Cheating is never okay, but neither is domestic violence. I think it's sad that society accepts this behavior from women, and when asked about it "I didn't know I could get that mad", "I told him not to mess with me". This is the same as victim shaming. If it was a man saying it about a woman that cheated, or a girl he assaulted we'd all be disgusted.

Would you say that it's someone' s shortcomings when they get violent when someone else poisons their water supply? The effects of cheating risk effects similar to a biological weapons attack. STD's are serious illnesses . Some are deadly and incurable.
You're acting like cheating purely only has these emotional consequences and that when the person that was cheated on can' t handle it, it must be his/her shortcomings. The damage of cheating on someone' s health and mind is tremendous. People get depressed, stressed with all sorts of other physical consequences, even suicide. And then there is the risk of the cheater giving his victim a STD...
I don' t agree with violence as a way to express oneself as a cheating victim, but to simply brush that violence off as shortcomings of character puts the focus too much on the victim as the guilty ones and takes away the cheater out of the equation and the risks for the quality life of the victim the cheater is bringing. I would also say that violence is not the appropriate response, but would give consideral weight to the cheater as the cause of the violence instead of 100% guilt for the victim.

Going to bore you with an anekdote: a friend of the family from Haiti died because of Aids. He had minimal understanding of the virus. He thought only '"Bad" people can get Aids. we saw him getting weaker and also itching a lot and getting more and more marks and bumps on the skin. We brought him to a doctor, but our friend disregarded all advice and went to haiti to get cured by his voodoo-doctor. He was highly religious . He fucked around a lot outside his marriage. very sad. His wife also got sick after a while. Our friend died and his wife went back to haiti and also died. Very sad shit. She was guilty of nothing. He endangered her life. To be fair because of his minimal understanding he did not think he was endangering his wife. But if you are the victim of this endangerment, I' m not going to say you have a character fault when someone endangered you with a disease.
