I remember back in the early seventies that's how they did this song on progressive/aor stations. It was really cool and it turned me into a little feat fan.
New Orleans finest " The Meters" and Lowell George(Little Feat) are the band on this album. As a drummer " The Meters" track "Cissy Strut" !!!( Circa 69!) Is mandatory listening!! Funky with a Capitol F 🔥
"Sailin' Shoes" has become your first taste of Little Feat. Anything off Waiting for Columbus would be a good follow-up - my forever favorite is "Fat Man in the Bathtub," and there's some real magic in "Dixie Chicken" and "Tripe Face Boogie" taken together.
The Rockpalast recording of Dixie Chicken and Tripe Face Boogie from the 'Columbus' tour is available on You Tube and is, to my mind, better than then the album version. That said, I have a soft spot for Columbus as I was at all the London gigs on the tour, some of which went on to the album.
Just my opinion but just about all the recordings on the Little Feat "Waiting for Columbus" album are better than the studio versions. I highly recommend "Dixie Chicken" from that album. Also, the Robert Palmer album this cut is from is a really good album too.
Robert Palmer is really underrated. Great musician with a big repertoire. Listen to "best of both world" , "every kind a people" or "give me an inch ... all from the seventies. Or something from the 80ies like "John and Mary", "I didn't mean to turn you on" or "mercy mery me"
Little Feat is a must listen for you. One of the great underrated bands out there. Fat Man in the BathTub, Cold Cold Cold, Skin it Back is a personal Favorite. They are like the Meters, people just underestimate how much impact they really had.

I'm from the uk and my ex was a huge fan - I remember meeting him at a bus station the day Lowell George's death was in the papers and he was so stunned, just sitting silently with the paper on the bench. Very very sad. Brilliant band. RIP Lowell. xx PS just to say also rated Robert Palmer. The smooth-dressing rock guy!
The amazing band playing on this suite is the Meters with Lowell George. Top notch musicians and for Palmer to throw down these amazing vocals with this talent around you and not be intimidated is pretty awesome- his debut lp. And covering Little Feats Sailin’ Shoes with LG in da house, props to Palmer 🎶🎵🎶
In 1978 I saw Robert Palmer in a San Francisco club and he was all that I had hoped for. I love his funky stuff his stuff here with Lowell George and also The Meters
Yes, that was Robert Palmer singing. He had such a great voice! He was collaborating with Lowell George from Little Feat on this album. Little Feat is the next band you should check out. Sailing Shoes was one of their songs. Fat Man in the Bathtub, Two Trains, Dixie Chicken amongst others to check out. ✌🇨🇦
This album was part of his NOLA funk stage. He's got George Porter Jr. And other NOLA royalty on this album. Recorded in the studios od the great Allen Toussaint
"Some Like It Hot" and "Get It On (Bang A Gong)" from the supergroup Robert Palmer was in The Power Station. The group also included the drummer from Chic and the bass and guitar player from Duran Duran. Also please react to Duran Duran.
Just like so many other favorites of mine from this era, Palmer went full commercial. Unlike Little Feat, who stuck to their sound and didn't go from blues, funk folk to Pop music. ZZ Top also went commercial, but their old blues are damn hard to beat.
Every time I hear Robert Palmer I say to myself I have to listen to more Robert Palmer! I always enjoy what I hear. He's a very talented vocalist most noticeable with his phrasing , intonation, and skatting around the rhythm of the songs. Plus it's Funk Rock! What's not to love? He sheds off charisma and in his videos he generally appears to be really enjoying himself. Also he looks like David Bowies brother which is cool because Robert Palmer is, if anything; is very cool. RIP Robert.
Sneakin Sally through the Alley was Robert's debut album. There are some really great songs on this album besides the 3 song montage. Check out- From a Whisper to a Scream, Get Outside, and Through it all There's You.
Legend Robert Palmer! Doctor Doctor (Bad Case of Loving You), Every Kind of People, and his work with Power Station (any of the songs on the one album they recorded will be fun), these are all great ones to check out.
Robert Palmer had a series of 80s hits that were more pop-rock but were well produced songs, and his voice is always a winner. Please check out Little Feat who backed him on this record, and also backed Bonnie Raitt on some of her early 70s work. Little Feat HAS to be taken Live. So much energy and fun on the live recordings!
It's a short album, from memory, maybe 35 minutes. Definitely worth a listen all the way through. Steve Winwood plays on the last track. Confession: if I hear any of the first three songs on their own, I have to play the album all the way through. It's not optional.

I'm planning to go through his whole discography on Spotify but coincidentally right now I'm going through David Bowie's early stuff, another sharp dressed singer who has tried many genres of music and kept being interesting throughout.
You're getting lots of suggestions about Fat Man In The Bathtub. THE definitive version is off the Waiting For Columbus album. Also, several members of Little Feat are playing on this medley. Thanks for doing it.

Here with You Tonight is fantastic. Must listen. The last track on this album is a killer funk jam called Through It All There’s You. Another one to check out, for sure. Oh…and Spanish Moon. Yes sir.
Nice one, Chod! A number of reactors have done Palmer's 80's hits but almost no one digs into this gem of a debut solo album. Look into the backing musicians on this LP - it's insane! Sailin' Shoes is originally by Little Feat - who you would probably love - and Lowell George from that group plays guitar here. Please check out their album "Feats Don't Fail Me Now" (maybe Oh, Atlanta?) and then the excellent live album "Waiting For Columbus" (maybe Spanish Moon? Dixie Chicken? Fat Man In The Bathtub? So many choices!) Great reaction - can't wait to hear some Feat!
Spanish Moon! I mean, you can't really go wrong...but I figure Spanish Moon would really get Chod going. Fat Man in the Bathtub would be my 2nd rec from that album.
The CD/digital version has unintended breaks between the three songs to create separate tracks. The vinyl is non-stop throughout the three tunes... no breaks. It was recorded together as a single suite made up of the three songs.
Ah- blue- eyed soul from England! Not a big fan back then (guitar- light), but I always thought that Sneaking Sally through the Alley was the BEST album title ever... and Robert's voice: perfect. btw the next best album title - tied-was 10 years later- Born to Laugh at Tornados by Was (not Was).
Google what Daryl Hall said about being labeled blue eyed soul. He went off big time. He and John Oates played the Uptown in Philly and were one of the few white acts that brought the house down.
I own this album To me though the best Robert Palmer album is called Honey from 1994 He was also in 3 different bands and a Super group Dada The Madrakes. And the super group called The Power Station 🚉
On the album, these three flow seamlessly right into one another, I think the short blip between them you hear is from the youtube playlist or whatever source you use. The rest of the album is separate songs. But this "medley" are the first three songs from the very first album of his solo career, before his fame, so what a great start! Production on this album is leaner than his later stuff, so his raw talent really comes through. Glad you enjoyed!
“Sailin’ Shoes” is a Little Feat song and this was a great cover. If you check out the Feat it HAS to be live. I’ve seen them three times and to me they are at their best on stage. Mercenary Territory or Fat Man in the Bathtub off of Waiting For Columbus would be a good place to start.
Studio Mecenary is way better. If you had said Spanish Moon I might agree. I don't think a vast majority of people here have ever listened to Little Feat's studio albums. All they know is Waiting for Columbus. It's good but their studio work can more than stand up on it's own. Plus if Waiting for Columbus is all you know of Little Feat....you're missing the gunboat(you rats).

Back when this was new, the local FM station had an Album Oriented Rock format. They used to always play these three songs together. Years later, I wanted some Robert Palmer music so I got a greatest hits album by Robert and this album for these three songs. I did not realize the Greatest Hits album had these three songs in order flowing into each other like the album. It was a good album, so no problem.
When I was listening to this a lot, I owned the vinyl, I would also play a song called Strange Affair by Help Yourself. What can I say, I live in Anchorage Alaska and there was a watering hole called The Fly By Night Club which advertised itself as a sleezy bar in Spenard, turn left after the 3rd hooker in bunny boots.
Love Robert Palmers funk. But as many others have already suggested give a listen to Little Feats version. Betcha keep listening to the rest of the album.
I knew you would like these songs played together. I agree with others that Little Feat (Waiting for Columbus Album) is something you should explore. I would suggest Dixie Chicken/Tripe Faced Boogie played through as one song just as you did with Robert Palmer here. ruclips.net/video/MWnkCffNlWE/видео.html

LOVE this period of RP's music. Some badass groovy genius. As much fun now as it was then! Rolling Stone record guide- if you were cool, you had it- called his music white soul for snobs!!bahahahaha!!
Far Man in the Bathtub by Little Feat has to be next....SO much fun and a great groove.
Obviously not.
that's a fantastic cover no doubt, but ya gotta check out "Little Feat" your favourite bands favourite band!
preferably live and once you do you'll know why 8).
Great reaction 😀👍❤️✌️🌼
Love this record. Thanks.
Love Robert Palmers funk. But as many others have already suggested give a listen to Little Feats version. Betcha keep listening to the rest of the album.
Finally..somebody reacted to this classic
from the mid 70's..Now some Black Oak Arkansas...-Jim Dandy.
That's the Funky Meters giving you that NOLA funk
I knew you would like these songs played together. I agree with others that Little Feat (Waiting for Columbus Album) is something you should explore. I would suggest Dixie Chicken/Tripe Faced Boogie played through as one song just as you did with Robert Palmer here. ruclips.net/video/MWnkCffNlWE/видео.html
That medley is an absolute must for a musician , like Chod, to hear live and in ite entirety.
Their entire CATALOG is worthy of his ears...but apparently he don't listen to us.
You were smart to do this. First time I have ssen anyone do this great medley. Great choice!
Yes. Thank you for this. Nine minutes of funky goodness.
Thanks for this ,
Do original Sailin Shoe by Little Feat along with Dixie Chicken and Fat Man in the Bathtub
Lowell George. Little Feat song. I'm not a paying member but do yourself a favor and check out Little Feat's "Spanish Moon" from the Waiting for Columbus Live Album. It has everything you love. Are you beginning to understand why we boomers are so critical of today's music?
There are so many live and studio, but this guy must be to busy to check out Little Feat
@@plantfeeder6677 True. He just doesn't know what he's missing.
