Hi Todd I see some people are asking about this and you don't seem to know the answer either. The reason why you need a different focusing screen matching your back is because yours is a Hasselblad H-mount. If you were to use a Digital Back with a Hasselblad V-mount, Mamiya 645 or Contax 645, you wouldn't need the 3rd party focusing screen. Kapture Group's adapters predate the existance of H-mount (2002) and only existed in the 3 aforementioned mounts at first. The H-mount is recessed relatively to the V one, which is why they then came up with the matching screen. This is from Kapture Group's own website: "The addition of a matching focus screen insert was required to adjust and maintain par focus given the recessed focus plane of all H model digital backs. One tradeoff is the older Fuji GX680 model I & II loose the ability to focus at infinity with the 50mm and 65mm wide angle lenses. They can still be used for close up work. This does not appear to be an issue with the Fuji GX680 model III." I'm guessing your friend has a V or Mamiya 645 mount Phase One DB which is why they don't need a different screen. V mount Kapture Group OneShot + adapter plates are the most ubiquitous, whereas the Mamiya one is hard to find, the Contax even more and the H mount is also rare. Hope this helps.
I can't wait for my camera to arrive. Shipped straight from Japan on FedEx Express, 4 day shipping from Tokyo! I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas. I am so done with lomography cameras. They didn't take that pictures I wanted. Now I just need a digital back. Thank you for that video
@@ToddEckelman90 Thank you, Tomorrow is the day! I will have as much fun as humanly possible. As a backdrop story, my family has been in photography business since cameras came out, or at least 5 generations. I want to try some Ansel Adams type of thing as well. I was probably about the only 5 year olds in the planet who knew who he was. lol
The kapture group adapters have become as rare as a purple unicorn. I own a 680 since 2017, I tried finding the kapture adapters on eBay many times never found one , yet haven’t lost hope.
in 2021 I feel like all these super expensive, difficult-to-find little pieces of equipment (like the adaptor or the custom glass holder) should be reachable as 3D models for everyone to print them out easily.... it's crazy that whatever adaptor I found so far costs more than what I paid for mi GX iii
Hello, Tod! Your video gives a very clear understanding of the process, thank you! I have one question - where can these Kapture Group adapters be found? I couldn't find them on ebay or on the web in general. Or maybe there are alternative ways to connect the camera and digital back? I have GX 680 III and Phase one P30+ to make them "talk" to each other 😆 Thank you for any feedback 😊 Best regards, Hadzhymurad.
That is an excellent question! I have no idea, they stopped making them a long time ago. You would have to get lucky finding one on eBay. I sold my P30 back last year and might try and get a newer back to put on my GX 680 III. Good luck trying to find something to make it work.
Great to see your video, I have just sent my Kapture box off to be repaired, something fried and it wouldn't send the signal to the back. I must admit I've never heard of the focus screen, I use a P30+ which seems to focus fine with a standard screen. I just wish they had brought out an updated and smaller version before the company closed.
@@ToddEckelman90 Hi, Have you ever had image colour issues using the Kapture one box at 1/2s 1s and 2s settings, mine came back from repair today and all I get are images with a strong purple tint. All the other settings are fine though.
I have seen that. I just shoot the first image into CaptureOne and color correct it and when the rest of the images come they have that correction. I don't know what causes that to happen. Sorry I can't be of any more help with that issue.
Hi Todd, Great Video! I finally got my Kapture group adapter and box today. I have one Question : where can I find the cable that you use to trigger the camera and back remotely?
Hey Erik, that’s great that you got your adapter. I don’t know off the top of my head where you can find that trigger cord. I will ask a buddy of mine that has the same adapter if he knows where to find one. I will get back to you on this.
To your knowledge, are there any other digital backs that work with the GX680? Perhaps, something that offers more than 22mp? I haven't been able to find any but then again I'm an armature and I really don't know what to put into the search engine. Thank you for taking the time to record and share this video. Much appreciated
@@ToddEckelman90 I will look into that model as an option. I wonder what the megapixel count and cost is though. I want to keep my arm and my leg but, I just may have to give them up for this setup lol. Thank you very much for sharing this with me ✌
one other thing, as it is like a "technical camera"- the back onto a mechanical thing, you need to tell the back this (set the shutter system 'latency'-the time the current goes from the shutter(or p\c sync port) to the back to capture), in most cases the "long" mode is required, giving you 10 sec. to fire the camera after hitting the backs' capture button; Phase one XT/XF/XC are the exceptions to this, as they route the signal through internal contacts, to the back; some contax, hasselblad, and others are the same, you NEED to read the backs manual, the chapter on connecting to technical cameras, to find the settings, as well as what cable systems are recommended to use it, this also applies to connection to view cameras, esp. if electronic lenses are used, with control boxes.
Very cool. Do you know if any of these backs that can shoot video or send/stream a high quality signal? Very hard to find information. I found a Sinarback that can kind of do it, but it’s like they don’t exist.
Thanks for your video, great - I am looking into buying a similar setup but the only thing I cannot find is the focusing screen, do you have any details model number of manufacturer? Thanks
I have a buddy and he has the P45+ back and he is not using a different focusing screen and it works fine. So I am not sure if it's only the P30 back that needs the different Focusing screen.

@@ToddEckelman90 Hi Todd, The focusing screen mod' is only needed for the Kapture Group mounting plate. It was very thick and threw the focus plane out, so they supplied the screen as a bodge fix. I have used one of the cheap adapter plates off of eBay for about a decade, with excellent results with the normal focusing screen.
This year I want to include the GX680II in my studio workflow with a digital back. Thanks for sharing this!
