I hope Warrior spear isnt one of those weapons that *can* do ranged but really it cant because the damage is so gimped when far away. Longbow warrior is like that -- if youre not up close for fan of flames youre doing like half the damage

No gimmick. 8 bullet points for the teaser of spears. That leaves warrior out. As we saw, there is no mechanic with spear. So it's fair to say that we get no special treatment. Just a basic skill interaction.
I like the lightning rod/conduit theme for engineer spear. But I would like engineer's hammer to have a more distinct theme then. Both are melee (with some range) 2-hand electricity weapons. Hammer can keep some electric animations, but give it some smokey/demolitionist animations to give it a more unique visual theme compared to spear.
Huh I got so caught up in the novelty of the engine lightning spear that I didn't consider that! But you're right. I doubt they'll change the hammer tho
Just gona mimic what I posted somewhere else: I want to like the warrior spear kit. But I'm a bit cautious... 2 things stood out to me: 1) The RANGED weapon does MORE damage in melee... I don't think I need to elaborate on that one. 2) The move where you evade back, and then swing a gust of wind to knock targets back seems super niche. Like you're already jumping (presumably) out of range, but then you launch this gust to knock the (out of range) foes back... Am I missing something here? It would have made more sense for it to launch a gust of wind right at the start of the evade, so it reliably knocks targets back, and gives you some distance at the same time.
Waiting to test it on beta, i think that Anet can improve the Engi spear autoattack as the ranger one, with lightning bolt/beam if it is ranged and what we have seen when in melee distance. This because we can't swap and a lot of players likes to play WITHOUT kits --> as full signets Mech or full gyros scrapper, or full elixirs holo. Improving the autoattack with both melee and ranged option could be a smart move to have a smooth gameplay.
Regarding warrior: I prefer there not being mini mechanics in every weapon after the nightmare of ele pistol and the overly bloated UI. Maybe once they finally clean that up it should be alright Thief: yeah, just pure hype for me cause I used to play gw1 assassin a lot. Honestly I might actually genuinely enjoy playing thief for the first time since launch.
I hope they give some of the Thief combo stuff or like the Monk in WoW having more damage on unique attacks. Like Thieves would swap skills you use if you got a unique skill buff stack or something.
lol the comment sections are all over the place - in my raid guild n in some other content creator comments everyone's excited for warrior, here comments are dooming hardcore on warrior 😂 i love how everyone have completely 180deg opposite opinion on literaly everything 😂😂😂😂😂
I am excited for Engineer but I am intrigued by Elementalist because we don't want another melee weapon and I can see the Spear being either so, I don't know. Revenant it's always a surprised, something different and unique, same with Mesmer. Defo they left the last 3 for the end, on purpose.
Warrior worries me a bit. It's the only one who seems to get the short end of the stick. No fancy new mechanic, a weird theme with the spear being an aoe weapon that explodes, and a ranged weapon that seems to favor close combat... They should add a mechanic where the skills have a different effect based on the distance : when closer the skills have effects that help keeping ennemies at bay with movement or cc, not by dissuading enemies with more damage, otherwise it means you actually want ennemies to be close to kill them quick which completely defeats the purpose of a ranged weapon ! The damage bonus should happen when they're farther (not just bigger numbers, add a little something so it's actually cooler than that).
You haven't understood the desciptions of the skills mate. The skills don't deal more damage based on proximity. Instead they have increased effectiveness like better cleave/aoe which is actually a fair trade off.
So far the spears looks awsome. Thief is a favorite and i am worndering if it will work well with Daredevil. Next week is ele which is my main and i have zero hopes for something fun, engaging with fun movements, and without 30 buttons smashing, whilst something moving around me that do nothing of interest and will still be nerfed anyway. Yeah i know i am a downer on this, i just want to get a WOW moment, where i feel oh shit this looks amazing!
yeah i was also an ele main, but dropped the class after losing all hope on they giving a GOOD weapon, or even reworking the existing ones so just went back to my necro, all weapons are amazing, feel good, look good, a lot of build variety, all traits lines feels like they work and have exiting gameplay and also started maining holo, really exited for spear
with the thief, i am quite worried ur going to see 1 Attack chain be Condi other be Power and ur basically going to hit the one that ur aligned too, i really wish they picked Either power or condi and Kinda focused its abilities in this way i feel like the mechanic would be far easier to flesh out in a more dynamic fashion in all content.
I hope engi and ele spear skills are strong but long cooldowns to compliment their huge number of existing skills/toolkits, rather than being redundant in these class's action economy.
@@TheEightDomain I was thinking of Photon Forge too on holo, and mortar is great in wvw and pvp. Otherwise yea feels like some of the kits are outdated and need a rework.
@@Narcemus Swords were actually good, though. Eles have gotten shafted the last 2 times with obscure mechanics and nonexistent UI to handle them. Melee or ranged, Elementalists have plenty of reason to be wary right now.
Once again warrior gets shafted while everyone else gets cool new toys. Literal 2012 design damage stick. They didn't even try to add an interesting new mechanic for it, unless "you do worse if you fight at range with your ranged weapon" counts as a mechanic.
@Brianmiguelroman condi zerker abusing omega overpowered skullgrinder and spb tanking with staff are hardly any fun. WvW warrior is negligible. Traits are a mess. Weapons still not updated, unlike Ranger. History teaches that warrior is used with the least in mind. Either overpowered and then nerfed to oblivion, or dogshit and remaining dogshit.
core warrior weapons : Maces power, Pistol power, staff support power, axes power, Hammer power, LB both, rifle Power, daggers power condi : Sword torch so dumb and No zerker F1 not relevant here, im talking abt the weapons themselves on core warr

I don't get the appeal, the chain attack system was already in auto attacks, this seems like yet another clunky attempt to make thieves use more than the best initiative skill + auto attack I can already see queueing the wrong skill because of not knowing the skill actually flipped over or it missed Just give us a fluent weapon again please... rifle, scepter and axe were all clunky
I want a good thief condi weapon that can hit multiple targets for Specter in PvE, but I'm worried that another hybrid weapon will be broken on Deadeye and render it useless for everyone else (see: axe). With apologies to people that enjoy Deadeye, I want that elite spec reworked from the ground up so it doesn't screw an entire class ever again.
Similar for me, but want a pure power version that has good aoe, was hoping to get it when specter came out, but power well is basicly useless in pve and no trait has any power amplifier. Basicly last time a good power build that Thief got that is not single target was when HoT came out with Staff Daredevil.
honestly i hate it.... as warrior... when i hear warrior with a spear i think of someone who charges in stabs in the chest with it. Not as someone who pulls javelins out of his ass and pew pew. I know what ppl say about " yeah but we needed range" well.. 1. fix rifle that noone uses. 2. we have main hand pistlols to go. and short bows. what will those be ? hmmmm? melee? Would he grab the short bow and whack the shit of out u ? ..... i just .. yeah. I dont know
Yeah when I imagined spear all these years I was thinking a more basic move set, series of stabbing autos, rapid jabs on the 2 like what underwater spear already has, a cool dash on the 3 and then the wacky stuff on 4 and 5.
@DocM94 aka roleplayers and people in pve. Weapon wi be dead on arrival for wvw if it uses more projectiles than the auto (and the auto being a projectile is a problem in itself for adrenaline generation) while in pvp only spellbreaker will be tailored to use it since it will be possible to perform: F1, FC, F1, dodge back, evade, swap, evade, staff block, dodge, aegis, endure pain, swap, evade, F1, FC, F1 while healing and doing some padding dmg.

Bet anything that spear warr wont have any traction after the 1st week of playtesting. Beta test will change nothing. Weapon will be crippled from the get go.
Confirmed 2 handed on all classes, because it already exists as a 2 handed weapon in the game code for underwater. Doesn't mean that Eles don't need to fear, however.

nah from the description it's fairly clear that it is a ranged weapon with some gimmicks in melee to create distance

I have to admit I’m hyped. I was wishing for thief spear to deal hybrid damage and it looks like that’s exactly what it’s going to do.

Some engi builds barely use kits though, and a short cooldown finisher is needed on the weapon if scrapper wants to use it for quickness ;v

Shafted? Warrior is in a great place if not overpowered. Every single specialization and core has meta builds for PVP.

Axe is used on daredevil and still bis for core thief. Spectre's reduced initiative makes it hard to use there
Naw. Improve Daredevil and Specter so they can actually engage with Initiative. More fun for everyone. Don't put your bets on the losing horses.

It was done like this because people wanted gw1 paragon. Throwing javelins is how paragon worked, so anet gave people what they asked for

M7 isn't what broke axe. Its One in the chamber, which grants deadeye heavy access to stealth without needing to spend initiative on it.
