MR2 Commits Snap Oversteer

  • This is from a track day at Pikes Peak International Raceway last year. Had an absolute blast with the MR2, finding the limits of the car and my driving. I had to borrow my friend's drift spares which made it a lil spicy after a 4 or so laps.
    For those interested - the car had a Garrett GT2860, Full exhaust, Blitz Boost controller, BC Coils, and some other fun goodies. It performed great but could've benefited from some better rotors/pads. Definitely the most fun car i've had, i'll need to get yet another at some point.

    I snap oversteered on the freeway trying to avoid another driver texting and coming into my lane. The exact same thing happened and I thought that was it for me. I luckily skidded into the dirt and no damage at all to my car. That was quite an experience.

      Explain how this was whatever "snap oversteer" is even supposed to be lmao. Not only did this not happen that fast, but also it was pretty logical with the elevation change..

    • @samgome01
      @samgome01 Месяц назад

      @@miner4236 so snap oversteer happens after you overcorrect your car from a initial oversteer which in most cases is lift off but can almost be cause from over power or quick elevation changes. In the video right around the 29 second mark you can see the car sliding to the left, from there you can see the driver trying to counter steer the slide towards the right but the rear tyres caught traction somewhere in his attempt right after the 29 seconds ends and caused the car to whip quickly to the Right. From there the driver couldn't recover in time and span out of the track, all other videos I've seen don't replicate this scenario exactly it calls what is lift off oversteer as snap oversteer.

    ahh yes, the unintended drift

    • @batvette
      @batvette Год назад +7

      Drifting generally means power induced oversteer and of course its usually intentional. Snap oversteer is induced by too fast entry then lift off throttle at mid apex, which is your natural tendency. Hard to want to keep your foot in it when you dont think youll make the corner but thats what you gotta do.
      Its a myth that MR chassis is the best handling, at least for us common drivers on public roads. Professionals on a closed course okay. What they do better is change direction quickly, AKA snap oversteer.

    • @gfries4906
      @gfries4906 11 месяцев назад +2

      @@batvetteIt doesn’t matter the way a drift is induced. Using the handbrake, doing the scandi flick, or braking are all valid ways to drift.

    • @batvette
      @batvette 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@gfries4906 has zero relevence to snap oversteer. Drifting is inherently intentional, snap oversteer is not and youre not drifting because lifting off the throttle initiates it.
      As for your point sure there are multiple ways to start a drift but doing it with brakes of any kind just displays the stupidity of the act. Drifting doesnt get you around a racetrack any faster, its counterproductive.

    • @bolson42
      @bolson42 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@gfries4906
      It’s not really a drift until you extend it though. You can certainly drift with lift off oversteer, but if you don’t extend it with throttle you’re literally just sliding cuz you lost control. The guy in the video was clearly not using throttle at the end and was trying to regain grip, so he wasn’t drifting.
      Now, if you’re driving FWD then maybe it counts as drifting if you do lift off with no throttle to extend, but again that barely counts as drifting, and in that case it’s usually intentionally done to drift, and won’t happen accidentally like the MR2 is infamous for

    Try to keep your hands in the 9 and 3 o’clock positions as often as possible. Moving your hands to different positions on the steering wheel makes it harder for your brain to understand how much steering is actually being applied and when the car is starting to slide. You should only change the position of your hands if you need to apply more than 180 degrees of steering in either direction. During track driving that should only happen at an extremely severe hairpin or when the car has a huge oversteer moment.

You have to brake before or after the turn but until you’ve fully completed the turn you have to be progressively throttle thru the turn and rocket out of the end of the turn.
