" with the "gone bad" clock. Trust your nose.
Thanks for the info. I always do the sniff test in my house lol. However, I can’t tell other people to do that and then risk someone getting sick not paying attention. To be on the safe side, I will always say use by the date. Then people can actually decide if they want to push it farther😁😁
