"Choose Me" -- a song featured in the Netflix original movie "KATE" and the HBO Max series Peacemaker as BAND MAID, has so many great RnR chops, it's kinda unbelievable. From Saiki's old-school phrasing, cadence and a super soulful vocal at the end; MISA's driving bass, her special riff after Kanami's brilliant, rocking main solo (complete with harmonic pinch), and her pulls at the end of the song that really funks it up with Akane's drumming; to Kanami's original composition, off-beat octave stretches during the verses, and her addition of a second uncomplicated yet super tasty solo; to Akane's unique snare & tom flurry that launches the choruses; and to Miku's octave-down, in & out vocal backup and lyrics... all makes "Choose Me" a throwback rocker that surprised me when I first heard it - and I'll bet most anyone - that they would come up with this western-style, rock 'n roll classic. Of course, after years later, it's not surprising at all coming from this important band of geniuses who are, along with The Warning band, almost single-handedly bringing back the joy of rock. Here's a great live MV of "Choose Me" that's not quite as punchy do to the mix, but still good: ruclips.net/video/HcqitbXgigU/видео.html Thx, Frank!
Thank you for all that information. I love hearing about all the minute details like that. I am not well versed in music theory myself to come anywhere close, but it's always interesting to read things like that. The Warning! What a band! Only dipped my toe into that ocean, and I'm looking forward to continuing the journey. I'll for sure check out the live version you linked.
I have a huge fondness for this song, it was the first I ever heard from a group of Japanese Maids who I've joyously come to learn can wipe any rock outfit off the stage, I'm oh so happily addicted to these amazing Rock Goddesses Po 👍🍻🍻🍻🍻
Definitely the Band that got me into Japanese music and understanding I could really enjoy an all female rock or metal band because we didn't have any growing up.
I probably had listened to some Pizzicato 5 and some other Japanese bands before, but like you Band-Maid might have been the first Japanese rock band that drew me in.
Kanami is the guitarist on solo. The another guitarist is Miku. Miku is an organizer of this band, and started playing guitar after organizing the band. Kanami is her teacher.
Thank you for that information! ❤️ I ALWAYS appreciate when you teach me stuff, so please continue. I also need to set up a system for myself, so I remember all of this, cause my brain for sure isn't doing anything to help. 🤣😉
Frank , Thanks for continuing down the BAND-MAID Pigeon hole , Yes Thrill was there first MV , I think why it was so plain cause if it didn`t do good there label was going to drop them .
Coming from a synth-pop background, I never really listened to guitar prominence. I mean, almost everyone in my old country can play rhythm. It wasn’t until Band-Maid that I fell in love with lead guitar elements and the lead guitar solo in particular. 🙂
Well, I did listen to a lot of Depeche Mode back in the days. And since they could go the guitar route, then I thought I could do the same. 😉😁🤘❤️ Guitar solos are nice, but they need to be done right. Band-Maid does it right!
Between Choose Me, Bubble, Manners, Blooming, Honkai and Puzzle, I can't decide which is my No1 Band Maid song. And the more I listen to Forbidden Tale, that song may enter the group. What a lovely dilemma I have. Lol!! I recommend you react to these songs if you haven't already.
Forbidden Tale hit me right in the feels. Other than that, Choose me, is the only one I can remember on the top of my head now. And 100% those songs goes on the list. BTW, here's my Forbidden Tale reaction, if you want to check it out: ruclips.net/video/yMsB3jWWRC8/видео.html
OK? That came out from left field 😉 I hope it means you like my voice, and if so thank you for that. But I need to talk much more clearly to read an audiobook, and it's something I'm thinking about and will try to improve going forward. I've also started doing some audio editing on my never videos, so hopefully the sound should be even clearer on my last videos. And I hope you will check them out while you're here. 🤘❤️
Some Japanese groups/artists, old and new, mostly Hard Rock or Metal. I don’t know if it is just me but some of their songs sound the same, similar structure and sound, I like the band in small doses, they are a little different to other bands but a little variety wouldn’t go astray. Just an opinion.
I think that is true. But they do have some excellent songs and everything they play sounds beautiful. They are fantastic live. They played for 2 hours.
Opinions are welcomed here, as long as they are constructive and based in reality. I haven't really noticed that yet, but I'll be sure to try to keep it in the back of my mind when I listen to more from Band-Maid going forward. ❤️🤘 PS! I just remembered Forbidden Tale and I feel that is very different from other songs I've heard from them. Since that's a new song, maybe it's pointing in a direction with more variety?
@@FranksReactions it has worked for AC/DC for 50 years, 😂😂 and I only have 2 AC/DC records, High Voltage and Back in Black. Sometimes it works to keep things similar as most people don’t like change, not just music but life in general.
@@whitedrguy6503 Yeah. You listen to a band because you like the music, so if they change it up completely for the next record, it will be strange. But I'm all for growth and expanding, but yeah, bands should also be consistent.

They do be good!
@@FranksReactions That they do!
Don't try to define BAND-MAID, they define themselves.
Let's just define them as a great band.

I probably had listened to some Pizzicato 5 and some other Japanese bands before, but like you Band-Maid might have been the first Japanese rock band that drew me in.
Rock it out, Frank! Who can blame you? 😂🤘
I hope no one 😉 And yeah, I need to rock out all I can.
楽しいですね〜〜〜😊
It is REALLY fun!
A juggernaut of a band!
They sure are. Tiny juggernauts, but juggernauts none the less.

It's a pleasure to keep going down this hole. I enjoy it a lot, so I will continue doing it for a good while.
Of course I choose Band Maid!!!
That's a great choice!
As a comparison, have a look at the acoustic solo version of just Saiki alone on stage playing the piano, at the Yokohama concert. Truly amazing.
Thank you for that suggestion! I will definitely check that out.
