- A drill : is a machine tool designed to drill holes using drills.
Drills and reamers are used to obtain holes of more precise dimensions. Countersinks, etc. are used for countersinking.
Most often, tools are clamped into the drill using chucks of various types and sizes, the most common is a gear chuck up to a diameter of 13 mm. Larger diameter drills are clamped directly into the drill spindle using a Morse taper. Originally, the drills were powered by hand, they were hand tools. Today's drills are usually driven by electric motors. To obtain different speeds, the drills are equipped with gearboxes and electronic speed preselection.
The simplest tools for manual drilling of holes are classic heaters. Other tools for drilling holes are also spinning wheels. There are also hand drills equipped with a drill thread, as well as mechanical hand drills driven by a crank by means of a gear transmission.
Hand-held portable electric drills powered by a single-phase electric motor are often equipped with a "hammer", which is a vibrating mechanism that facilitates the destruction of masonry when drilling into concrete and other building materials. (Source wikipedia)

I can't thank you enough for this video. You're the only one that opens the chuck and shows how it's supposed to work. I have a huge chest drill that belonged to my grandfather and I've always wondered what was missing in the chuck that the jaws kept falling loose. You've made an amazing job. I knew I recognized the logo on that brass medallion! It is the current logo of Zbrojovka Brno Rifles which is owned now by Česká zbrojovka a.s. Uherský Brod makers of some of the finest firearms in the world.
From the Zbrojovka Brno history page:
"Also the civil production was expanded, including cars, bicycles, industrial scales, slicing machines, aircraft engines, machine tools, and special tools. Zbrojovka Brno became a model for perfectly organised companies with a modern and precise serial production; the company introduced its own original tolerance system for own production and the use of measuring instruments, due to which it became one of the pioneers of the standardisation in Czechoslovakia."

For those who don’t know. Filing both directions is actually the best way to file and does not cause premature wear to the file!
Jason from fireball tools on RUclips made a video that has pretty solid controls to test if it was better to file only forward only backward or both directions. Great video for anybody who’s interested!

Great done. And the color of the rings on the handles echoes the color of the plate. Super! I can not find a reason for nit-picking.
Found! I am sure that a wooden handle should rotate freely on its axis with a rotating lever. Otherwise, it is inconvenient to twist the arm. About half a century ago, I worked a lot with a similar drill.
This is my nitpicking. But I admire the work and the result.

A well-done restoration. A hand drill is one of the first tools I learned to use in my father's shop. Your restoration brings back memories. Although many consider them to be obsolete, I find they still have their uses. Thank you for the enjoyable video, and smiles and good health from the USA

Perfect restoration! That drill will work the next 70 years at least. I have a similar hand drill made in USSR about 50 years ago. Sometimes I use it where electricity not available.

Вторая жизнь хорошего инструмента. Хорошая работа, Радек. Единственное, что меня удивило: ручка вращающаяся не шарнирная, а закреплена намертво. Это не очень удобно в работе. Хотя, если стояла цель сохранить исходную конструкцию, то и вопросов нет.
А результат , как всегда, превосходный.

По тому что в кадре появились руки в перчатках стало понятно что Радек снова в строю. Вероника не обижайся - у тебя руки красивее. Понравилось решение с пружинами - все думал откуда он их возьмет? Вот что значит руки работящие и голова думающая. С выздоровлением и удачи.

У меня была такая дрель, лет 35-40 тому... Сейчас смешно смотреть на простоту,
но сколько раз в жизни она выручала, в работе по-дому, в работе на лодке

Loved that Zbrojovka Brno hand drill. My grandpa had one in his estate for working when far from electric outlets and it ran very smoothly. Minimal maintenance and excellent materials. That's a lovely restoration. Cheers.
