Listening to the unabridged audio version. An awesome book. I hear it was inspired by Apocalypse Now, and Heart of Darkness.

Dude I knew I wasn’t the only one who felt like it gave Apocalypse Now vibes lol. Such a good movie

Still remember that part in which Mace has a vision about the Yuuzhan Vong conquering Coruscant. Always loved the connections between the prequels and the post-ROTJ stuff

Great review! A solid book all around and while I like the new edition, it's too expensive for the asking price. I think I'll stick to the older mass paperback edition which is half the price.
PS It was pretty cool to briefly see Depa Bilaba in "The Bad Batch".

It is perhaps my favorite Legends novel. I bought it years ago when it was first published and have reread it many times. I'm looking forward to hearing the audio book now that it is available unabridged.

The best Clone Wars book and one of the best Star Wars books ever written. Matthew Stover is the greatest Star Wars writer along Timothy Zahn and James Luceno.

I was never a huge fan of Mace Windu (though I admit, I always loved his lightsaber) but I've been thinking about grabbing this at some point. I may have to do so after this review! I've been wanting to read some more prequel-era Legends material as I've mostly been focused on the OT and post-RotJ stuff.

I know there was a lot of debate over whether or not Mace truly beat Sidious in the Episode III duel. Reading Shatterpoint made me fairly certain Mace seriously could have ended the Sith if Anakin hadn't intervened.

surprised to hear you say you thought it was too much action, since many people who hate this books say "so boring, just Windu walking through the Jungle, no action, boring".
I love Shatterpoint, Stover was great and does even better with New Jedi Order: Traitor.

They probably didn’t get through the first half, which is what I really enjoyed.

I just finished reading it for the third time. I think Stover did a great job however I think the ending may have been a bit rushed. Maybe stover was on a deadline? But I love his prose

Nice, can't wait to hear your review of this. Watching... EDIT: Glad you enjoyed the overall book. The fact that it's based on Apocalypse Now makes it so much better. It's one of my favorite Clone Era and SW novels in general. It made me fall in love with the character I didn't care for in the films!

whenever you read a star wars book, do you have the voices of the characters in your head as you read along?

@@TheGeeksAttic Ha! Yeah same with me. Books in general I do that. Btw, idk If you've heard about the great news yet but we are getting more trade paperbacks of the rule of two, rogue squadron and the final two books of the thrawn trilogy! Covers look amazing!

Oh yeah. With every book, and if it's a book with no movie characters I'll just make up a voice. lol I've got an inner monologue anyway.

Which edition of "Shatterpoint" do you prefer, the old mass (2004) paperback edition or the newly re--printed one?

    • @TheGeeksAttic
      @TheGeeksAttic  3 года назад +3

      That’s a loaded question.
Design: Winner for me is the reprint.
Collectibility: if you already have all the legends books and don’t want duplicates why bother? If your looking to collect everything in the same format, stick with Mass Market, there’s been no word on whether or not the whole EU will be reprinted. But the books in my opinion look so good you may want to display them.
Ease of reading: the bigger sizes is pretty cool, and the spine doesn’t seem to want to crack when you open it up.
Shelf space: the reprints have really nice spines that look clean and consistent. They are also slightly thinner.
Price point: on a budget? Stick with mass market. I could be wrong, but if they published these and released one book a month, people would be more likely to collect all of them. It’s hard to spend so much money all at one time, people have monthly budgets.

@@TheGeeksAttic Thank you for taking the time to reply. All good suggestions! You convinced me... I'll buy the e-book...LOL!
PS On a more serious note, as someone else mentioned here, your Channel and the content here is seriously underrated! I see soo many good, solid content creators such as yourself that have excellent Channels for any given topic... aaaaand little recognition. Instead RUclips often promotes and supports content creators and Channels that are...well let's say dubious at best. Sadly given the times we live in... I can't say that I'm surprised...

@@TheGeeksAtticif they were to reprint ALL of the legends novels in that format, it would be very nice. But they won’t. I for one think the newer format is much more comfortable to read, it’s larger print, more flexible spine etc. but at $17 eh idk. I have a few myself.

This is so amazing I am losing my effing mind. I’m not even halfway through because I don’t want it to end. I only just read the book in 2016,.
I’m also constantly wondering why this one, why now. Of all of the options.
I hope they adapt more, specifically some of the Karen Tr- oh. Might not happen. Crap.
