Next - Can I Spoon You To
One of the most consistently amazing bands out there.
Honestly, none of their albums have disappointed me or rubbed me the wrong way. They are all at least good, most of them great!
tabas1 this song introduced new to the band, so naturally I started researching further. Now if only Adore Delano could get to this level.
Perfect description. Always consistently original. Awesome band. Name is simple though
Anthony Fantano
Britt Daniels emotional vulnerability and honesty is staggering, admirable, inspiring. His voice is like a raw nerve, makes me feel less alone with my own struggles.
this song comes on at my work all the time and that mid part at 1:29 is iconic
Same. I was wondering what this interesting song is.
That’s the best part! I have to reverse it a bunch of times to listen.
@@razrblade4129 I agree, but hearing it with 2 hour back log of orders is not fun 😂
@@2putt that’s a fair point. 😂
I want to live in the world where the general public hears Spoon songs in the wild.
that mid song arabic riff is fk awsome
Just saw them live in Leipzig this weekend and when that kicks in it was like a religious experience (and I don't even believe in God). Immediately elevated this to one of my fav Spoon songs.
On a side note, anyone in the US know what an average Spoon ticket costs there. I think I got to see them for a steal but ain't sure.
@@kevtb874 In the San Francisco Bay area recent tours have cost $30-$40. But from what I have heard ticket prices can often be even lower in other markets that have cheaper venue costs than ours. Either way, one of the best bargains in live music!

Yes Yessss it's all about that part
Honestly my favorite part might be all the freaking awesome indie pop guitar riffs, but it might be tied honestly. Just an amazing song all around
This is some gold-standard indie pop. Gosh I love this album
Anyone else come here for that very specific part.. that makes u start dancing the minute it drops?
If it’s the same part I’m thinking of, then yes. Otherwise, no.
Lisa Raye 1:28
Yep! I shazaam-ed this at work (at a restaurant) because it plays all the time and I love that particular part
2:47 yep
If you're talking about that sick ass keyboard rip, then yes. That part.
Found this song last night while procrastinating at about 4am. It's 8:50pm now and I have listened to this song for over 20x times now... I love it. I pretend to dance to it because I don't actually know how to dance.
This album gonna kick some major ass
I don't get why Spoon isn't more popular. They're accessible, artsy, and even have a bit of novelty value.
Wonder that too, this song so catchy. I guess not enough advertising and marketing their brand which is costly.
Cause they don't play the game. They do themselves. Fuck everything else..
Because they need to make a whole album with this funk/synth vibe, not just 1 song.
It's because they're mediocre. Not as in they sound average but their songs are moderately good, moderately new, moderately in experimentation. Nothing sensational. It feels like they haven't mastered a niche or sold out to try to appeal to everyone. Honestly that's one of the reasons I like their music so much. It doesn't demand your full attention or really grab it but it's always nice when you do find yourself paying attention to it. It isn't too novel or too overdone. It's perfect for someone like me who likes everything in the middle.
@@bennyblubman9476 I dunno, I think albums like Transference or Hot Thoughts get pretty artsy and experimental
No other band makes me crave for their album on a consistent basis like Spoon
They finally played a good song on the radio and this was it. I been waiting since 1996.
Still as amazing a track as it was when I first heard it. I have much love for this band's musical talents ❤
I'm really liking the electronic and funk elements on this song and the title track. I guess they're taking what they tried on They Want My Soul further. It definitely has hints of Britt's work with Divine Fits as well. The instrumentation is excellent! We get more hand clapping, crunchy guitars, acoustic strumming and Britt's "rock n roll" voice. A lot of bands try to move into new territory but it mostly fails. I appreciate Spoon's ability to play with sounds and rhythm. It shows that they're willing to try new things and experiment as they continue to evolve. I'm really looking forward to this new album! To me, their magnum opus is Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga. But regardless, they consistently release great music.
TheAmirata TRANSFERENCE 🙏
I read this in Christian Bale's voice a la the scene in American Phsycho where he extolls the virtues of Huey Lewis and the News. 😁
1:19 the piano followed by bass that goes deeper and deeper! lovely
I'm so utterly hype for March 17th. This is wicked good.
SPOON....funky as you know, that thing
Wonderful heard it first time in Value Village store. Grateful 🙏🏻
The violins/synths strings...are amazing i feel weird hearing them slide like that...
Very much so, its weird because i'm middle eastern too...brings out the roots XD
sounds like a mellotron with a speed change pedal, but probably synths. beautiful.
This Album is unbelievably AWESOME
“This song is alright.”
*the next day*
“IT’S STUCK IN MY HEAD!”
I just freaking love the orchestra- is it electronically manipulated or could one really play like that all together? Mesmerizing.
1:29 - 1:49
does anyone know any other songs with this type of rhythm. I feel like I'm being put into a trance or riding through a tunnel at night. I love it!
In a way it reminds me of part of "Doctor Doctor" by the Thompson Twins.... but it is really in a funky cool class by itself. :) Love it.
You should Give Beck a try he released a new album called colors you’d like it if you dig this
the same arpeggiator thing is in deadmau5's track "Snowcone"
Karate Chop Kiah just basic funk rhythm. Listen to James Brown. Lol.
J Summers in a way. Thompson twins were better.
one of my favorite artists for years and years to come
i hope i catch them on the east coast tour
Always reinventing and always satisfying. New classic!
I have listened to this album twice, still felt like I have never heard this song before in my life while listening to it for the third time.
Multidimensional eargasms.
amazing synth melody and sound
Spoon brought me here. Solid music on this album!!!
i just followed you.. hello Mrs Holmes
Spoon going in for heaping pulls of sugar because this is Sweeeet!
Finally found this song nobody knew what it I tried to remember the lyrics. I like this song they play all the time at my job
Been playing this song for like 4 weeks non stop in rotation.
Thanks for coming back most excellent. See you in SF.
They've done it again....their talent, depth, and longevity earns them a spot among the best of all time.
Just heard this song in Walmart. Paid no attention until the big synth part. Had to pull out the phone and do a quick Shazam on it. Cool song.
I was in Target and Shazamed immediately after i heard the synth part.
god damn pumped for this album, spoon never disappoints
His freakin voice man. I'm obsessed
That synth part just kills!
Spoon is always different but the same in a good way
You do it for me! Thanks you all! My first show was @ the. Parish in Austin. Love all your songs! Over and over, I never get tired❤️ Always such an awesome combination of sounds!
Spoon is very much like Bowie in terms of their restraint. The hooks are there but they're subverted and restrained. It's what gives the songs staying power, they always leave you wanting more. that's part of why they're a great band, but also part of why they've never gotten bigger. Too subtle, their songs need to grow on you, most people don't have the attention span for that.
I agree, music like this is the music that I go back to after years of listening. It seems like the most popular songs I can almost always guess what the next note will be before I hear it, but stuff like this has that element of surprise while still leaving me satisfied. It never gets old.
Schmeldwick smith stfu idiot
Word!
Well that's just mean, isn't it?
Bowie?
Can I sit next to you?
Can you sit next to me?
Get the stars out your eyes
Come and bring them to me
[Chorus 1]
I been down so long
I been working on a plan, yeah
It's just that
I been down so long
I gotta give me my mine when I can
[Verse 1]
Can I sit next to you?
Can you sit next to me?
I walk to Memphis alone
'Cause you'd do it for me
Oh, I know you would
All of the kicks from the sticks
All the kicks that we knew
I put all that aside, concentrate on you
All the kicks from the sticks
All the hits that we took
All the stitches we got
All our brains so cooked
Oh oh oh
[Bridge]
Some day I'm gonna get where you want 'em
I've been down so long
Been down but now I gotta get lifted up
[Verse 2]
I'm gonna walk a tightrope
Gonna get kicks every night
No one's holding me back
No one's changing my mind, oh
Gonna walk a tightrope
Gonna get kicks every night
No one's holding me back
No one's changing my mind
Get the stars out your eyes
Come and sit next to me
Under Tennessee skies
Down on South Front Street
Oh oh oh
[Chorus 2]
I been working on a plan, yeah
I been down so long
Been down but now I gotta get lifted up
Goosebumps every time..
One of the few bands that someone can love and grow to love even more after 2 decades of solid output. Hot Thoughts is great and right there with their best.
awesome sounding band.. really like them
i went to their concert in paris last year which only costed 20 euros per one day. i thought they deserve much more than that and i would've paid more willingly. i enjoyed enough even though i was on the second floor because the hall was bit small (about 1 or 2 hundred people would fit) and the sound they made filled the whole place with amaze. performance was magnificent and i loved their energetic play. listening to this song reminds me of that night i made myself a big fan of them. thanks for your work.
what? already?!! haha I'm still enjoying the hell out of They Want My Soul! haha I could've never imagined that a new album would be dropped so soon
John Perez It came out almost 3 years ago...
Christian B yeah, I remember it was 2014 haha but what I'm saying is that it still feels fresh. It's one of my favorite albums to drive to
My fave Alt band out of Austin. Three years since the last release. It was worth it.
this is amazing!! goes to favorites list
This is...Beautiful. Lifts me up and gets me down at the same time, like all good music does.
Great tune in so many ways
I always think of the "Unsolved Mysteries" theme when I hear this. Love it!
The synth riff has me feeling some type of way!!!!
Just bought this song. I like the middle eastern sound in the chorus.
Kept hearing this song at Walmart and finally got the chance to shazam it
Brit You my friend or TOTALLY AWESOME MAN YOU ROCK. ROG THE FARMER FROM GRANTSBURG WISCONSIN

Get the stars out your eyes
Come and sit next to me
I'm the Tennessee skies down on South Front Street
I've been working on a plan, yeah
I been down so long
Been down but now I gotta get lifted up
IMO - In the last verse (repeated 2 times) it sounds like it is "No one's holdin' me back. No one's changin' my mind."And "Under Tennessee skies, down on South Front Street."Thanks for posting lyrics though.
on the chorus it's actually "Somedayyyy I'm gonna get. right. (you oughta). I didn't realize it forever either. it's actually way cooler
Oh ya ...I love to groove to this tune!
Top five bands of all time. Spoon's there. Forever.
I sort of wish the album would just come out, I want to hear it all! my appetite is getting ruined
I went on a 3 1/2 day roadtrip this last weekend, put 5 Spoon CD's, one Divine Fits CD, and two Noel Gallaghers in the changer and just let it rotate. Great driving music. Can't wait to see them in 2 months in Austin
WallaceTexas did you go to ACL or did you see them at Stubbs?
@@melissamccrary8282 i saw them 3 times on the last tour, kinda wanna see them support beck too
OMG!😻 This is THE greatest music video ever!
Marcel Dzama is just aesthetically brilliant, so is editor Nate Pommer, & High Priestess Vanessa Walters OWNS this sublimely beautifully thing🦇
Ugh... FINALLY! found this song and the artist(s)... Totally my jam
Guys, this song is great, I love this electro pop feeling from 90's, keep it up the good work! Love your work!
Super super cool song and refreshing video
They are amazing in concert, too ❤️
Very.
anyone else get a lovely bowie vibe from this?
dryten and kinda Prince, I know they're both an influence
I got an even bigger vibe from the previous single they released from the new album
yeah i was listening to "Hot Thoughts" the other day and thinking that the harmonies and dancey beat reminded me of 80s Bowie. weird.
haha well if they wanna go in a bowie-inspired direction for this album I'm certainly not gonna complain
Yeah, both of their new songs have reminded me a lot of Bowie as well. It's cool others agree
UNDER TENNESSEE SKIES /
DOWN ON SOUTH FRONT STREET /
AWWWHWWAAWWH!
That part has been stuck in my head all week.
Nice, March 17 come right now please
That violin part (or whatever it is) is so good
mellotron with speed changing capabilities or synths, either one, amazing.
LOVE THIS SONG AND THE VID!
I've pre-ordered - and it's out practically on my birthday too! can hardly wait
It came out on my bday :)
luv it!!! 27 stars!!!
Cool 80’s vibe. Good one
It's virtually impossible for a established rock band to be better album after album nowadays (just look at other famous rockbands.. btw Spoon is actually commercially consistent as well), yet they did it. I did not completely fall in love with them in the first place (except for a few standout tracks), but now their music have completely won me over!
I'd argue Radiohead are another great established band that have been very consistent critically and commercially.
King of Limbs
Oh boy, here we go....
Isles Isle King Of limbs is underrated. Complete pleb filter.
Yining Fan I disagree. Tame Impala and Beach House get better, and better with each album.
i love how old school this looks. i'm living the early 80s again!
They can't write a bad song.
the fact this was written 4 years ago and no one has disputed it just proves your point
@@iseedivision5244 This comment had me come back and relisten to a great song. Thank you.
Yep. Still undisputed.
No not really 😂🤘
1:29 blows my mind. I can’t get enough of that drop.
Awesome retro chic montage. Obsolete AfterEffects, references to German expressionist film, downtuned synth riffs ... Love it! And more or less danceable. Pop is not dead, yet.
Funky Funky!!! Sweet! You guys Rock!!! Thank you!!
This song takes me a back to a place In time I would do anything to go back to man...
I love this song. I hear it everyday at work, lol
Has a "Cure" type vibe.
lo que suena esto papá!!!!!
great track
💜 Spooning to this glam funk gem! 👅
Spoon: "Can I sit next to you?"
Foster the People: " Sit next to me!"
Over 2 years late, but I've also thought the titles are similar lol
Im a little disappointed i didn't think of this myself lol
Innamorata di questo brano
So here for this.
Loved the fact that I preordered, meaning I can download this track now. 🙋
this mother of beauty has heavy Marcel Dzama vibes
My favorite song off of their newest album!
I need this in my life
Omg wow ❤
great song great video.
AHHHHHHHHHH!
It's so damn good!
Mierda que bueno! es Espectacular gracias por su arte
Sé que es imposible pero ojalá algún día vengan a Paraguay
Namasté
This album is gonna be fucking good
Fucking great*

Cool song.
