I like this EQ a lot. Yes being able to bypass each band would be really nice. This is something that the Massive Passive EQ has. I owned the UAD plug in version first, and then got the hardware version in my studio. I found a big enough difference even though the plug in got in the ball park to actually purchase the Massive Passive.
Have you ever tried the Weiss Eq Hardware any version because I see a lot Weiss and Maselec gear in mastering studios and on reverb theres quite a few Weiss Audio Eqs and compressors going for cheap some 2k and some 3k in Mint condition...If you have heard the Weiss Eq or have used it what are your thoughts on that as a surgical eq vs the Maselec Mea2 OTHER voices are also welcomed...Thanks
@@AudioAnimalsStudio I'm sure acustica never claimed it was an emulation on their site for legal reasons maybe, but yes the Ivory stuff seems to be based on the Maselec stuff, would love for you to download the trials and shoot them out if you have a min!
@Nick Watson I've heard a few people claim it but never heard any proof that it has been built to sound like the maselec. I will look at doing a comparison soon.
@@AudioAnimalsStudio here are the details for Ivory: Ivory (17) - Maselec MEA-2 equalizer (IAE2, year 2017 model), Maselec MLA-4 (Mac-3, multiband compressor/limiter), COMP 1B is a single band derivative of the MLA-4, DynEQ is a dynamic eq derived from MEA-2 & Comp 1B and DynEQ Stereo is a dynamic eq derived from IVORY3 STEREO and Comp 1B. LIMITER MAL-2 = Maselec MPL-2 Peak and HF limiter
How would you compare the character of this EQ to say- a sontec? I always see this as a more “hi-fi” eq than sontec, although im sure that if true, its an oversimplification. Oh and the buzz too- there arent too many out there who I know of that own both and so can really ask for a “comparison”. I know the internet hates these questions but I feel like they are still useful at least to myself personally
What I like most about this eq is that you can have a shelf across all 4 bands makes for some interesting curves. Have you ever used a sontec mes 432? I would like to add one of these to the rack one day.
@@AudioAnimalsStudio should do I hear the dials feel especially nice to touch. Have never used one physically but I have used a plug-in version and I can tell that this eq will shine on the top end has a 25k setting that just opens up the highs in a unique way, even more refined than that air band on the magg. Would be sick to get one of them in if you have the links.
@@AudioAnimalsStudio I purchased the MusEQ from another video of yours, so I appreciate your advice. You think the PQ+MusEQ would be nice? or Maselec+MusEQ?
@mixedbyedd in that case I'd go for MusEQ and PQ. This way the PQ can be used as your surgical EQ and the MusEQ be used in mid side. The one thing you miss with the MusEQ is a really detailed surgical EQ. I never see it as that. I see it as more of an enhancement tool. Much like how I see the Maselec.
@@AudioAnimalsStudio Hands down, you're the most exceptional online mentor, no doubt! Exceptionally articulate and thorough. Just what I needed to confirm my choice - PQ it is. Thank you, boss! 🍻
God it sounds so good. Really appreciate all these videos, very useful !

Thank you so much for important videos! Bravo!!! (this is the best equalizer in the world! buy it!)

a proper dance music shootout between this eq and the acustica ivory would be amazing
Don't they just look alike? I'm pretty sure it's not an emulation. Where did you read this?

@@NoQualmsTheArtist very interesting. This is a test I want to do now.

Make review of alpha comp

The Sontec is good. One I'd love to bring in for a shootout.

in your opinion, which do you prefer for modern pop, hip hop, and r&b - Maselec or SPL PQ?
I'd probably go for the PQ. Maselec is great if paired with another EQ. Get them both. They are powerful together.

whats your desert island EQ now
100% the Buzz REQ 2.2. Although I wouldn't want to take it to a desert island and get sand in it.
UAD plugins are so much better
