Sorry I was late to the party but I have to say something ;-) One of my first software project was the some kind of driver for Roland DXY plotter. It was written on Turbo Pascal. Thirty years gone but I still remember that. Your video brought to me many good memories.
Back in 2004 I was in electronic engineering school. We had a plotting machine like this one in the workshop to print out electronic layout. I almost forgot about that thing, but I do remember being mesmerised by the plotter, watching it go, and my schematic slowly appearing on the paper. Good times.
Hi, Can show in detail how you install this Phyton stuff and chiplotle library in windows. I just can't do it. I have the same Roland Plotter as you, which I like to use. Thanks in advance.
That's the kind of plotter I''d want, the trace is just more natural than what inkjets does, or even lasers. it's vector, and that means Illustrator could be useful at one thing.
HI. Nice video. I have Graphtec MP3200. Still in use. Working on Win 7x64. CorelDraw, Illustrator all vector programs. I ve put blade holder as pen1 and can do die-cut. Great machine.
8 different pens where originally mapped against different line weights in AutoCad. Draw on screen in different colours to get different thickness of black on your paper. Machine would have run from MS DOS AutoCAD release 12 or below plus drivers.
I'am an owner of a Roland DG plotter DXY 1200 . My question is how to make my plotter draw with a single line by center line a font without a retrace i'am under corel draw X6. thank you very much for your attention .
My company used to have similar plotter many years ago. The slides are prepared with Harvard Graphics (Anyone remember Harvard Graphics?) and printed on special paper or transparent slides. The printing mechanism of the plotters is elegant but it has a big problem: the pens dries out very easily and they are very expensive. It was eventually replaced by dot matrix printers, then by inkjet and laserjet and eventually presentation slides were completely made obsolete by projectors.
@@robertwalling9010 In which country did you work in 1994? We switched to PowerPoint projection in 1995 and I believe that Hong Kong is 3-4 years behind the US in adopting the technology. Harvard Graphics was already dead in 1995.
I have an old Roland DPX-2200 plotter which I used until a couple of years ago for plotting circuit diagrams and family trees. I guess I could obtain a USB to Serial converter and use it on my current PC. I used ORCAD for circuit diagrams and GENBOX for family tree. Here in the UK it is difficult to find disposable pens these days. Here's a picture:- www.flickr.com/photos/37876430@N06/16067348153/

I forgot how wonderful it was to watch a plotter work!

Did you ever do any more videos with this?
I just love the motor sound, that's so great.

My school had one never used it and tossed it after it was outdated. It was too expensive to uses LOL.
Notice the sounds when it grabs a pen is the same sound Robocop makes when he gets his gun from his leg?

I wish they made more Roland dxy pen plotter
That is awesome little machine. Love to see how it would do etching sheet metal.
Just picked this model up myself. Hope I can get it working
hey, cool :) so, what is marking of steppers?
I have one of these in storage, maybe I will pull it out now
What cad and cam software can the plotters can be used
I used this with AutoDesk AutoSketch however I am unsure if they would work with newer versions of it.
Have you tried plotting on the PCB directly? Thanks
Can it use a knife for cutting out stencils and how difficult is it to get more pens and ink refills?
Very cool 'gadget'! I see that you have had a bit of interest in it. Did you ever sell it? Or are you still open for offers?
We have got to get one of those
What is current value of Roland DXY 1150?

Was reading the above comments and was thinking about back in 1994 when I used Harvard Graphics and your comment popped right up!
