I expected Tangle to be on this list, especially with how much they talked about Invasion. Tangle was a devastating card, I always sideboarded it in mirror matches against another Fires deck. Losing 2 attacks with that deck, and watching Saproling Burst and Blastoderm fade away, really hurt.
As far as combat tricks go, I love Leeching Bite. Rather low costing, and with the current standard format, it's practically a kill spell with the pump for just 2 mana in Green.
If rare cards were on the list, I would nominate sudden spoiling, it pretty much shuts down anyone blocking or attacking an as a plus if you have 1/1 tokens you can save them from cards that hit everything for 1 damage...
I'm a fan of Harm's Way because it can target players for the win and is cheap to cast, which means that when your opponent's life is low enough they can't risk dealing damage at all.
where is invigorate? it should have at least have gotten an honorable mention, since its a +4/+4 out of nowhere, castable even when one is tapped out.a total blowout in casual decks, not so much in limited as it seems.
I really do like Giant Growth but it rarely 2 for 1s which most of these tricks do. It's also secretly 3 cards in one, Giant Growth, Lightning Bolt (to the face) and Counterspell (against burn your creature).
+CommanderX3001 If you want to use the entwine effect, you have to pay 6 mana and sacrifice three lands, however you may chose to sacrifice three of the lands you tapped to pay for it in the first place.
Betrayal of Flesh isn't a combat trick, it's removal + raise dead. Agony Warp, Harm's Way, or Zealous Persecution would have made much more sense on this list.
@balthorpayne im actually quite glad that's gone, it didn't make any sense and was very frustrating and now that its gone more intricate abilities can be put on creatures...
Might be a bit of a stretch but I'd consider astral slide up there... sure it was an enchantment and it did nothing on it's own... but it made all cycles by all players into combat tricks for you.
Good old invasion :)! Also, if the wording on the card says it returns to its controller tapped then im pretty sure thats how its supposed to work.... Otherwise they wouldnt have written it on the card.
Once upon a time, a creature with a "sacrifice this creature to..." effect could enter combat, assign damage to an opponent and have damage assigned to it, then activate the ability before it died. So the other creature or player would still take damage from that creature, even though it had already disappeared.
Gleam of Authority is the king of all combat tricks now. It grants vigilance so attack without tapping. Then in response to their block, pay one and tap to bolster. You get a +1 for all other +1's so you'll almost always bolster a second creature you're attacking with so that's +1/+1. Then you get a +1/+1 because of their +1/+1 counter. Best ambush EVAR!

Part of me misses damage being placed on the stack, but then again, Invasion was my first set.

do you have to sac three lands and pay the 6 mana for betrayal of flesh
+CommanderX3001 If you want to use the entwine effect, you have to pay 6 mana and sacrifice three lands, however you may chose to sacrifice three of the lands you tapped to pay for it in the first place.
+bishiknight Aaah, that's a lot better than I initially thought lol. Good point.
