- In this video I explain how to get Bounty Hunter as well as how to use him. Overall he is a very strong hero since he comes fully mastered with multiple stuns and good damage. This makes it so he can fit on any team, as long as you accommodate him.

For all the peeps--including me--who want to bring BH through an entire run (or at least more regions), I think it'd be cool if Redhook added the option to "extend BH's contract" at the arrival of each inn which'll charge an additional x amt of candles for every region after his initial hiring. I'm just tryna see my boy collect bounty all the way to the end like ye olden days.

Just use mods and you can use him from the crossroads and keep him forever.

It's a shame he's limited time. I realized that only about 15% of players on steam even used BH a single time. I really hope they make him permanent one day because it really seems like nobody uses him
i never used him but i upgraded him fully through hope candles. When i'm doing a run i always forget his existence. I think his presence in the inn need to be a lot more obvious
Problem is, if he appears at the second or even third Inn you already have propably put significant effort into your heroes relationships and synergies. Then he is more in the way than helpful. At least thats how i see it.
If he were to be a permanent hero they’d need to tone him down a lot
conditionless stuns, even on upgraded skills, is REALLY strong

I've never noticed he has been available. Never seen that poster, I'm sure it's been there once or twice... or more. I thought you would see him sitting in a corner or something.
Literally played 20 hours without noticing the poster. Why couldn't it just be a pop-up to make it more obvious?

Exactly, i unlocked him and was playing for days and waiting when he will show up. One day i was just looking around the Inn, what is on Inn emblem and how there is different person every time, then i suddenly noticed there is poster with his face on it.....was wondering how many times i could hire him but missed the opportunity

I was under the impression the whole time he would appear by chance. Incredibly annoying, would have possibly saved a few runs. They made soooo many weird decisions on the Inn's UI man...

My personal headcanon explanation for why BH is so limited is that after DD1, he absolutely refuses to get involved in that whole eldritch shit on any permanent basis ever again. He still helps out from time to time because his professional ethos won't let him refuse a contract, but any long-term commitment is a no-go. He doesn't care that the world is ending, pay up or piss off.
Just wish he was a regular character...my fav by far

Ripping candles out of your inventory (if they're there, and taking them afterwards otherwise) would actually be better though, that's 4 less candles you need to carry with you taking up space

It does kinda blow that he is not an actual character and he does not have his own Shirnes backstory bits. It would be so cool to see what really is going on behind that mask.
sometimes less story is more, especially for mysterious character. If you delve in too deep it loses the magic
I get that a lot of people wanna play him as a regular hero, but I just love this mercenary implementation so much!
It's a really creative mechanic that is very thematic. And it fits him so well!
I feel like in general there were a lot of issues with trying to port over the heroes from the first game, without for example giving them the powerful Stun moves. But with Bounty Hunter they can just say "Oh, he is anyhow a hero for only one region. He is supposed to give you a big power boost for a price. Let's leave the stuns on him".
I feel like if they made him into a regular character, his moveset would make him too powerful and a go-to for any team, even if they nerfed his damage or something. Plus, he would just be "another hero".
Instead you get this cool scenario where you are like "oh, i don't know if I am ready for this next region. Let's hire this mercenary". And then he basically carries you through the region. It leaves a much better impression on you and makes for cooler stories.
For example, when I was bringing Bounty Hunter for the last region, and encountered Collector. BH stunned him with his throwing axe, pulled him forward, and eventually saved my Highwayman who was on Death door, by delivering the final blow on Collector. Then, at the end, BH tragically died while staring down Exemplar, and made it possible for us to beat him.
I just find this kind of stuff really cool! The mechanics tell a very cool story that is in line with the lore. And I don't think that people realize that if it weren't for this mercenary system, BH wouldn't be allowed to be as impressive as he is now, because that would be way too powerful for a regular character. And it would be really difficult to balance his moveset. So it is only thanks to this mechanic that we get to have this really powerful and memorable character.
Bruh I still wish the would just need him and make him a normal hero; he was my favourite hero from DD1
While I am sad that I can't bring through a full run as he is, I am glad for the sake of his imposing presence that Redhook turned him into a walking, unstoppable nightmare: Barely human and inhumanly powerful, whatever he points at, dies.
I just had the pleasure of using this gigachad character for the first time... actually goated.
I honestly just wished he was available at every inn but the mountain, just so you can actually plan your run around him, instead of hoping for a sighting of him.
(Of course, only once per expidition)
I love BH. Maybe I play him wrong, but I really like having him on the front line and using his Hook and Collect Bounty with Consecrations. Plus he's just frickin awesome, but I did have to get the permanent BH mod because I liked him so much.

I wanted to beat all the confessions without using him, but now that I have this guide is great! I spent my candle 'winnings' from 5 on maxing him right away, definitely going to pick him up at the first opportunity and see what I was missing out on.

Since 1.0 launch, I noticed an eerie sound at the arrival of the inn everytime BH showed up.
Confused the hell out of me the first time I heard it. Maybe they added a sound queue to his poster?
Someday we gonna have full run of Bounty Hunter. Favorite hero in the first DD so i hope he gonna be free some day with extra paths as a fully fledge and playable char

I've had him unlocked for quite a while, I've played several games I've never gotten him. But I've never noticed that poster either, I wonder how many times I could have gotten him.
What I need to know about DD2 is how to prevent affinities from changing the moves on my hotbar. I had this happen right before a boss, and I couldn't even attack with a particular character it because of this. That is frustrating!
i've only used him once, i need every candle i can get. I look forward to using him once i have no need for the candles.
You'll make all those candles back if you use his help to get farther than you would otherwise.

I am on act 5, everything unlocked except skins and that last blue torch thing, maybe 100h or so? I have never played Bh. I had to find your guide just so i would know where to find him! It's a combination of that the wanted poster foor his reqruitment blends in with the rest rest of the wall and thati only activily think about wanting him in the first inn. Why it doesnt show up in the heraldric shield in the top left corner with rest of inn information seems so stupid and contrived to me.
The bounty hunter doesn't stay with you as a permanent member because he is a gambler. He decides if he wants to take a risk with you, does his job, takes his winnings, and moves on. He refuses to get attached because he can't risk trying to ride on his luck. It's more professional to instead move on and look for the next good bet.
A lot of his lines from the first game references gambling.
It's the same reason why he doesn't relive his past. Professional gamblers cannot afford to have a personal life. And besides, he does this because he enjoys the thrill. He is constantly living on the razors edge, feeling the high from felling monsters and putting himself at risk. But he is a professional, so he doesn't dwell on that thrill for too long and goes for the kill, before his luck runs out and he is eaten alive.
He is a man with no other life. This is all he has, and what he has dedicated his life to.

80h on DD2, I finished all confessions and I thought BH could join like any other champ in replacement of the dead ones... Is it written clearly somewhere how to recruit him ?

Seriously, He’s such an amazing carry for new profiles he’s 100% worth paying those initial candles to unlock him first.
downside: even though I don’t have a ton of base trinkets unlocked to dilute his pool, I’ve yet to see him spawn with a class trinket I’ve unlocked, which kinda makes them functionally useless, because you definitely shouldn’t invest in getting him a class trinket on the road because he’ll be gone by the next inn
I think he was first thing I unlocked and never knew how to get him....
Him not building affinity is his greatest strength in my opinion. I’ll swap someone right before they become hostile with someone, and then picking up a ton of affinity items if possible for when they come back
what did he do with de bounty? why candles?
question if you lose a character ie they die can bounty hunter come in and replace the dead character ?
When you lose a hero, you'll get assigned a new one at random from the pool of heroes you've not had with you yet that run. Bounty Hunter isn't part of that pool; he's exclusively a for-hire hero. What you can do is have him swap out at the inn with whoever the newbie is, to keep the team's average power up, to farm Mastery points to upgrade the new hero with at the next inn.
Is he still snorting aggressively in dd2 like he did in the first one?

me neither, I've been waiting for months to see him show up at any inn. Never looked for any posters. And I don't play enough to have bothered to google "how do you get the bounty hunter in DD2".
Speaking on affinity: Any tips for helping with this? I've been having issues with team mates hating each other even trying to pick the options that benefit the majority of the team affinity wise. Do certain nodes help with this that I'm skipping or am I unlucky?
Cultist nodes help the most. I'll have an affinity guide soon hopefully

Thematically, i love BH mysterious poster, and his "hire for muscle" approach, but in terms of gameplay it sadly doesnt mesh well.
People who wanted a permanent playable BH were left disappointed, and people who wanted a way to make areas easier get punished with meta progression penalties (which is fine, but they need those candles the most!)
Yeah.I don't even hire BH because I want to build relationships before I get to the mountain. It is just a bad design choice. I hope they will make him permanent or we will get a mod that will unlock him as a permanent hero.

I have 69 hours in this game and I never knew to unlock the bounty hunter you click on the flag.
4 candles for only one regions per expedition is far too harsh.
It would feel way better if you could get a guaranteed contract expensive contract, like a high percentage of your current candles at the altar.
Literally never noticed the poster or that it was clickable. Everything else in the game is super easy to see what's clickable and then this one thing is an Easter Egg? That you have to pay candles to never see? Weird choice.

I noticed the poster right away after unlocking BH without knowing he is hired that way. I'm pretty perceptive tho.
I like the way they implemented BH, I know BH fans are sad by the way he is implemented but hey atleast your favourite made it into the game, mine didn't...XD
Regardless he opens up a lot of stratigies that him being a permanent hero will not, and the idea doens't need to have BH to work, it can be any hero in that position, just having a strong and neutral hero that you can switch on the fly according to your needs is a good idea
My one gripe with DD2 balance is that the "downside / payoff" is way out of whack on so many things in this game. BH is a great example. Sure, you can't build affinity on a character while he's taking their spot. But you can just take every single encounter including lairs, cultists, and dens in the area that you go to if you pick him up, which is always worth more. It's like going to the Sluice, there's supposedly some "risk" but in reality it's basically all upside. Makes me wish these things weren't reliant on RNG and you could force them to be an option, since they're so clearly a buff to almost any run.

If He condições get affinity it wont matter since He its an 1 region only, and affinity only matters afther the Inn (so it wont matter tô him anyways)
Idk I never pick him because I already have a plan when building a team and I honestly feel like he cant deal more damage than hellion or leper he might be able to tank kind of like man at arm but not counter, he cant deal huge dots like plague or runaway and he imo isnt as good as a sharpshoot dismas, stuns are nice but I dont know I just never play him he carried my first runs but currently he doesnt have a job.
BH is meant to be a stronger hero than most, so he can carry early regions while allowing your other 3 heroes to build positive relationships, with the downside being you only get him for 1 region (and that he pops up at random, so you can't pre-plan when you take him). Like, for the region you get him in, he's designed to be MUCH stronger than your average hero. He's strictly supposed to be a boon to a run, not a double edged sword.

i honestly cannot fucking belive that i am THAT unlucky, either they "fixed positive bias", whatever the fuck that means or i just dont know.
Every time i see a neg relationship, i go to the characters and i see 5 fucking percent. Is it not 5% pos 5% neg 90% nothing? I am losing my sanity
"fixing positive bias" meant they reduced the effectiveness of certain popular relationship inn items (like pipeweed for example). You really just are that unlucky.

whiskey flask is basically just the new pipeweed without the stress heal,they changed nothing,there are still items that are just incredibly good for relationships.
@@user-iu4jl6cg4n after a bit of reading up, it seems they not only did the pipeweed change, but also (quote from patch notes) "adjusted overall affinity change rates". I guess this means more disagreements on like resistance nodes? One thing is certain, they didn't mess with the chances of negative/positive relationships when resting. I dunno.
