*_before you write a comment regarding the scale factor, please notice the following_*
*1)* we know, the A-6 has no afterburner
*2)* based on the weight limitation of 30 Kg, only one turbine is installed. the exhaust of the turbine is located in the center of the fuselage.

First off, visually this is an excellent scale reproduction of an A6 Intruder. I noted there were some compromises made, probably due to weight, but given that, it's still quite good. A few things I noted that have been done different in comparison to an actual Intruder. First, the flaps in the RC model are too small length-wise. In the actual article, the flaps extend from the root out to the clamshell-style wingtip speed brakes. It also has leading edge slats, from wing root to wing tip. The horizontal stabilators (elevators) in the tail in the real article are all-moving slabs, not a conventional elevator as done with the RC version. That being said, your choice was an excellent one for flying characteristics as going to a slab stabilator would probably be too effective unless you restrict deflection to a very few degrees. Finally, while I can't tell if the RC uses ailerons, the real article does not. It uses spoilers on each wing, located just forward of the flaps, and are of the same width from wing root to speed brake as the flaps. The stabilators move differentially to create a roll moment and the spoilers are also used to make the aircraft roll.
During landing on ship, the pilots would leave the engines spooled up a bit (because it took 8 seconds to spool!) and use the speed brakes to control their speed. Those retract much faster than the engines can spool. For fun, you might want to experiment a little with having partially open speed brakes on landing, set the throtte to barely maintain level flight, and see if controlling landing speed is easier with the speed brakes than the engine.
I'm not an A6 driver, but my dad was. I have to say that I'm still amazed at how well this RC model flies and how good it looks!
Visually, for me the nose, cockpit area of the fuselage are off, then the tail section appears to slim when compared to the real A6.
Wheels and landing gear struts should be painted white for USN & USMC. Awesome model. EA-6B next?
RCScaleAirplanes Who cares it's a beautiful airplane
Very clever how the exhuast pipe is faired into the fuselage.
I was an A-6 mechanic. Watching this video brought back some pretty cool memories. I was impressed that you had working speed brakes on this RC. Great attention to detail. My old squadron was VA-205. The amount of ordinance this aircraft was capable to carry is nothing short of amazing. Thanks again.
bkrguy _Thank you for your kind comments. I'm very glad to know that you liked watching the video._
Have a nice day 😎
What an impressive build. Looks very real at those camera angles. and the details on everything is incredible. Pilot must have put lot of work into it. Flown beautifully too
alishanmao _Thank you for your kind comments, Ali._
Nice to see you here !!!
I was an A-6 mechanic for 8 years and I love that someone else is as fond of the aircraft as I am.
I,m with you,I was an A6 mechanic in VA-85.I will never forget them and always liked its design and functions.

The detail is amazing, the pilots look so real
That landing was awesome!!!! Love that plane.
Garry Kennedy _Thank you for your kind comments, Garry. Much appreciated !_
That is a really great model! Thanx for sharing. I worked on the A6 in the USMC, and watching this fly brought back some good memories! Thanx
Great flight. Nice bird and thew pilot did a Great job at flying it scale and smooth..
From 1987 to 1990, I worked on this jet as an Aviation Ordnance Technician. And I am VERY impressed with the authenticity and attention to detail this aircraft provides.
And by the way, how did you get the engines to sound so realistic? WELL DONE.
_Thank you for your kind comment, Andrew._
Since the mid 90s there are miniature jet engines for R/C models on the market. Please have a look at the video description and follow the link to JetCat and also to the picture gallery of how this model has been built.
There are models that stop the time ... and become classics .... A-6 Intruder is one of them.
Thanks a lot dear Horst !
Josip Vrandecic _You're right, Josip. This is a very rare Rc aircraft and I'm happy that I was able to do a video of it._
Thank you for your kind comments!
That's really great but it needs to be done in the dark or bad weather when nobody else is flying cause that's how we did it...
That landing though, wow. Even more though, that model is brilliant, i find it hard to believe someone build that it is so detailed
Hands down one of the most detailed, realistic RCs out there. Just wow! 😂
Hiaruga *_Thank you for the compliments. Much appreciated._* 👍😎
Incredible plane! One of my old favorites that the Navy used. Great job
The taxiing segment, I couldn't tell it was a model.
I remember that number(152941) as an old A6A when I was in VA-128 from 71-74
Beautiful A-6 and very nice scale flight by Laurent! Again, what a gorgeous place to fly and film sweet aircraft Horst! It sounded windy and looked hot so hope you did't burn you knees on the runway for the awesome close and low shots lol! Excellent camerawork and video as always Horst! Danke and a BIG A-6 thumbs up! Cheers Horst!
P.S. I don't think there was an A-6 afterburner turbofan version lol!
The Fred Baron RC _Yes ... it was hot and windy, but my knees are still O.K._ 😂
Glad to hear that you liked the video. You're right. The A-6 doesn't have afterburner. This is something, the owner has to change.
_Thank you for your kind comments, my friend. Cheers, Horst_
I like your video very much. It's really great. I'll keep an eye on your channel. I am your fan and I will support you.
_Thank you very much !!!_
wow! thought it was Real!!! such great detail & flying qualities!!!
me too at the beggining
Awesome! Amazing engine sound. We have come so far from the days of only having exposed propeller model engines.
After a long day at work, watching these videos is so relaxing. Thank you for sharing :-)

I loved the movie: "Flight of the Intruder"...
The Angry Bass _Thanks for watching and commenting._
I spent 3 years in VA-34 with A-6E's. This model is the closest I've ever seen to the real thing! Of course there are the differences noted such as no after burner, but still an amazing model of the real A-6! My compliments to Mr. Chaperon for an outstanding build of a great A/C!
Impressive....liked the operational wing tip flaps. The visible heat haze from the jet exhaust is so much like the real deal. The only thing is the afterburner led ring which was maybe not needed or can be reduced in intensity.
Congratulations on a beautifully filmed, beautifully flown, and last but not least a wonderful effort to recreate the A6 for RC. I loved it. Clever engine installation idea. It works!
Wow! The build is absolutely incredible and amazingly accurate! It was hard to believe it was RC. It was also flown brilliantly, especially considering the tight airspace.
Just fun to see something that someone made. What a treat!
_Thank you for your kind comments._ 👍😉
Great video, I was a hydraulic mechanic with VMA-224 in 1969, this brought back some fond memories
Thank you for watching and commenting. Glad you enjoyed it !
That is a really stunning plane my friend . Very well done . Now forgetting the fact that that a6 was never fitted with reheat , as you quite rightly have pointed out , that take was actually impressive in its own right , even using the never fitted reheat . However if your going for true scale , which is as it seem's , it was a little short , and the taxying is a bit quick . Taking that a little further , and maybe someone can correct me on this because i'm not totally sure , as the a6 is fitted with powerful modern hydraulic's , arn't they powerful enough to lift the main's together in unison ? . Anyway , very well done my friend , a very impressive model with a realistic sound .
Magnificent model, and beautiful angles Horst... loved the oleo on the nose wheel compress as it stopped in front of you, so realistic! Excellent work by all!
Tach Horst,
When I saw the thumbnail, I thought: Why is there a vintage jet video, I usually don't watch those? Then I saw "RCScaleAirplanes" and became aware that it's a RC model 🙃
Very nicely captured 👍
M0rdH0rst *_Thank you very much for your great comments!_* 😎
Glad to know that you follow my channel ... and ... watching even _vintage airplanes_
That's cool 👍
First time I have seen an Intruder as an RC model. This looks superb - great detail - flies well too.
Seemed it was a bit windy for flying which probably didn't help the pilot. Despite that - a great landing.
Verygood piloting of the intruder. Plane is very stable and looks so solid and sturdy. Congrarts and God bless
_Thank you for the compliments. Much appreciated !_ ✌😉
That's one of the most impressive RC demonstrations I've seen. The amount of precise detail on this model makes it difficult to tell that it's not full scale. Nice, smooth landing, too!
This is a seriously impressive model and flight! The camera work is as we've come to expect from you Horst... РЭЯדּЄϽТ!
Thumbs up! 👍👍
Cheers, Bob
TripleThreatRC _Thank you very much for the compliments, my friend. I'm very glad that I was able to get this jewellery on video._
Have a nice weekend, Bob 👍👊
Fantastic build. I love this airplane to to scale it so perfectly is a huge credit to this man
Awesome build!! Beautifully flown and sooo delicately landed!! Brilliant stuff!! Thanks!! 👍😉
My God..... At the beginning of the video, I actually thought the plane was real! Awesome work!
Great model, I enjoyed this video very much. Thank you.
I think he caught the 3 wire...that was AWESOME !!
Really stunning model! You should get rid of the "afterburner" glow though because that took away from its realism.
Totally agree. Unplug the A/B LEDs and it goes from being magnificent to absolutely outstanding.
All of this attention to detail and the builder doesn't know the A-6 didn't have afterburners?
Ditch the burners, lengthen the flaps, add pylons...really be cool if you could construct wing fold.
beautiful plane model !! ... if you insert a small video camera connected to your snartphone you can have a view exactly identical to that of a pilot also using virtual reality glasses, it would be an incredible experience !!.... 😁👍
Thanks for the tip!
@@RCScaleAirplanes .......😉👍... 🇺🇸✈
amazing detail. Ill overlook the afterburners :) awesome job with the camera!
I was in an A-6 Squadron on the USS Saratoga, and this looks like the real thing. I wish the pilot was a big smoother on the controls. Many people don't know these were bomber extraordinaire while on active duty.
_Thank you for your kind comments. Did you noticed the strong winds during the flight?_
👍😉
Awesome, absolutely awesome. I used to wrench on A4 Skyhawks (@%#!!Slats!) many moons ago, I saw a gazillion A6s, F4s, OV10s, and a bunch of other airframes ad nauseum. I found it impossible to get sick of watching the A6 fly. Incredible model, Id love to see the operating system on that canopy, very impressive. The stick did an outstanding job, and that landing? Good god man; I was slackjawed. Well done.
_Thank you for your kind words. I'm very glad to hear that you like the video !!!_ 👍😎
Proper low-level, high speed passes! This guy knows how to fly a model jet for an audience! Spectacular!
As always, thanks so much for sharing.

Good nigth, amazing A4 the sound of the turbine its great, congrautlations and thaks for your video,,, your friend Oscar de Pachuca HGo Estados Unidos Mexicanos,,, so long,,,
A coment, I have a mistake to write A4, the correct is A6 Intruder, sorry
Wow that A-6 is amazing the level of detail that went into this bird is just great however if I recall correctly I'm almost positive the A-6 intruder because of it's ground attack role never had after burner's as it was a sub sonic ground attack aircraft and hot a high speed swept wing fighter ..The A-4 Sky hawk was as well and it to didn't use after burning Jet engine's ...
_Thank you for watching and commenting._
Regarding the afterburner, I've already mentioned at the top of all comments.
Sorry to write A4, and the rigth its A6 Intruder, thaks for your atention,,,
Intruder with Afterburner???....
Cool Video!!!
Well, you know.. that’s indeed one of the best flight movies captured by a fantastic performance of our cameraman Horst. Well done!
Markus Sieber _Thank you very much for the compliments, Markus. I'm glad to know that you liked the video!_
Cheers, Horst
Sorry, just saw the comment on the afterburners, my bad. The engine whine is something that would probably be impossible in a model.
Dan Ward _Don't worry, Dan. Since this model is completely scratch built, some small errors can be found._
Thank you for watching and commenting!
You truly captured the A-6 in looks and looks like performance as well. When they landed at an airfield they would hold the stick back until the nose wheel settled, no parachutes like a fighter. It was amazing to see just how far down the runway the nose wheel would stay up off the runway before coming gently down. For its size it could carry the heaviest bomb load.
Have to love an A6E and yours is beautiful. Congrats, excellent!
Man this is a beautiful made SCALED out model!! This guy did a FANTASTIC job on it. That landing was SWEET!!!! 👍🏼😃👍🏼 I’ve got to get my models out and get back to flying. Can you believe I haven’t flown the first RC since we got back Joe Nall. Crazy I know. Lol. I’ve been to busy working on restoring my full scale J-3 Cub. 😉👍🏼
The Intruder didn’t have afterburners!!!!!!!! I know it’s only a model but let’s be authentic!!!!
Yes I know. Thank you for watching and commenting !
An A-6 with AB? Wow, who knew? I flew that aircraft for 9 years and never knew it had AB! The shape of the intakes is all wrong and the shapes of the radome and 2000 lb drops on stations 2 and 4 made me CRINGE!
Not only a first class build job plus excellent flight skills and top notch video. All involved need to be congratulated!!!!
On another note what are the cranes along the mountain side there for?
Bill Mielke _Thank you very much for your kind comments and compliments, Bill._
The cranes stand in a quarry. You might have a look at Google Earth.
_Lodrino (Ticino / Tessin) Switzerland_
I love this plane and this is a nice model, just don’t understand the need to showoff with afterburner LEDs, since the J52 engines did not have it
Those LEDs are the only down side to this model (which is stunning). To my eyes they look fake and kills the autheticity of the model in the air.
Nivola 1953 to be fair those engines do have a glow at full power from the turbine iridescence.
A-6/ ea-6b certainly do blast a visible flame from the tailpipe at full power, especially at night, of course. Maybe a little to bright here but everything else is perfect. Well done.
The fake LED afterburners kill it on any model would be cool to see an actual flame come from the jet pipe on models of jets that do have afterburners in real life. This A-6 is a true beauty tho even though she don't have afterburners in real life.
You are correct, they did not have AB. 18,000 pounds of thrust was plenty of power for them as a Bomber.
Totally sick! Love the speed brakes and opening canopy. Completely bad ass.
Thank you for your kind comment which I really appreciate. 👍🏼
nice dear friend
Memories... Thank you and wow, what a wonderful job building AND flying it. Congrats all the way. Fly safe.
Where is this place? It's beautiful!
John Street _Lodrino, Ticino, Switzerland_
i like when you film with the camera close to the ground. Then it seems to be a full size one !
Looks like from the movie "Flight Of The Intruder". Very Cool!!!
SterlingK *_thank you for your kind comments!_*
Wow! What a model!! I have lived very close (AZ1) to Oceana Master Jet Base in Va Beach for nearly 40 years, so we became more than familiar with these all weather attack jets through the 70' 80's and even through the 90's. Arguably the loudest twin engine bird I've ever heard in real life - louder than a F-18 Superhornet. Brings back memories seeing this video - my father's best friend was shot down in one over Vietnam. Only comment, maybe a better wind block on camera mic next windy day, otherwise, very well made video, as expected!
wow! that is a awesome model. congrats to the owner on a amazing build! those wings opening up wow!
One thing that gets me slightly with all scale aircraft ( and cars) is we don't seem to yet have scaled power and speed, which IMHO makes the whole thing look a little off, that plane looks awesome btw, wondering, does anyone give any consideration to the above or have an opinion maybe ?? I am not a scale modeller, just an observation.
Hey let's take the time and years to build an A-6B and put after burners in it.
_NOT MY FAULT !_ 😉
Just saw the slideshow of the build. WOW! You are a talented craftsman. Fantastic work and flight..
Ken Donnelly _Thank you for watching and commenting, Ken._
Glad to know that you liked the video!
Cheers, RCSA
Not to everyone's liking but I think the non-standard afterburners really gives this jet a presence in the air and looks hella cool! Just my opinion of course. ;)
Awesome. I was with Grumman Field Operations. Kudos on this build. Nice.
hogdog1953 _Thank you for your kind comments._
Bonjour Horst,
Nice plane - Great cam work. The flight in this environment makes it very realistic. *Thumbs Up*
Cheers, Christian.

Always liked the looks of the Intruder , not radical- but looks just right and did a good job . Basic wing is used on the Tomcat so it must have been well designed !
All the comments about how beautiful this plane looks are true. But let's give a hand to the great camera work that made it so enjoyable to watch!!!
Nice build and flight. I don’t care if the original had afterburners the lights look awesome!!! Thanks for posting!!!
Thought that real at first. Stunning, very impressed!!
Thank you! 😊
voll cool, dachte fast da kommt ein echter angefahren ;-) sehr schönes Modell !!!
it was great! nice plane!
_Thank you for watching and commenting !_ 😎👍
Excellent result...most people do not understand the complexity of building an A6. I am curious about something...
Where did you determine the CG to be?...Measured nose to tail. Obviously I am amidst an A6 and collecting successful flight data. My 6 is 1:5.5 120" x 119" and EDF powered.
Looking forward to your reply.
Ed
Beautiful RC model and authentic paint job, even the squadron logo is accurate. I served with VMA (AW)-224 from 1978-79 during the Wes-Pac tour, stationed at MCAS Iwakuni, Japan and NAS Cubi Point, Philippines. Great job!!
I worked with the EA-6A, A-6B, KA-6D, and A-6E during the aircraft’s lifetime, and your model was great(given the identified limitations). You should do an EA-6B Prowler, which until last year was still deployed with the USMC. The series has a long and distinguished history, and your model only added pleasure to those of us who worked so intimately with all versions of the Intruder (and Prowler).
It even sounds like an Intruder.
Man that’s fucking scary!!!
A-6's didn't have afterburners. Beautiful model, right down to the flaperons. If you design and build another try the A-6E with the FLIR pod. The intake design and engines gave them a unique high-pitch whine sound. We had an aircrew land onboard the carrier with dual flaperon popup, something that wasn't supposed to be possible.
There's a whole lot of complaints about nit-noid details, like LEDs etc. Bottom line, show me what you've done to best Horst's beautiful build, and I'll shut up. Go get'em Horst! Likely the best jet I've seen in 30 years of modeling. Semper Fi.
Dear sir...very well done. Enjoyed your video, it was very entertaining? Surely, this takes a very long process...and your passion for flying...shows. The closest thing to flying without an engine for me. Based in Hawaii in the summer of 77 my friend who is a certified pilot flown me in a glider...amazing view and wonderful experience though. Thank you!
A really magnificent aircraft.
If I am pressed to criticise it, it would be the addition of afterburner-effects in the jet-exhausts. As far as I am aware, the intruder did not use afterburners, neither in the original P&W J-52 turbojets, nor in the GE F-104 turbofans proposed for the later cancelled upgrade.
Having said that, the execution of the afterburner-effect is about the best I've seen to date, even if the use of them isn't historically accurate.
Awesomeness is all over this flight AND build...the details are "scary" impressive.
One question lingers, though, for both take-off and landing: the open canopy. Did I miss the closing of it before take-off and right after landing?
This is awesome congrats on the build and flight. Big Thumbs Up..Tim
Beautiful model, and a rare one at that... Now, tell me:the original J52-P8 engine that was installed on the Intruder is a turbojet engine which I don't think came with afterburner mode, hence a question mark on my part. Why would you add these nozzle lights to simulate the AB if it didn't have any?
"if you still notice more details that do not match the original, please let us know."Who cares? Artistic license. GREAT presentation! Opening camera work was fantastic. Fooled me!
In bound ,feet dry , . Able six three target visual .
I heard a story about one of these putting a 500-pound practice bomb through the Charles F. Adams-Class Guided Missile Destroyer USS Semmes (DDG-18).
Thanks for the notice of scale. I was about to say, I have dived thousands of ducts on the Intruder and those are just too skinny to dive! They sure do have the jet exhaust pitch right, just a little lower but very close!
Beautiful bird, makes me nostalgic about shooting them off carriers!
The way the pilot made the approach for flypast, reminded me of flight of the intruder and Them flying down SAM Alley.
Beautiful model, beautifully flown and filmed. "Devil five oh five, feet dry!" 😉
The only ding I can put on this amazing build is that the Grumman A6 never had after burning engines, en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grumman_A-6_Intruder the J56 engine is described in the above link. I am very impressed with the quality and dedication to the realism the pilot did to create this aircraft
nice fly
Definitely going to make a lot of money selling B-Roll footage to Hollywood producers with this exquisite model. The only thing I would have liked to see would be the pilots heads moving from side to side. This would have completed the illusion of realism.
Awesome aircraft and video. I used to work on the A-6 as an Aviation Ordnance Chief Petty Officer. Great build and flying. No afterburner on an A-6 though.
