I feel good should be number one. It was used dozens of times, especially in the 80s and 90s. Maybe they pulled back on it recently, but it's got to be the most used song (that isn't public domain) in movies.

Watching SNF as an adult - is a radically different experience. It’s no “disco romp.” Saturday night Fever is an incredibly dark film (watching it as an adult was just crushing - horrible things happen to innocent characters - including the brutal SA of a neighborhood girl who trusts the guys as her friends and the vicious betrayal is devastating, has a sad unrequited “love story,” random racially-motivated hate and violence, constant belittling, terrible physical abuse and domestic violence at home, profound mental health issues, etc).
There are *many* very dark events, and it’s basically implied that Travolta will *never* escape his working class roots (the “sequel” is completely worthless so I’m not even mentioning it). The same is the case of “Staying Alive” - the lyrics are brutal and reflect the empty, bleak reality of Travolta’s world - basically trying to outru, the void, which wlewys, inevitable, catches up.

Mr. Blue Sky isn't used that much either. Like 3 films is not that much compared to the dozens of movies that used "I Feel Good" by James Brown.

The first line of the song actually matches up with the main character’s last name, but perhaps that was too on the nose.

Walking on Sunshine is often used to quickly set up a quirky (yet very likable) character’s introduction to a show.
Example: when the character of Charlie was introduced on Supernatural, she is walking into a very subdued office building. She has her headphones on and is listening to the song. As soon as she steps onto a glass elevator that is empty, she energetically begins to dance until she abruptly stops when the elevator stops and she steps off and back into a subdued role.
No other song can take 30 seconds and set up that characterization so well.

I mostly remember it as a gag from the musical “We Will Rock You” where the evil lead thinks she’s won and starts to sing the song, only for her underling to stop her (and the song) almost immediately. (I believe in an anniversary performance she breaks the fourth wall, complains about how she never gets to sing it, and then not only does the entire song, she also pulled Brian May out from behind a piece of scenery to play the solo!)
