Good info as always. I’m at 35 tanks and the point where heating the room makes sense. Looking at adding a ventless indoor blue flame heater.

Once again great info Jason. I'm in Melbourne Australia and plan to have my fish room in the old kitchen so I already have water in and out, I'm presently sealing up the windows with double insulation (Bubble-wrap). I have an oil heater for when it gets cold in winter and now it's summer the room only gets to approx 30 deg C which is great. Ill reuse some of the old benches for stands, the sink will stay there and remove the oven and hotplates. Then it's onto working out the air system as you suggest. I presently run 8 tanks in the living/dining room and want to set up maybe 10 in the old kitchen for Pleco breeding which is what I'm doing now but need a few more tanks. haha..

As always amazing information, will take the insulation tips are great. Then since I live in Florida I have to take in consideration the heat of the summer. Also another detail is reinforcing it for the hurricanes.

I have made "hot day lids" for the tanks on the main floor of my house. They are made out of eggcrate and will deter most jumping. Evaporative cooling keeps the tanks several degrees cooler than the air. I only have to run an air conditioner on the hottest days, not too many here in Minnesota. My regular lids are made out of twinwall greenhouse panel.

The heater only consumes the specified wattage when it is on. However the point remains, individual heaters are not cost efficient and are more susceptible to failure. Temp controllers can make them much more reliable but still more costs here.

My fish room is in the basement. It’s finished with knotty pine wood walls, drywall ceiling and tile over concrete floor. I heat the room and have to run a heater during the summer too. My electric bill is high but that’s the price I pay to have a fish room.

Why you need to heat ! If its a basement you will have almost one temp all year around

I’m in Maryland, I try to keep room temp at 74f. Without heater temp drops to mid 50s during winter, upper 60s to low 70s summer. I have lids on all tanks. Lights on tanks raise bottom row tanks to 76 while top row is at 78. This summer I’m hooking up a dehumidifier in place of heater and will be watching temps closely. It’s still a new and expanding fish which I hope will grow slowly through the years.
