    Another great video! I have bern taking Rapamycin at 6mg/week most weeks ( I skip after a FMD week). I enhance the effectiveness by eating a grapefruit 30 minutes before swallowing the Rapamycin tablets. Zero side effects.

      Feel free to ignore these questions if they are too nosy or personal, but this is the first comment I've seen from someone saying they take rapamycin. Was this prescribed by a dr (and what kind of dr) for a specific aliment, or as a longevity supplement, or did you choose to take it yourself as a longevity supplement? What country are you in? How long have you been taking it? What is your approximate age and how has that impacted you decision to take it? By comparison I believe David Sinclair takes resveratrol, NMN, and metformin, but not rapamycin. I believe Peter Attia previously took metformin but stopped. (I'm was just searching and he might actually be taking rapamycin now, which I was not aware of.)

      @@RickLindstrom No problem answering. Not prescribed. I chose myself to take Rapamycin as a longevity supplement after reading many published papers, Dr. Green's clinical observations, and informal discussions online with people including a few MD's who take it themselves. I am a few months short of 70 years. My view is the benefit for at least older individuals is positive. Known side effects are mostly non existent. Questions exist about long term usage and dosing do exist. Tests on humans so far indicate that immunity is enhanced at low and intermittent doses. (Number one issue from people who haven't done their research is to automatically and incorrectly assume that immunity would be harmed at any dose.)

    Another enlightening segment. Given that Rapamycin is an antibiotic, I'll wait for more information before seeking to add it to my regimen, but I will be waiting eagerly. It seems quite promising.
    Also an interesting insight into the mTorc1 vs mTorc2 discussion. This is the first time I heard from anyone in the field that suppression of mTorc2 might not be a bad thing.
    Lots to learn. Thank you for bringing so much interesting and insightful material to us.

      Hi Abraham, thanks for the comment. Yes, I found that was really interesting as well. Especially as he described rapamycin as a "very safe drug" which is not the impression I have got from other sources. Hopefully the dog trial will provide more clarity on this.

      Rapamycin is an antifungal. It originally was produced by bacteria to fight off fungi in Easter Island.

    Just to add another comment - I've been using rapamycin for over two years now. More energy, aches and pains have largely gone away. The side effects I've noticed are occasional small skin rashes, and once a canker sore that went away after 3 days.

    Dr Green's latest is 20mg Rapa / every 2 weeks. Prior protocol was 6mg once per week. NOT 3x per week. Need the 1/2 life to trickle down to zero per Green. We need more tests re benefit / doseing / frequency.

    I'm interested the in the studies uc Davis is doing with cats in using rapamycin to reverse heart disease. I believe ncsu is also doing a clinical study. From what I've read a combination of rapamycin and metformin is the best treatment. Metformin promotes AMPK and the combination of both seem to guard against insulin resistance. Very exciting!

  • @marcosta183

    What about combining Rapamycin with Metformin? It seems, after new studies, that one drug compensates the side effects of the other, considering the correct dosages...

    • @ModernHealthspan
      @ModernHealthspan  3 года назад +3

      Hi Ankur thanks for the question. I have not tried it so I have no direct experience. I think Prof Kaeberlein's view is very interesting as it was different from the prevailing view of Drs Kennedy and Sabatini who both viewed the long term effects as being negative. He also pointed out the negative side effects could because of the large doses used in organ transplant patients. He also said it was a "very safe drug". It is good to hear different opinions even it means that there is no clear answer!

    • @rapamycinnews
      @rapamycinnews 2 года назад +2

      @@ModernHealthspan Richard, one thing to note - both Drs. Kennedy and Sabatini are involved with startup companies working on other MTOR inhibitors, so they have a financial interest in focusing on the negative side effects seen with rapamycin at the very high doses of rapamycin used in Cancer and Organ Transplant patients - as high as 40mg to 90mg per day. This contrasts to the minimal side effects we see in dosing of 5mg to 20mg per week that are used in anti-aging.
