    A) Your game has to be FUN ( this means tier2 / tier3 / homebrews decks should be playable - atm 98% of cards / archetypes are unplayable because the remaining 2% are orders of magnitude stronger - queuing into the exact same decks / archetypes all the goddamn time is not fun )
    B) Your players should feel they are getting a good deal ( lol at present, packi prices are high, bundles are getting regularly nerfed to provide less & less value overtime, cosmetics are ridiculous overpriced, way too many "passes" & whatnot )
    C) Your paid cosmetics should feel special, be affordable, and be desirable ( that died long ago as there are now so many - most of them bland - it's simply not possible to keep up, they've basically immunized their own customer base against FOMO )

    I like your idea, but they could do a very simple thing. They could be decent enough and give the players who pay the 100 ish euro each expansion enough resources in the 3-4 months of that expansion to get all the cards. My main gripe when I used to pay was that I paid for a full game and never got everything from one expansion.
    Regarding old sets, they should just give them out in full, but uncraftable or make packs cost 10 Gold instead of 100 and when you disenchant old cards, you get "old dust" that can be used to create only older cards, not the new standard cards.

      Not only does spending a whopping 80 bucks on pre-ordering an expansion barely give you half of the cards you want - if you're lucky - but they don't even have the decency to give you the season pass with it. Because if you give them 80 bucks thrice per year, you're clearly a cheapskate & don't deserve to be treated well. Anyone still spending money on this game should be ashamed.

    Maybe this falls in the category of Blizzard not wanting to have game modes compete with standard.
    But i feel like many of the tavern brawls make for the most fun and interesting games and give players the opportunity to find uses for niche legendarys, which in turn rewards players for keeping them and not dusting them for the strongest meta option.
    So maybe being able to play more than one tavern brawl at a time and getting more incentive to play tavern brawl would be fun.

    I understand what you were talking about in terms of the dust system. It could be better, but does allow players a lot of freedom in getting the cards they want. However, the biggest problem behind monetization is the quality of the game. There can be as many cosmetics as you want, Ghostly, Signature, Diamond, Golden who cares about any of that when im not encouraged to even play the game. Id be more encouraged to spend money if the game was fun to even play.
    Id love to use older cards or have reasons to get older packs but they leave wild to rot and clearly don't care about twist. These formats would be a lot better at dumping dust if there was reasons to play them but again the gameplay is awful.
    They need to make a good game first before they can properly monetize it.

    Hearthstone needs to change every expansion themes. They are so stupid and childish, not attractive for the majority of gamers (~18 to 35 years). Another aspect is that there are too many cards that are never used, and the core game hasn’t changed since hearthstone launched, it needs an overhaul.

  • @RubenManriquezS
    @RubenManriquezS 24 дня назад +2

    Ghostly cards are a bad idea. It's relies on the concept that everyone has dust stacked. When dust is an extra bonus that you receive IF you have the bad luck to have a duplicate. And then, you need to delete or mill your cad to get it, process that gives you just a percentage of a total card. You can't make a whole system based on dust because it's hard to earn. Isn't a battle pass reward, isn't a reward from opening packs and isn't available on store. You need to sacrifice your own collection to get it. NO.
    To make the HS game viable again, they need to stop doing garbage cards, arena cards, other game mode cards, and include them all inside the same standard packs. I don't play arena or duels, why I am receiving it when I open a pack? I am talking about cards who are bad on Standard but good on Arena, for example.
    And, NO MORE NERFS after the card is released. There were eras when an expansion was released and we received 3 weeks of nerfs. That is the moment I stopped investing in this game. Literally you made my money went to the garbage. do your job and test, but if you keep nerfing cards,m you are killing your own game (and NO, giving you dust by disenchanting the card IS NOT A SOLUTION because, as the previous point said, you are sacrificing your own collection to get it)
    If they want to take Marvel Snap as a comparison, you need 1 copy of each card on a short deck, with a wide meta. It's perfect. You can win or lose again top 1 deck or top 5 (usually Galactus one - kinda mill deck) and it's based on short matches and fast pace.
    Who wouldn't invest in a fun, fast and adrenalinic game? Instead, we have eternal rope-burning rounds in standard HS.

    As a gamer who plays games in a big part because of aesthetics, this would probably drive me a way from HS forever. Having to color a big chunk of the cards I get after opening them in packs feels like having to collect them multiple times. It's like that BS they pull in those waifu gacha games, where you have to collect the same character multiple times to "upgrade" them. I've also never dusted my wild cards, because wild is the coolest format.
    The rewards for the full collection of an expansion I would enjoy though.

  • @cirmiz
    @cirmiz 26 дней назад +4

    The thing that seems underdeveloped for me is the achievements system. There is close to no motivation on doing them (I complete them randomly). How about giving the "full artwork" or a special frame of a card after doing the related challenge? Example: I just completed "I Scream. You Scream" - deal 160 damage with Corpsicles. That means is a card that I already have and use it a lot, so unlocking the visual has no impact on the gameplay but will push me to try to play games just to hunt a specific achievement if the reward can be shown!
    For real challenging ones can be a card back, or even titles or small icons that can be attached to you player name.
    For example I am a quite fast player and I usually plan my moves in the opponent turn. I picture myself with a small rabbit icon next to my name. When the opponent is roping or is just too slow I imagine him having a snail or tortoise next to his name. Is not a big deal but can be an indicative of pride/shame.
    Or what about having a slot for a custom emote line (even if not voiced). By custom I mean you can choose one from the ones that you have unlocked. In BG they have something like that where you can choose what emote pictograms to use.

    As someone played this game since 2014 Beta test, I now occasionally come back once a year to this game, play a few matches then quit again for a whole another year.
    I am fairly a competitive wild format player (care about win/loss), reached legend twice before,
    The reason I'm no longer interested in Hearthstone anymore is absolutely because the way Blizzard balances the game,
    for the most part, wild players' voice is never listened(since there isn't any tournament data), Blizzard only adjust cards for standard,
    and for wild they deliberately buffs cards underplayed, without addressing the existing overpowered cards, and hoping the meta would fix itself.
    The truth is, the game is super expensive to play, it is not like you print a new powerful card people will immediately play it, the meta for the most part become a pool of past balance mistakes, and impossible to fix, and once people quit it's already too late.
    I now play mostly paper Magic : the gathering, paper card games are much less forgiving on design mistakes, you can't do hot fix patch but banning cards completely.

    I have taken breaks from the game but have been playing ever since the game got released. I have paid for things that have felt like good value (which I was able to tell in part thanks to you guys). I’ve tried other games but to be honest simply got tired of them. YuGiOh is carried by their past and is incredibly difficult and expensive to the point that I couldn’t even justify buying anything, I built 3 or so decks from the free resources and simply made a new account when I wanted to play other decks. Marvel Snap feels good to spend money in because you’re pretty much guaranteed to see and show off the cards you buy in a match. But hearthstone is difficult to judge because for me it’s the most fun as a game. It’s friendliest in terms of giving you the resources to play and the paths to get a deck are also clear with a simple crafting system.
    Which is where I’ll give feedback about your proposals: the cosmetic ideas are great, I love the idea of spectators and tiered portraits. I’m not so sure about the ghostly cards. I tried to introduce a few of my friends to the game and they had a good time with one exception: they often love a class and struggle to get the cards specific to it. I wonder if something like a wishlist or a favorites system could be useful for the game. Let’s say I mark some cards that I’m looking for as my targets and the game gives them a tiny boost in probability to be rolled, but then the shop can target the cards for the player. Let’s say I can buy a pair of epic cards I’m looking for for a few dollars and the next tier purchase offers me a legendary from the wishlist bundled with a portrait. Suddenly the 15$ price for a hero doesn’t seem as bad because I in my mind I am buying a card I want and get a hero as a bonus!
    Also I think wild packs should’ve been converted to wild dust a long time ago, or maybe a ghostly uncraftable system you propose because seeing TGT at a 100g per pack hurts my heart.
    Good video and I hope the devs hear us!

    I really love Hearthstone, I have played for many years, I quit eventually and I admit that I come back because I get some random video on RUclips of someone playing some deck or Battlegrounds and it makes me want to go back.
    It is impossible to return to normal mode if you haven't played for a long time, it really feels uphill, none of the decks you have work. Sometimes you copy the deck of one you have seen on RUclips, eliminating all your old cards, but as soon as you play 2 or 3, you lose and the motivation goes away.
    With Battlegrounds it is another story, it is really very easy to adapt, the game method hooks you and it feels good to "be the best among 8" (a satisfaction that you do not have in the standard mode since it is difficult to climb the ladder, just as What happens with League of Legends and that's why people switched to Fornite or battlegrounds in general).
    I understand that the game is dying, because times have changed, I would say that there are nostalgic players who really play because in their time they were addicted, occasional players (as is my case) who play every time they remember, and finally new players, who They have no motivation to stay because it is too "slow". Nowadays players live on constant stimuli, that's why Marvel Snap works so much, it's much faster and there's a lot of action on the screen.
    If you want to satisfy both audiences, old and new, you have to follow the other main line. Market. Give the cards exclusivity, create a market, I'm not saying make a CS:GO but make the players feel that they have something unique or that they can stand out from others, or even that they want to play to win something that they can sell for money. That type of thing attracts the new player and the old players would be motivated to return since they know the game and believe they have an advantage.
    Other ideas without adapting to new generations will probably determine the end of the game sooner or later.

    Just my opinion, but i do think ghostly card can be better if it is rented to the player for a limited amount of time and limit the number of uses. Giving players ticket , which can be bought with 40 dust or present in some event, which can be traded into any ghostly card available in the game. After that, invent a new currency or something which specific for ghostly cards, where you can only get this currency by paying real money/ gold/ dust . Each time you play a deck with a ghostly cards redeem this way, each win cost you 1 of those new currency for each ghostly card in your deck. In the same time, if the player willing to pay money to the game, they can have privilege of use those ghostly cards without any restriction in certain period of time, for example 1USD 3days, 3 USD for 7 days etc.

    Aside from the colorless versions of ghostly cards, I think your ideas are genuinely great! Cards that can't be disenchanted for dust but can be earned more easily are a great concept, and honestly they're what twist needed in order to succeed (partly, at least). Extra rewards for collection are also a good idea, although giving them only for earning a full collection gives an opportunity to print a load of useless epics especially that players would have to waste resources for in order to earn those rewards (for example, almost all epics from PiP are very bad). While that's not necessarily a problem, it would probably lead to more lack of trust.
    Speaking of which, that is another very big issue. Personally, I don't spend money of the game because I don't have faith in blizzard to keep supporting it for even just the next year, because lack of communication and layoffs make it seem like management doesn't have any real commitment to the game and the players, and because of past cases where their offers were not just overpriced for their value: some of their offers gave the players nothing in return!
    I'm referring mainly to twist and the caverns of time launch. Caverns of Time was a scam, it was a lie, basically anyone who bought pre made twist decks or Caverns of Time packswas just robbed of their money Unless for the very unlikely scenario of opening one of the very few useful legendaries - but even then, those cards were only useful for twist, which was gone in 3 months, and for wild, which is intentionally neglected. Caverns of Time is probably the biggest reason I'm not spending money on hearthstone right now - I feel like there's no guarantee they respect their end of the offer. So what they need to do to get any money from me is just prove they care about the game and the players, and about making the game feel less soulless.
    Also, on the colorless ghostly cards - I think doing so would be very wrong, especially with the controversy around the lack of trailer and board for PiP. The base ghostly cards still shouldn't count for collection rewards, I agree. But I think that forcing the players to spend extra resources, or pay, just for the cards to be colorful, would be detrimental to the the overall enjoyment of all players of the game (even those who do color their cards will still face people who don't, so their experience will worsen), and the value of of having more competitive variability and accessibility is nowhere close to be worth the disadvantage of losing the theme and feeling of the game. Ultimately, this is a very big loss for the players, not a compensation. In addition, colorless ghostly cards would also be less attractive to new and returning players, and would cause more potential (as well as existing) players to abandon the game. This is ultimately my prediction, but I think that another way of differentiating between ghsotly cards that don't count towards your collection and ones that do is in need.
    Although I elaborated a lot with my criticism, I do believe your ideas are very great, especially in their concepts, and just need some minor details executed differently. I hope my opinion helps.

  • @alonkob2127
    @alonkob2127 24 дня назад +1

    Also, I'll add in a little idea of my own, for a "new" gamemode that might actually work. Basically, just standard, but ALL decks have 40 health and cards. This format doesn't really compete with standard, and for balance they could potentially ban problematic cards from it, so they could still be played in the regular standard format. It would also let them make some experiments with the meta such as offering an environment where certain hated standard cards aren't present, or potentioally adding a few wild cards to it. And I'm pretty sure, no one really loses from it? The format shouldn't be hard to create, so it shouldn't be a big investment to develop. It can increase the overall usefulness of some epic and legendary cards, that would open more variety to the players as well as the profits of the developers. All the while the mode is still very accessible since it's tied to standard, and since card bans can go through in small hotfix patches it can actually be balanced around regularly (the main issue here would revolve around whether or not the cards getting banned would offer a full dust refund, but I think that either way it shouldn't be a huge issue, especially if they try to limit said bans to common and rare cards).

    • @HearthstoneMathematics
      @HearthstoneMathematics  24 дня назад

      I like the concept, but you're basically killing aggro decks in this format, which would significantly reduce variability. Isn't that right? Control decks versus control decks can be a tedious competition.

    • @alonkob2127
      @alonkob2127 24 дня назад

      @@HearthstoneMathematics Admittedly, that's very likely, even though I think banning certain cards could even out the playing field a little bit. That being said, it's an alternative standard mode that opens up more ways if playing the game while also requiring minimum development resources to maintain. Even if it fails, players would still be able to use the cards they used for it in standard and wild, so the risk of investing in it for players is relatively pretty low. So in the worst case scenario, it ends up being a dead mode that players don't really feel cheated for, and the developers didn't waste too much time and resources on.

This would encourage more players to play and spend money because the rules could be anything like decks of 1-5 cards or only cards that cost over 8 mana or whatever you want to encourage players to get all the cards. Plus free players could enjoy this format. Or you could have rules like a deck of 100 cards or deck of 500 cards. Or even a deck of your entire collection whatever that may be. This would encourage players like me which have played for many years to keep playing and feel like my collection is being put towards something fun. Would it be useful to change the dust into categories? I had thought of two possible situations:
    Legacy Dust & Standard Dust
    Legacy is only obtainable by disenchanting cards in the wild format and standard in the standard format. You can use standard dust to create any card, but with Legacy dust you can only create cards from the wild format.
    Alternative
    Common, rare, epic and Legendary Dust, but the ratio would be improved from 4-for-1 to 3-for-1 disenchanted cards to have the ability to create a card for free.
    I await opinions, and thanks for your attention 😊

      1 - So everyone just will disenchant the cards one day before they turn into wild cards to get the standard dust instead of wild dust.
      2 - Yugioh Master Duels its like that. In theory its beautiful. In practice all the decks needs half UR (the legendary grade) cards, even the bad decks. So you get stuck with thousand of common dust and none of UR dust to make your decks.

    • @ValensODST
      @ValensODST 22 дня назад

      @@marcelolima70 For method 1: you could set a deadline date for disenchanting (2 weeks in advance for example) so as to stop the wild disassembly of decks, because you would force players to get rid of everything but their deck(s) in use, or force them to stop playing for two weeks (which I think few would do if they really care about the game).
      For method 2, on the other hand:
      You could do limited-time events where you can convert a daily amount of dust common to rare, rare to epic, and epic to legendary.
      Ratio 1 to 3 for conversion as well: 120 dust common would convert to 40 rare, and so for each bracket.

    • @ValensODST
      @ValensODST 22 дня назад

      By method 1 it could also be done:
      Only cards from the current year count as standard dust. Those from the past year, even if still present in standard mode, can already be converted to wild dust. This should stop the dismantling of cards a minimum, because a good deck usually contains cards from both the current year and the past year, and it does not pay to disenchant everything en masse not knowing which cards will be useful in the second year of life of that particular set

    I think fucking with the economy in an obvious way is only going to piss people off. I think the best way to change things under the hood is also the simplest: actually scale rarity to card power. For basically HS's entire history, epics have been way underpowered relative to their dust cost. They're far more likely to be gimmicks than intended to be competitive. Why would I keep buying packs to fill out my collection with garbage cards I won't ever use?
    Way more rares have been meta-defining, and when compared to epics, roughly a similar proportion of the rare pool in any given set sees consistent play. Why is that? In physical TCGs, these kinds of disparities get corrected on the secondary market. The dust economy is basically equivalent to that. If the concern is that players have too much dust, making the average meta deck more expensive seems like a good way to address that. Obviously, some cards outperform expectations, but enough cards perform as expected to change how they allocate this.

    I disagree that skins are an unreliable source of income. The issue is that when someone spends around 100 euros per expansion just to have the resources for variety in gameplay, they aren't as willing to spend extra on skins. Compared to other games-as-a-service, Hearthstone is expensive if you want to experience all aspects of gameplay. If the cards were free, I’d gladly spend money on skins like in other games, but right now, I’m already spending too much 😅
    Also, I'm not sure if other cheaper games like Runeterra and Gwent failed because of monetization issues - they just didn't play nearly as well as Hearthstone.

  • @Narutimate2Accel
    @Narutimate2Accel 26 дней назад

    While a discussion on economy is waranted and you bring some good points @HearthstoneMathematics, I think the focus should be on creating another hit like Battlegrounds. I know Blizzard's previous attempts didn't pay off, but I really don't see how they're gonna go back to even achieving their old revenue without a big shake-up in the client itself. A economy change isn't gonna change much (look at LoR as an example, the game has stopped growing since the new focus on pve and redesign of monetization).
    It pains me to say this but I think Blizzard had the right idea with Mercenaries, make another mode that incentivises buying separate packs. The issue with Mercenaries is that it was undercooked for the amount of payment required for that mode. I really don't get why no ccg developer doesn't focus on a pve mode that isn't a draft deckbuilder. If you just make a constructed pve mode, then you can sell packs with new cards that don't require heavy balancing from the team. Seems like an easy solution for the team. And later on, if it does well, you can tackle on a pvp mode with those broken cards.

    It is too late for this game.
    There have been so many mistakes with development of mercenaries or “wild should be wild”, united in stormwinds, exorbitant power creep, early otks, banning/nerfing the counter cards (watch post/hand interaction), supporting quest mage for the billionth time, renathal nerf, making the game more expensive…
    There were so many opportunities to make this game unbelievably fun and increase the audience to make more money.
    -Instead short term strategies and money grabs were implemented left and right.
    Now it is catching up with them. It is not even the fault of the current developers.
    Bad decision were taken many years ago.
    Something is wrong with a game, if despite being a fun game, you couldn’t recommend it 6 years ago, because it had a very abusive relationship with its players.
    Very happy with the decision to delete my account about a year ago. Spend too much money on it and had 50+(or 100+?) golden legendaries. Not a complete, but almost complete wild collection, in the way of the cards that are useful or fun.
    I hate this game so much, because my preferences were screwed so hard.
    Good decision to quit.
    Hearthstone didn’t take any risk expanding the game mechanically for a long time like locations currently do.
    The cards just got faster and new expensive skins got introduced. Refurbished keywords. Bigger numbers.
    They could probably get the game back on track, if they hired Zeddy to develop the game.
    Sounds odd and don’t agree with all his takes, but he played so much, he understands, what the game needs to make it fun.
    How to balance it and so on. There would be less or fairer mana cheat…

    it won't make a difference if my collection is golden or diamond and easy to claim if the meta ends turn 3-4, wild and standard both formats are bad to play, because of existance of certain archtype that they can take over years to be nerfed and allowing people to quit the format, its not that hard to balance changes if they test their cards, and improving control meta to be more fun than stupid pain/fatigue/overheal/spell damage otk that ruins the fun for the game more.

    I've spent thousands of dollars on this game in the past but i stopped doing that altogether around 2 years ago because they simply don't offer anything of value to me anymore.
    Why should i spend money on packs if the vast majority of cards (incl. many legendary cards) has pack filler status at this point?
    Why should i spend money on portraits that don't even fit the definition of a portrait (weird angles, whole character designs + background scenery that end up looking like a blob in these tiny frames, especially on mobile devices)? And don't even get me started on how much i hate the bland cartoonish design direction of the game.
    I could easily afford to buy all this overpriced crap they try to sell in the shop but why should i want to spend money on cosmetics if the corresponding game is not enjoyable for me anymore?
    If their new main target audience doesn't want to pay any money on the game either, that's on them and i couldn't care less tbh.
    I've spent all this money on a game that went from #1 favorite game to #1 mood killer within a few years just because they got too greedy and suddenly started pandering to a completely different type of audience.
    To me, Hearthstone already died years ago.

    I like to play dumb decks in the Standard format. Nothing I build is what you'd call competitive. I can't play in Casual, because that's a Wild format. Can't play in Standard because it's all net decks.
    Last month I figured I'd wait until the end of the month, when all the tryhards were already done playing, but no, July 31st is as bad as July 1st. I'm sitting in Bronze 10, still playing against XX.X% winrate net decks on the last day of the month.
