Hey Kindle Fans! Just an update for you. I manually updated my Kindle 1 to 5.17.2, which is the latest software update as of 12/10/2024. Now my Gen 1 Kindle works exactly the same as the New Kindle. So...for $110 dollars more you can get a white bezel and a pen with a rubber-esc eraser! Not sure why Amazon thought this would go well. Buy the Gen 1 or wait and hope Gen 3 has real upgrades!
You may have covered this but is the writing experience different? Does the new scribe feel more like writing on paper? This will be the deciding factor in which one I purchase. Thanks!
@@onemanbookclub2585 How about the speed? In this video you mentioned that the new Scribe has faster page turns. Any changes to the speed on the old Scribe after updating the firmware?
Also.. the original Scribe received all the new features. You probably figured that out by now. You can also change the size of your note within the canvas.
Everything you said wasn't on the old device is literally available via manual update (or you can wait for Amazon to push it to your device) and so anything you can do on the new Scribe can be done of the old one. I actually think the screen of the old looks a tad bit brighter and better than the new one. I do like the rubber eraser on the new pen but is it worth $80? I think not.
My Scribe 1 hasn't been updated yet. I'll need to wait and see how it handles the new software. I disagree on the brightness. I'm looking at them side by side as I wrote, and I'm not seeing that at all.
To manually install a software update on a Kindle Scribe, you can: Go to the Amazon firmware page and download the update file Connect your Kindle to your computer using the charging cable Drag and drop the downloaded file onto the "Kindle" drive Eject the Kindle to disconnect it from your computer On your Kindle, tap the Menu icon, then Settings Tap the Menu icon again, then Update Your Kindle Tap OK to perform the update After the update is complete, your Kindle will automatically restart
I love the Amazon Scribe cover. Something I’m wondering about, with the new eraser, is if it feels as precise. Because with the hard eraser, you can kind of peak under it to see what’s getting erased.
Thanks for the review! Unfortunately you spent close to $500 for basically a white border. There is literally no difference between this and 2022 Scribe other than the new white bordering. Amazon is really something else lol.
any difference in text quality or maybe that backlight something? Is the page gonna look 100% the same on both devices? Somebody mentioned that on smaller Kindle it was a tiny difference between old and new devices.
Except: In a year from now, the older scribe won't be getting the updates. Amazon is quality though! I still have my og paper-white from 20 years ago with 4 month battery change!
I would have loved to see more features added, for sure.. Aside from being slightly faster with page turns, I haven't noticed much operating difference. My Kindle 1 hasn't updated yet, although I understand others have. We'll see how it functions with the new software version. The value of the new Kindle is still tbd to me.
Well, atleast I got the cool color…. They were giving a 10% discount if you have the Amazon card. Was the cost worth it ummm I guess the color complements are cool 😭
That's not a feature, strictly speaking. It's more a hack that works because of the way the magnetic case turns the Kindle on/off. The magnet in the pen does the same thing. You have to set the pen in just the right way to make it work, though, and it doesn't stick strong enough to hold the pen in place. Either way though, it WOULD be a great video hack to share! Thanks for the idea!

Appreciate the update! Great advise 👍🏼

Nope, the difference is very subtle.

If I'd only waited another day to post... 😆
@@onemanbookclub2585 Ha. Yeah... I was really happy, as an average consumer, that the "new" Scribe didn't make mine obsolete.
@@onemanbookclub2585 Still a great comparison between old and new software.

I don't think the AI features are available yet on the old Scribe, i.e. handwriting improvement and summarization. I did the manual update.
@@davidrutledge6215 With the update to Scribe 1 you'll have EVERYTHING the Scribe 2 has, including "Summarize" and "Refine writing".
Hello 👋🏻 how can I update my old scribe? Thank you 😅

Indeed
I also will be reading Wind and Truth when mine comes in tomorrow! Maybe there's a correlation. Haha
It's sooooo good!

Absolutely, and it feels great. It's kind of weird that something so simple can feel like such an upgrade!

@@Iamwoman27 incorrect. My 2018 and 2019 Kindles still get updates.

Can we export the canvas notes (the notes that can be made on the page directly) as a pdf the way we can with highlights and sticky notes?
I just checked, and the answer is yes!

😆 It's not all bad! The device is outstanding!
Why is it no scribe caster mentions the on/off feature of putting the pen magnetically on the large bezel?

Not a penny for Amazon.
Then you're missing out on some cool stuff!
buddy please turn off auto focus on your camera and focus it correctly. Ruined the entire video. Quality Control nowhere to be found.
Thanks for the tips!
