- In this video, I take on the final boss with the help of Twitch chat. An epic fight with great presentation and mechanics that so far everyone seems to greatly enjoy. Nice job, Red Hook!

Reynauld! - Игры
As the camera panned from bottom to top of the monster, I thought the first enemy was going to be the balls of betrayal. Disappointed in Red Hook now lol
The Penises of Pestilence
Wtf Shuff I can't believe you would spoil the fact that the Snail of Stagnation was the final boss in the thumbnail you monster
How dare him
Nah, it's clearly Reynauld ascended stealing hope from the world
It's the immortal snail, the true final boss
Man I didn't expect for RedHook to commit so hard that Reynauld can klepto your trinkets and moves from you
Truly the crusadiest of all time
wait what time does reynauld show up? I don't have the time to watch the whole vid rn lmfao
@@mozz14378 I was actually memeing. I haven't watched it either bc I don't wanna spoil myself the end boss 😂

When face your failure happened I had a huge moment of nostalgia as I thought "is the move gonna happen" and then realized (or so I thought) that I had to choose a beloved hero to sacrifice.
I absolutely loved this boss and it's wonderful how far this game has come since 2021
I like it thematically because only the affected person can damage the spectre, the others can only assist with status effects
@@buntado6 no matter how much others try to help, only we can truly banish our demons
@@Fawful0...however support is always appreciated
i avoided spoilers since launch so going against the boss blind had me so nervous when that showed up
Pretty sure that the canonical reason for what happened to Reynauld was because of the last achievement from DD1... the one if you bring him and Dismas to the final boss.
Pretty sure given his text he sacrifices himself...
If thats the case, how is Dismas here?
From the beyond town event lol
@@DylanJo123 reynauld probably sacrificed himself to "come to your maker" to dismas give the last blow and leave the dungeon
From what I understand, and most of this is just a guess, but I think Reynauld and Dismas were there, but so was Josephine and one other mystery character... possibly Houndmaster/arbalest/musketeer, shieldbreaker, or BH.
It's hard to tell, but Josephine being there would explain a *lot* about why she defected.
Presumably at least one of the others would've had to get sacrificed, so it's unlikely that BH would've participated (it's technically possible to not have to sacrifice anyone, so they can get away with it, but it's unlikely to be canon)
Either way, it writes off 2 characters neatly and sensibly, but 3 characters are still unaccounted for.
Abom is accounted for in the academic's study, so perhaps the rest of them will be there as well? I hope they wrap up the rest of the stories, even if their ends were.... unfortunate
@@yeiltrasreality1627 how is Abom "accounted for" in the studies?
It’s hard when your two favorite characters are the Crusader and the Houndmaster… and Red Hook leaves BOTH of them out of the game!
Good news everyone! Reynauld is back and he’s even more of a klepto than ever.
Reynauld probably sacrificed himself against the final boss from DD1. But you bet thy gold he will crawl back from the dead and continue his kleptomaniac crusade.
I really like how Red Hook continues the tradition of the final boss being hard, but not stupid difficult, meaning that everyone can enjoy a satisfying ending.
Yeah, if I ever get through the Seething Sign of course...
@@MariaKryvohub rank 1 hellion is a good strategy with wicked hack and iron swan, you just need something to boost her damage.
@@MariaKryvohub I dispatched it with Malady Militia, you just need to have upgraded Acid Rain and Plague Grenade by the Mountain, so that Flag and PD (+ Vestal if needed) will be capable of dealing with the back lung easily whilst applying tick damage to the boss itself. The front lung can be removed with Leper most of the time.
What if vestal is actually holding hands with reynauld. And if red hook add him they change ending backround so we can see him❤
The goofy ah fake out got me and I won’t even lie. Nice touch, Red Hook
SPOILERS
The bounty hunter page next to vestal is a nice touch, how he’s always available and always watching. Also Reynauld’s helmet under the candles of beating a darkest dungeon, not Reynauld! No flag through. Maybe he hates socialising
And in each of us.The limitless emptiness...
Of a Darkest Dungeon.
isnt it canonical that Reynauld sacrificed himself at the ancestor? I'm pretty sure that was the implied reason as to why no crusader.
I think the boss, like the heart of darkness, was made kinda easy on purpose, because if you got there and just got destroyed it would kinda ruin both the moment and an eventual return. I do hope that they make it harder on subsequent runs as after the first time (which is one of the most awesome fights ever) I'd kinda rather have an actual challenge than an interactive cutscene but maybe I'm just underestimating it and will get my ass kicked repeatedly. Still, as it is right now is perfect for a first time through.
You are underestimating it. I got destroyed by it on my first 2 attempts and only won on the third one with a single survivor. (I went 0-1-2-2-2 with deaths on confession bosses)
@@YoshiTheyosh123 You're probably right, as a person with 400 hours my opinion is probably just a little bit skewed. What I probably actually want is more ways to increase the difficulty like the infernal flame but I sometimes forget that most people don't have that much time in the game. I'd still be curious to know if it was your first time playing through the game or had been playing since EA.
@umbertorossin5977 I stayed away from EA, only played since launch. Beat Cowardice about 50 hours in. I did get 414 hours in the first Darkest Dungeon, but the games are quite different. (Recovery options are now all conditional and limited or have cool downs, which makes battles of attrition like the Body of Work possible. DD1 Vestal and Jester would've taken a dump on a long, but low damage output fight).
@@YoshiTheyosh123 Yeah, recovery as a whole is the aspect that's been changed the most in the second and I understand that when going in blindly such a long battle can simply drain you if not prepared. I've changed my mind a bit about the boss and while I still don't think it's incredibly hard it's probably on par with the other bosses in terms of difficulty, with a focus on team versatility and sustain. The fight is still awesome and I'm sure that for people like me who have way too many hours in the game there will be ways to increase difficulty even further.
@umbertorossin5977 It sure didn't help I didn't even get a "Face your reflection" on my first attempt. I killed a cherubim, saw it spawn a new one with Samsara and decided that's a waste of time, so I just tried to hammer away at him instead.
It feels so wrong seeing Dismas without the facial covering
I think maybe Reynauld just gave up his helmet and being a Crusader? Since his biggest regret was leaving his family
(RedHookPleaseGiveUsReynauld)
If we do get Reynauld or another religious fighter, I hope it's gonna be a fire-themed class. We need more of those.
This guy took me 38 rounds since I had 2 characters with 1 skill that damaged their past. Ended up having to deal 400 damage but flagellant hard carried
Man I’m so glad I managed to finish dd1 before dd2 fully released, it made the final boss so much better
I absolutely REFUSE to believe the Reynauld is gone, I'll be totally crushed if he's not a returning character by the end of this.. He was hands down my favorite
No shot that red hook would allow a fan favorite to slip that easily, especially since we got Dismas back. Unless they explicitly state that Reynauld is gone, there’s always hope
Dlc return to the Manor, fight back the heart again with Reynauld
Yeah, I don't even want this game unless we get Reynauld back.
I wouldn't necessarily say that the Crusader is my favorite since the Bounty Hunter, Leper, Shield breaker, and Grave Robber are all great candidates, but he's definitely way up there with them!
My bet is that we gonna get Loathing Crusader
quite frankly all motivation i had to buy this game and play it when it came out was gone when i realised that there was in fact no reynauld. how could they do my boy so dirty...
Vestal got a wholesome ending. She is smiling and holding hands with someone.
I guess Raynauld is one of the two characters who canonically dies to kill the heart of darkness.
It was a slight missed opportunity to not show "Pity the fool who peers into the mind of God" unless I missed it
Forgot all about it tbh
@@ShuffleFM Yeah was a little sad to see that, it's such a cool detail to represent its influence
The final phase’s appearance reminds me of the way the hanged king is described in that scp story, a hooded figure seemingly semi fused with its throne.
My favorite part was when he said "I am the darkest dungeon" and dungeoned all over the dark place
I didn't notice the helmet when I got there, or the dead shambler. I thought that the person who was being treated by PD was Reynauld so I'm going to hold on to hope that he's coming because he's one of my favorite characters. Plus he'd be a great new stress healer/ burn character.
I love the idea of him being a stress/burn character
Easly my favourite fight in the entire franchise
This boss is glorious beaten it blind today! Now that we have all confessions, i think would be a good idea to make a lore video recapping all the story of dd2! let me know if this is something that you would like to do:)
Wait, if the Vestal is shown at the ending behind Dismas, could the one being treated in the bed be Reynauld? Actually, on 2nd viewing who is holding Vestal's hand?
Thats what I like to think.
Here’s a question that I’m too afraid to find the answer for myself, what does the boss do when it gets worship? I’m guessing just a massive exultation hit but if I make it that far I’m not going to throw.
Also, I have a Plague doctor that survived it all, she has all memories.
i think its the face your failures prompt.
It's a big cleave on your whole team that erases your positive tokens
I did this fight blind but I somehow had the best set up for it. Ounce of prevention, oneshotting the backline cherub, I think I only hit deaths door once. The third phase is super easy if you set up a crit and attack up after defeating the past with sharpshot. But I wonder, how do you fight this thing if you don't have rank one attack on one of your people? Besides maybe redoubt which goes through the invinciblity from other heroes.
I ran Carcass, and my solution was to not select her to face her failure
The person saying flagellate is busy getting his balls crushed by arbalest got a laugh from me.
I thought I was choosing who to kill so I picked jester, who ofc had the hardest time defeating his reflection because he could not be encored lmao
Something I just realized rewatching was Junia shaking someone's hand at the back. It does look gray, so it could be flagellant, that they are setting aside their differences, or it could be something else who knows
35:13 there is still hope reynauldbros
16:18
"Look at this drunk asshole"
*takes a mighty swig of absinthe*
Rushed to the endboss (far as DDII allowed it), just so I can safely view all your content safely!
Shuff flexing doing the thumbnail right at the first try
I made it to the final boss with a trio of Hellion, Flag and PD and almost beat the whole damn fight first try, but since I lost my fourth party member before I made it to the boss (damn crit exultation lmao), it basically got me softlocked at the facing your past part, since apparently the game doesn't adjust the damage you do to the boss to compensate for missing party members, so after you clear all three memories it just sits at like 250 health constantly spamming samsara until you die. God I hope they patch that because you have no fucking idea how frustrating it is to have almost beaten this bastard first try only to get screwed over by a bug like that
So, like, it stopped taking damage? I only had to do 3 exultations to it to kill it. I probably blew past some magic "stop taking damage here and offer a face your failure" set point while facing a previous failure. I also had 4 party members throwing damage its way.
I had no idea what the fight was going to be so I'd focused on "whatever it is, race it down" so my group hit pretty hard. With 3 party members it's going to be hard to keep the cherubs down and still do damage. Which is where Alchemist PD comes in. Plague Grenade did serious *work* in that fight for me -- poison the cherub and the boss man? yes, please!
I beat it doing 0 exultations and just stacking dots to like 40-50 damage per turn but it still took a while
@@TheOptimistDelusion Interesting strategy -- the boss won't summon any lightsaber wielding warped cherubim while there is a "failure" being faced, and if it only damages your flagellant that's basically never going to actually defeat you. Adds a bit of weight to the idea that the boss can't go invulnerable during a face-your-failure event.
oh that's hilarious! When the flagellant faces his failure, and the ghost hits, the ghost blights itself.
I only had 3 shrines unlocked on my flagellant when I faced this boss and my ghost didn’t do that 😦. I just thought it couldn’t be damaged
@@TheOptimistDelusion it didn't do that until it had already taken some damage, so I think it only amplifies what the flagellant has already done to it. All the ghosts seem to be completely invulnerable unless the character who is supposed to defeat it takes action to do so.
its possible reynuald is the one who cononicly got unmade.
I love this boss design, super kefka-esque, but not derivative with the twists on the DD1 mechanics
Is this music of this final boss different? It sounds more like dd1 battle music
Crusader isn't dead, i max upgraded him after beating the boss(didn't use torches on him before). The narrator says something about him going back to farming and retiring
Reynauld just took his helmet off because he realized a true GIGACHAD doesnt use protection.
Omg. I thought the clones were just invincible when I saw that my other heroes’ attacks did 0 damage! It took me like 50 rounds to kill the boss 🤯
Like dd2 bosses represent one i think because like act bosses, brain, lungs, hands, eye and body so it that mean some words in to fights i need to check it
Just beat it first try, I wonder if there's some kind of secret boss if you do fulfill some kind of crazy requirement, because it felt a bit too easy for a final boss honestly.
I just noticed that dismas is holding what appears to be a medallion of some sort next to candles that are sitting atop of Reynauld's crusader helmet.. :((((((((((
Its a medallion from his lore, the family he killed. Probably feels reedemed now, judging by how he is smiling.
So I didnt realise that only one character can kill theirs past ghosts, meaning I did 800 damage while my jester survived way too many hits, he died though. Was an awesome fight.
Just watched video after fighting the final boss. Holy shit, it's such a good fight, literally one of the best final boss fights I've ever played. I honestly don't know how they topped Heart of Darkness, but they topped Heart of Darkness.
What if reynauld comes back with like the eldrich eyeball stuff on him
I got my ass handed to me in a pretty obnoxious way. I thought "facing your failure" is going to be a sacrifice, and picked full tank MAA with misstep (+75%hp, -50% dmg). So he could chip his ghost for 1-2 for 20-30 turns, so i decided to outlast, stacked heals, dodges and block+ on him, ghost got to ridiculous damage number while blight duo and jester kept MAA alive and chipped away at the boss. When i lost at turn~50 boss had around 170hp, with 0 exaltations proced.
not to brag, but i get the last section of the boss down to like half health before getting a face your failures prompt, aaaaand i ended up just going nuclear with sharpshooter dismas and tempest baldwin using vanguard baristan riposte spam as well. that last section of the boss took 40 min, the whole body took like 50 min.
Shuff, do you have a video of you seeing the boss for the first time? Chat reactions are nice and all but I wanna see what you thought of it
I tested it before release so my first reactions are unavailable, I'm sorry :(
@@ShuffleFM noooooooooo
You couldn't have filmed it?
I enjoyed watching you play vanilla DD so much
My first attempt at this boss ended in such a stupid way. Didn't know I had to pick a character so I accidentally picked Leper. First turn Leper after the thing popped up Leper got restricted from using Melee attacks. Then he hit Death's Door so he got Weaken Tokens. Then he got Stalward which was nice, just to get crit twice in row to get the Weaken Tokens back which was not nice.
And since it was Poet Leper he was hitting for 2-4 damage.
As second I chose PD just for her to get pulled to the front and since she also wasn't allowed to use Melee attacks she couldn't do anything either.
Probably my unluckiest first attempt at any boss ever.
Well atleast I chewed through 300 of his HP the old fashioned way.^^
Am I the only one who thinks its the Crusader in the hospital bed, next to his helmet?
MAA really screwed me on this lol. I did his regret first and ramparted the mob to the back and could never hit it again and basically got the boss down to 60HP after everything was said and done and then lost.
otherwise, this boss is probably the easiest of all 5 acts
"can it crit" yes, my Hellion got crit for like 20
With block
And the boss being weak
(If my memory is being honest to me)
Ive beaten 4 of the acts and was about to roll up with a strong squad with good trinkets on the act 5 final boss for the first time and my game goes blackscreen and wont move forward from there. r/darkestdungeon has smthing going on so I cant get help from there about this. Decided this comment section could be 1 place to get help on the matter. So far ive tried chancing graphic settings, updating drivers, reinstalling, verifying game files and restarting the computer, nothing has worked so far. I saw someone say that steam overlay can cause trouble but Im running it from epic so that cant be it. Everytime I press continue journey it loads me back right before the final boss gate and when I go in it black screens into infinite loading.
Definitely easy enough to be beaten with most teams unless you make the mistake of a hero's failure being out of their reach like for frontline Runaway, her failure is in rank 4 and had to be chipped down with controlled burn, other than that, fun and a bit odd we got what seems like a "good" ending given the first games ending of "yeah you did it, worlds still fucked but hey you delayed it for a bit!" The story is a bit confusing, like who are we playing as? How will DLC content go since this is a very definitive end to things.
I'm also huffing copium that Reynauld is either missing or the person Junia is holding hands with, they can't keep teasing him like this without a definitive answer dammit
