Have you ever listened to Robin Trower? I think you might appreciate his stuff especially with Dewar on vocals. BRIDGE OF SIGHS might be a good place to start. Guitar virtuoso .
Incredible band, and Palmer does a great job of their song Sailin’ Shoes here. Awesome medley, the Meters with Lowell George sliding it up for you, rock solid. Little Feat rock!
I'm so glad you listened to the trilogy and heard "Sally" in her original context. This trilogy of songs evokes a special period of my life during my 20s (a mere 40 years ago).
I remember in 2018 I was living in a tiny cabin in the woods the first time I heard this trilogy. I had built all my furniture with scrap wood and made a piece of furniture to hold all my mom's old records, as I had finally bought a record player of my own. Hearing these transitions made me gain SOOOO much respect for Robert Palmer, it was life-changing. These three songs plus Pressure Drop are my ultimate favorites of his. So glad this 3 song transition is getting the reaction and respect it deserves.
Oh Jamel, you bringing back some great memories. My Dad turned me on to Robert Palmer many years ago. He put this record on and said, “Damn, don’t this music make you want to dance?” Hell yeah! ❤
PLEASE do Robert Palmer’s Every Kinda People (studio version) if you haven’t yet. It’s got an amazing groove and an amazing message which totally aligns with your values that you talk about on this channel all the time. I know you’d love it. It was his biggest hit before his 80s stuff.
Three great songs written by three great songwriters: Lowell George of Little Feat wrote Sailin' Shoes, Robert wrote Hey Julia and legendary New Orleans music maestro Allen Toussaint wrote Sneakin' Sally Through The Alley.
Glad you have discovered Robert Palmer's earlier, over-shadowed, work. Now for some more... "Every Kinda People", "Man Smart, Woman Smarter", "One Last Look", "Spanish Moon", "Some People Can Do What They Like", "Give Me An Inch", "Work To Make It Work", "Pressure Drop", "Trouble", "Bad Case Of Loving You (Doctor, Doctor)", etc. etc.. Also, his cover of Marvin Gaye's "Mercy, Mercy Me" and "I Want You" in a single song is something amazing.
That groove and funk was provided (mostly) by a NOLA based outfit called the Meters, along with slide guitar from Little Feat's Lowell George. Great band in the studio with a great singer that produced a great record. So many acts got wider exposure through MTV videos in the 80s with material that wasn't their best. J. Geils and ZZ Top come to mind.
The tragedy of Robert Palmer is that when his song, "Addicted to Love", came out no one wanted to hear anything else from him! "Addicted to Love" was the song that put him on the map, but he was no one-hit wonder. Robert's entire catalog of music needs to be listened to in order to understand and appreciate the diversity of this man's music.
Blue eyed soul man we lost too soon. One of the few performers I shed tears for upon learning of their death. Possibly the best live performance i was privileged to see...and I saw a lot!
Couldn't agree more. I bought "Sneakin Sally through the Alley" after hearing side one on late night radio in the mid 70's. Kept trying to turn my friends on to him... Then he exploded in the 80's, but to me the music wasn't as good. Didn't hurt to have Little Feat as a backing band on this album either...
I remember when this trilogy used to be played fairly often on the radio in St Louis on KSHE-95! Try to imagine ANY radio station playing a song over 7minutes long like this today! It would never happen, which is so sad! Robert Palmer was in a league of his own. He exemplified the smooth, classy Rock Star. I was blessed to have seen him live on the Riptide tour. Blew me away. He was taken far too young!
Agreed, grew up listening to Real Rock Radio KSHE-95, still listening to this day. Your right, they were not afraid to play an 18 minute song either. That station opened my eyes and ears to some great music.
I wore this cassette OUT when it first came out! Robert Palmer, another killer blue eyed soul singer. A damn shame he died so young. But we've still got this!!
Now you got it right. Sailin’ Shoes was written by Lowell George( on slide guitar )and performed by George’s band Little Feat. BTW more Little Feat. George was a great slide guitarist, singer and writer. Both he and Robert Palmer are missed.
You would LOVE his song "Every Kind oF People"...it goes perfect with your Just be A Good Human ethos! "Bad Case Of Loving You (Doctor, Doctor)" and I Didnt mean To Turn You On" are 2 of my other favorite Palmer songs. You should also check out some of his hits with Power Station (him and members of Duran Duran).
Now that' the way to listen to the trilogy of Robert Palmer. So many songs in the 70's are the same way. Great song(s), my personal favorite by the late great Robert Palmer. Much too young.
This is one of my favorite records of all time. Robert Palmer was amazing. "Some People Can Do What They Like" is also an amazing album, and also a great song. Early Robert Palmer is really the Sh*t. I literally just found out last week that my neighbor used to be a roadie for him.
GOOD MORNING! What a way to get going on a Monday. THANK YOU for putting this full trilogy out for more people to enjoy. You are doing an awesome job of keeping the music alive. Needless to say, more Little Feat is always a good thing. This just touches on the genius that was Lowell George.
This medley is such an energetic expression of pure joy! I have been listening to it since my teen years, in the late 1970s, and I never tire of it. Thank you for reacting to this! ---OronOfMontreal
Have you heard him with Power Station? Palmer on vocals, bassist and guitar from Duran Duran and the drummer from Chic. Odd lineup on paper but man do they pound it out!
The Power Station, and the Power Station sound Palmer basically stole for his next two albums, I find extraordinarily stale, overplayed, and the reason I'd missed out the vast, eclectic and amazing rest of his catalog and absolute talent, recorded before and after, for many years.
Takes me back to the 1970s when I lived in New Orleans. Stuff like this was available at small bars and old movie theatres most weeknights, and cheap too. I saw the Meters for a Five Dollar Cover charge one Wednesday night. I don't know how I got through work the next day without falling asleep and crashing the company truck. Stay safe!
So good to come across this--what an antidote to the day's annoyances! Seeing you jam and move to the groove is a tonic! I pray you and your family are smiled upon by the Lord and blessed manifold always. 🙏❤️ You have brought joy and inspiration to so many of us all over the world! Gratitude and respect, Sir.
Keep great music alive...Jamel, I already told you this one. Little Feat was Robert Palmer's backup band on Pressure Drop. On this trilogy, you got the late great Lowell George on the slide guitar on Sneakin Sally Through the Alley. The musical groove between Palmer and Little Feat was beyond legendary. Not enough is said about Lowell George. He is one of the greatest slide guitarists who ever lived.
Sailin' Shoes was originally by "Lonesome" Lowell George and his band, Little Feat....check them out!! My bet is you won't be disappointed! ;) Lots of GREAT live performances out there!
As mentioned in other comments, Sailin’ Shoes was written and recorded by Lowell George and Little Feat. Little Feat have a deep catalog of song well worth exploring. A great start would be most any song on the Waiting for Columbus double lp. Fat Man in the Bathtub, Oh Atlanta, Time Loves a Hero, and my favorite Spanish Moon.
Just discovered you this morning Jamal. You make me smile.I love your show! So much fun with so much great music from when I was young. Robert Palmer was such a cool, smooth, talented guy. Thanks for reminding me what a wonderful song is. Got me dancing in my kitchen at 5 o’clock in the morning :-)
AN ABSOLUTE MUST HEAR..Robert Was A Big Fan Of Marvin Gaye & Wanted To Do A Tribute,, But It Would Take Him Years Because He Insisted That It Be ABSOLUTELY Respectful Of His Work & Memory,, This Is The Result,, ROBERT PALMER "MERCY MERCY ME/I WANT YOU"..A Combination Of 2 Classic Marvin Gaye Songs..R.I.P. Marvin & Robert
I’m actually damn proud of you for finding one of the most underrated blue-eyed soul voices of the 70s. Toss out his 80s pop songs of commercial success everyone knows. Robert Palmer was a stone cold pimp in the 70s. That was his peak. I highly, HIGHLY, recommend checkin out a hidden gem called “Here With You Tonight” from his second album Pressure Drop. You won’t be disappointed.
This medley is one of my favorite pieces of music on the planet. It reminds me of Lou Rawls' live version of World of Trouble, tho this is oodles funkier. This whole album is a masterpiece. Enjoy!
Now THAT is how you listen to Sneakin’ Through the Alley with Sally! I so appreciate you going back to do this; one of my all-time favorites! You’re a Good Human and King of the Chair Dance! Keep the good vibes comin’ and like others have suggested, listen to studio version of Every Kinda People. This brutha’s got soul!
I know I’m late to the party, but I want to give you a thumbs up for this presentation. The two albums that this is from, pressure drop, and sneaking Sally through the alley are both over 50 years old. The beauty of a channel like yours gives the opportunity for a wide range of people to listen to and enjoy music like this. Is this new to me ? Hell no I was 24 years old when his came out, but I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of your subscribers weren’t even born that time. Any, good work sir 👍
Great that you listened to Robert Palmer. I think you should listen to his cover of the Gap Band's "Early in the Morning"! He was a one of a kind singer my second favorite behind Mr.Bill Withers!
For the first and last song of this trio, the backing band is Lowell George of Little Feat with the Meters!! Hey Julia (song #2) is the New York rhythm section - basically Stuff with Purdie on drums instead of Steve Gadd. This has to be one of the funkiest trio of tunes ever.
He had a bad heart, right from childhood, and eventually, it did for him. Born with a hole in the heart, operated for it, but he was never quite right. Plus, he was a chain smoker, which didn't help. I met him while he was in Vinegar Joe. Lovely man, very passionate about his music, musicians. He went to Africa to do some research into African rhythms, and for his health, and we lost touch. He was just so good.
@Lynne Connolly. Thank you for your interesting information on Robert Palmer. I vaguely recall reading that he spent a large part of his early life living outside the UK because his dad in the armed forces. (stationed in Malta maybe?). Plus - with you telling of Robert's trips to Africa, he seemed to pull on many different musical influences. I read that he was dubbed "a musicologist". Just after Robert's untimely death, I read an interview with Elkie Brooks. She talked glowingly of her time in Vinegar Joe with Robert. Elkie's son - also her manager had been in contact with Robert. There was a possibility that they would work together again. Unfortunately Robert passed before any musical collaboration was possible. He is sorely missed. You and yours stay safe and well.
I wore out this album back in the day. Doctor Doctor (bad Case of Loving You), Every Kind of People others to check out by him. Also, check out Little Feat. He was working with Lowell George from Little Feat on this one. I think you reacted to one of their songs. Check out Two Trains and Spanish Moon. Sailing Shoes is one of their songs. Cheers
Jamel, Robert Palmer is one of my All Time Favorite Artists! Check out his cover of the Marvin Gaye classic songs combined into one song, "Mercy, Mercy, Me" and "I Want You" on The Arsenio Hall Show. Thank You For Keeping Great Music Alive! Much Love & Respect. Take Care. ✌

Have you ever listened to Robin Trower? I think you might appreciate his stuff especially with Dewar on vocals. BRIDGE OF SIGHS might be a good place to start. Guitar virtuoso .
Give the band Little Feat a big hug and Lowell George and friends for helping Robert with this album!
Yes!!! Love that band
Going to see Little Feat live in a month!
Love me some Feats!! Old folks boogie...
If y'all like this trilogy... Check little feat feats don't fail me now. Cold, cold, cold..
Incredible band, and Palmer does a great job of their song Sailin’ Shoes here. Awesome medley, the Meters with Lowell George sliding it up for you, rock solid. Little Feat rock!
Sailin Shoes was written by the late grate Lowell George and performed by his band, Little Feat.
Of which Robert Palmer was a member for a while.
Learn something new all the time.. Have little feet... And knew palmer was with tower of power!!! But wow!
I'm so glad you listened to the trilogy and heard "Sally" in her original context. This trilogy of songs evokes a special period of my life during my 20s (a mere 40 years ago).

That is an awesome song…Robert Palmer was the original blue eyed soul singer for me…😍🥰RIP Robert Palmer
You will love this one Jamel.
"There's no profit in deceit
Honest men know that
Revenge does not taste sweet
Whether yellow, black or white
Each and every man's the same inside..."
This one is great, Jamel, you should check it out!
I love the entire Double Fun album.
Three great songs written by three great songwriters: Lowell George of Little Feat wrote Sailin' Shoes, Robert wrote Hey Julia and legendary New Orleans music maestro Allen Toussaint wrote Sneakin' Sally Through The Alley.

I thought I heard me some Lowell in there! Thanks for that bit
The Meters did "Cissy Strut", an alltime great funk instrumental.
Sneaking Sally by the great Allen Toussaint who worked with the Funky Meters all the time
Didn't the Meters do Sophisticated Sissy?
Robert Palmer I Didn’t Mean To Turn You On is a great song 😎
Back when the video came out, a friend of mine watched it and said, "Well, Robert, just what were you TRYING to do instead?" :-D
Written by the great Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis
He did a great mix of two Marvin Gaye Songs "Mercy Mercy Me / I Want You" that show off the soulfulness and power of his voice.
@EAT SOAP Me too...
Not a tragedy, when Addicted came out I was thinking that he was finally gonna get paid for all his past work. I was really happy for him.
Blue eyed soul man we lost too soon. One of the few performers I shed tears for upon learning of their death. Possibly the best live performance i was privileged to see...and I saw a lot!
He died at 54 of a heart attack. THAT was the tragedy.
Couldn't agree more. I bought "Sneakin Sally through the Alley" after hearing side one on late night radio in the mid 70's. Kept trying to turn my friends on to him... Grew up listening to KSHE as well. They introduced me to this fantastic trilogy as well as many other great deep cuts.
I wore this cassette OUT when it first came out! Robert Palmer, another killer blue eyed soul singer. A damn shame he died so young. But we've still got this!!
With you Linda! I wore out an album at home and cassette in the car
ROBERT PALMER "EVERY KINDA PEOPLE"..A MUST HEAR CLASSIC WITH AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR US ALL.
I couldn't believe how good this album was when I first heard it.
No kidding, it's really slept on.
One of my favorites of all time.
Now you got it right. Sailin’ Shoes was written by Lowell George( on slide guitar )and performed by George’s band Little Feat. BTW more Little Feat. George was a great slide guitarist, singer and writer. Both he and Robert Palmer are missed.

This album and this trilogy in particular is a merging of Little Feat & The Meters!
This is one of my favorite records of all time. Robert Palmer was amazing. "Some People Can Do What They Like" is also an amazing album, and also a great song. Early Robert Palmer is really the Sh*t. I literally just found out last week that my neighbor used to be a roadie for him.
I love this so much! His music before the eighties was oh, so great. A musician's musician!
Wow! Thank you! Still remember every single word. This is a master piece. RIP Robert Palmer. Love it ❤
Holy trinity. This man xxx
GOOD MORNING! What a way to get going on a Monday. THANK YOU for putting this full trilogy out for more people to enjoy. You are doing an awesome job of keeping the music alive. Needless to say, more Little Feat is always a good thing. This just touches on the genius that was Lowell George.
This Trilogy is Classic! One of my "get ready to dance" songs.
Brings to mind the Great performance by Leon Russell of Jumping Jack Flash/Young Blood at the Concert for Bangladesh! Epic.
That would be an amazing reaction to do!
Beware of Darkness.
I'm diggin it that you are diggin it!!!
Robert Palmer is one of my favorite performers ~ so incredibly talented ! Had the pleasure of seeing him twice ~ sure do miss his Smooth Style ~
This medley is such an energetic expression of pure joy! I have been listening to it since my teen years, in the late 1970s, and I never tire of it.

His early stuff, was his best stuff. Trilogy is arguably his best. R.I.P.
So you love what we used to listen to...😂❤ im still rockin to this at age 65!

I'm so glad you listened to the Robert Palmer Trilogy, Jamel. It's one of my favorites from him. Which I can see you definitely enjoyed.
This was so much better than addicted to love.
Thanks so much for doing this trilogy! Cant get enough of Robert Palmer. Glad you enjoyed it.
With Little Feat as your backing band, you can’t go too far wrong! Loved Vinegar Joe and solo Robert………
Keep great music alive...Jamel, I already told you this one. Little Feat was Robert Palmer's backup band on Pressure Drop. Yes every kind of people

OMG!! Thank you thank you!! Have been requesting this for months! Ain’t it just the Sh?!?
Another good one is "Bad Case of Lovin' You", more of a straight ahead rocker.
It's so much fun to see someone discover and enjoy something we've been jamming to for years 😁
You need to here Robert when started to play with the Caribbean Sounds in his music!
Best three song transition EVER! Love Roberts' music, so sad to lose him so early, great, soulful talent.
Sailing shoes is by Lowell George from Little Feat he's playing guitar on this album

Thank You For Keeping Great Music Alive!

"Sneaking Sally Through The Alley" was originally recorded by Robert Parker, whose biggest hit was "Barefootin'".
Now THAT is how YOU keep GREAT MUSIC ALIVE!!! Thank You Jamel.

Merry Christmas to you and your brothers too.
