In short, would it be explained this way ? -> The Back Button does exactly the same Front Button half way. Only one difference: once we release the back button, the focus point IS LOCKED, while the front button will refocus everytime we touch it again.
Well said
I also prefer front button focus. it's easy for me to setup the camera and get my family members to take my photo
Good point.
I still prefer back button focus. I got too used to it. Also, on my Canon the thumb naturally rests on the focus button so I don’t have to move it, just press
It’s hard to switch after doing it for so long.
I got my a6700. Quick question - When I want to take photos of birds, when I half press the shutter or back button I aquire focus on it but then if the distance changes generally the focus doesn't change to the bird/animal/person. Why is that? Do i have to keep tracking on for this if theres alot of movement with the subject ? Shouldnt the AF constantly be focusing on the subject ? In video it seems to keep tracking without me doing anything. Sorry I am an absolute beginner and overwhelmed with all the features on this camera!
in your case, you want continuous autofocus which is labeled as AF-C. if you have the on, then as you half press the button, it will keep autofocusing until you capture the image.
@@premreginald okay thank you for this information 👍 I was wondering if this can be kept on at all times without me clicking any button? Would that be the tracking feature? Where as I touch on the screen it tracks that subject
@@tanmaysakpalofficial I would believe so. on the AF-C mode of my a6400, it continuesly tracks without me having to click the shutter button to start it. However, I don't know how well the tracking works on long lens for birds. I use a manual focus 300mm for bird photography.
You also need to be close enough to the person or animal for it to track. Use AF-C and make sure you have human or animal eye AF for whatever you’re tracking.
Just came off a moving boat shooting pics left and right surely back button focus would not do
I think most people swear by back button focus. After making this video, I'm so used to using front shutter I'm having a hard time getting used to back button again.
@@Davidmccombs sorry meant I couldn’t do with back button focus
Shot recently on a catamaran on rough sea, no issues.
For street , shooting from the hip using screen flipped out , focus using shutter button is easier. :-)
I will have to try that.
