Atlanta homelessness spikes again | FOX 5 News

- More people in Atlanta are living on the streets this year. The number of people facing homelessness in the city is on the rise, according to a January count just released by a nonprofit that leads the city's housing efforts. The 2024 Partners For Home point-in-time count found about 2,900 people living on the streets or in shelters. That's a seven percent spike from the previous year.

I talk to people who are employed but homeless..shelter is expensive
What's the problem?
People always judge me for giving the homeless money. They always say” they’re just gonna spend it on drugs and alcohol. “ I retort “ what do you think I was going to spend it on?”
For those who make some attempt at personal cleansing, homeless hygiene involves using a lot of alcohol--rubbing alcohol, that is.

As someone who is homeless right now in atlanta I can tell ya the number of homeless people here is skyrocketing.
It is skyrocketing here in Raleigh NC
Thats because millions of people have crossed the border and have no means of support or have livable wage jobs. Just like hundreds of thousands of Americans.
You are so right and the news is sanitizing the issue by not showing the real problem areas like Lennox exit. Someone actually said to me on 4th that Atlanta has no homeless problem as they were boarding their 1 mill boat on lake lanier.

It’s not even worth it to work anymore. I’m homeless in an old Toyota Sienna minivan in Los Angeles, after losing my housing twice during the pandemic, and couldn’t afford the sky rocketing rents. I work and I’m not a drug addict.

You have some people who have backgrounds that they can't get into regular communities because of certain things are in their background so there's many reasons for homelessness
Becauee the rents are too dammn high and they have oeople on that do not rent list because of an eviction. I know people who make really good money but cant get a place because of the do not rent list. So they sleep in hotels with their famlies. Get rid of that list and peiple can get a place
These point in time counts aren't getting atlantans off the streets 😢
When the landlord raises your rent by five hundred dollars per month and your company you work for cut's your hours bam you are homeless any questions 😮

A good number of people out on the street are mentally unstable, and they aren't getting the proper treatment that they need, and/so many of them "self medicate", with substances (drugs and alcohol)...😐

They are separate from the fact that alcohol is a drug, but it's in liquid form, as it has alcohol in it, which makes it separate from drugs.

Play the game it goes to the throne of a mental health issues addiction issues. Mental health treatment is for all of those people on the street because to be homeless is a trauma you have to address the mental health issues

How many of them are reaching out for resources for the help with their addictions to help get them stable how many of our regional for the things that make them sustainable in life to move ahead me and don't even take advantage of it
Here’s an idea instead of building Parks built housing shelters that are very basic, but livable and free like going to a park free

Better take a drive to Lennox exit to see the real homelessness. I'm pretty sure the waterway they are polluting with their sewer and waste gets used for drinking water somewhere downstream. If you can't find the exit just look for the shopping carts 30 ft in trees and in piles along exit.

No drug rehabilitation? No work training? More free housing, and more free money for what ever!

And then what? Where would they shower and eat food at? How can you get a job with no address or smelling dirty while carrying all of your belongings with you everywhere. And plus a job wouldn't bring you out of homelessness unless it's paying a liveable wage. 22.00/hr and up to make it in Atlanta.
