They hate when civilians are better than them at their job with zero training. Only they are responsible is how they think when in reality lawful gun owners break the law less than law enforcement. That’s a fact that should raise everyone’s eyebrow. That’s because we don’t have qualified immunity and a culture that investigates themselves to find no wrong doing.

It really wasn't the right thing to do, tho it feels like it's not fair he got in trouble the law protects all life, criminals have the same rights as us, he didn't try to run him over or anything, if the suspect was on foot fleeing and he held him at gun point or wrestled him to the ground he would have been a hero, but to draw a weapon in a city and fire on a passing car is very dangerous and reckless, having a weapon gives you the power to protect life, not to enforce the law, the most important thing to understand is you must be in danger, if you can't say " if I didn't shoot I would have died" it isn't justified

If an acorn drops and a police officer negligently mag dumps into a vehicle in a suburban neighborhood on an unarmed person in handcuffs, he's just allowed to resign. If a civilian fires a single round into a vehicle being chased by police in order to stop it, felony. The only difference is the civilian only fired once, and his fire was effective.
I wouldn't do what he did, and wouldn't recommend it to anyone, but the double standard is ridiculous. Hard to say he should have helped when the cops turn around and arrest him after doing so.

    • @opinionsvary

In my opinion: In that FL case, the LE supervisor also shot multiple times into their own agency vehicle responsive to the LE subordinate's call for help.
That removes the subordinate from full culpability & being the supervisor was female, nothing will become of it except "remedial training" or be promoted to a desk job because they qualified her for that position & severely disciplining her wouldn't go over well in the Civil Service procedure to regain her full job status with full back pay. That's one good reason to privatize LE.
FL LE operates with a military ambiance & the States administration wouldn't see issues with it outside a behind the screens hard laugh.
On an interesting note that subordinate had a SIG P320 with red dot that he repetitively smacked the road with & not one shot fired was uncommanded proving how very safe SIG P320s are as matter of fact.
LE needs older seasoned guys starting in their 40s because younger ones do all sorts of dumb stuff all amped up on ego, adrenaline & testosterone. It's bad enough cops go after young males, but to have a young male as cops is a disaster in the making.
You can bet that suspect will never break the law again. He ain't getting off the charges either. 😂

Kitty Genovese is the case Tom was talking about. She was stabbed, robbed, raped and eventually killed. The incident went on for almost an hour in front of dozens of witnesses and no one called the cops. When witnesses were asked why they didn't call the police, to a person they all answered, they thought somone else would call the police. This demonstrates a phenomenon known as "Diffusion of Responsibility."" Basically, the more witnesses there are to a crime, the less chance the victim has of someone helping or calling the police.

I am an advocate for all of us to take action to protect ourself, our .loved ones, our property and our communities (Relying on others to protect 'our' rights is never a good idea unless we aren't capable alone). However, that doesn't appear to be the case in this situation. Although they barely gave us any of the evidence, so there could be much more to this than what we can see in the video. However, in the video, the car doesn't appear to be excessively speeding, driving recklessly, or otherwise creating any imminent danger, and the car definitely did not appear to be a threat to this man or anyone else at the moment he shot at it.
It doesn't sound like the guy had any evidence of any real crime. Failing to stop for police may be a felony, but those laws only came to be because of people like this guy that think police (and apparently, anyone helping them) should have unlimited power and authority with no accountability. What if it was just some scared person that didn't know how to react and felt more comfortable driving a few blocks home before stopping?

I was this exact situation once. I was walking my protection trained Giant Schnauzer (got him at 8 weeks old) he was 2 at the time , the officer was on the losing end of a physical fight. I asked, yelled, do you want some help!? My dog was already going berserker bc of them fighting, he replied yes! Help me! I quickly shuffled closer , told the suspect dude to quit resisting or I'd let the dog loose, cop said "send the dog!!" I guess cause my dog and I had by then near 1000 hours of training, in those milliseconds I decided it was best to give another warning (there were few people who'd take bites from my dog, he went clean through bite sleeves and suits and left serious bruises) I could see the state or a lawyer trying to hem me and my dog up , so, the second warning was "this is your 2nd and final warning!" From his knees to his chest he was covered in slobber , that's how close I put Motts's head to him...
Thankfully dude screamed "I give up!" And dropped face down arms spread.. this was in 2004 . I still think about that 4 minutes in time . Found out later the cop became K9 lol
Anyways, I wouldn't have jumped in unless the cop said yes help me , like he did. I also wonder if I listened to the cop and let my dog bite dude (it would have been horrible for dude , no doubt he'd have been disfigured) would I gotten sued , dog taken away etc etc etc even though I was asked by the cop to help ..

The man in question unlawfully used force, and was charged appropriately for his actions, and lucky was able to get a misdemeanor (for whatever that is worth). A person who carries their firearm is not a deputized citizen immune from arrest and litigation. There are times in which use of a firearm is unjustified, and this was one of those times. Indeed. Just because you carry a firearm, you're not a deputized citizen. Stay out of the way. It is a rather byzantine subject, but CCW holders really need to not only train with their weapon, but also become familiar with scenarios of both justified and unjustified use of force. The Concealed Carry Podcast would have segments with an attorney in which they would discuss cases of defensive firearm use and the outcomes, and the attorney would lend his opinion as to whether the use of force was justified or not, and if not, why it wasn't. Something to learn from on each case. Until I started carrying 12 years ago, I didn't know about the idea of "false imprisonment" if you held a suspect under certain circumstances. That's a gotcha.

If "it" isn't happening to me, I'm looking the other way.
If "it" is happening to me, I will fight back.
If "it" is happening to one of my kids, or grand kids, I'll destroy everything in sight to personally deliver the justice.
Now, the reason for the first point.....
30 years ago I rescued an older man from a burning car.
Doors were jammed so I had to pull him out through the driver door window.
During the process he suffered three cracked ribs.
Six months later I'm in a courtroom defending myself in a civil suit because he got injured coming through the window.
Luckily, I was blessed with a judge that had some common sense.
The judge asked the man what he thought would have happened if I had not came to his aid.....
Then the judge answered his own question..... "You would have burned to death and would not be here to sue this man today. He could have drove away and let you burn." Case dismissed.
It is because of that event that I will now continue on my way and forget that I noticed anything at all.

I think that these Legal dissections are the most valuable things that the USCCA RUclips channel does. Lay-people can get in so much trouble doing what they think is right and good, only to find themselves getting the short end of the Legal stick. This kind of education will definitely help your viewers. I had actually attended a USCCA presentation and hoped to see a more customized seminar on relevant Laws in my state, but it was pretty general and no Legal Professionals. My Concealed Carry Permit class was surprisingly good in this respect, covering relevant State Law, but of course, no Legal Professionals either. It was Kitty Genovese who was stabbed and raped in New York in 1964. The time of day (3:15 AM), the time of year (March 13) were factors. People were asleep and had their windows closed. Some heard her screaming and called the police but no one went to her aid. She died on the way to the hospital more than an hour later.

We are getting too many police officers who want to make arrests, even when not necessary, but mostly the issue is the D.A. who sees an easy conviction or plea deal. Therefore, as a licensed firearms carrier, DO NOT voluntarily engage with your firearm any criminal in a 'non life threatening' crime. Especially do not involve yourself with a police 'chase' unless the Officers live are in imminent danger.
Our society has become a 'victim' society even when committing a crime. If you shot a criminal in the act of committing a FELONY, even against your own life, he will sue you for shooting him. If he succumbs to the shot his family will sue you. But be assured that the District Attorney will charge you with a crime regardless. A good honorable D.A. with charge you with homicide and allow a judge or jury to find you not guilty by reason of.... (Pick one).. A ladder climbing antigun DA with Charge you with a multitude of charges and attempt to convict or force a plea deal on a lesser charge.

Holland allows its citizens to carry open carry, guns in public, all of the Netherlands does, even Australia has gone back to allowing their citizens to openly carry guns again thanks to the gang wars that occurred after their idiotic gun buyback program. Even New Zealand allows its gun owners to open carry yes I know the queen of New Zealand said she was going to ban guns but she didn't succeed because even her sheriff's didn't support her plan. But the media is never going to tell you that because they're owned by the corporations that want our guns so that they're all the politicians they own can become tyrants. By the way in all the Muslim countries in the Middle East you're allowed to open carry

@@joelee2371 I don't know why my replies did not get posted. But as I said there are many such countries such as the Middle East countries which allows their citizens to open carry. The Netherlands, Holland arouse its citizens to open carry as many of the Dutch countries do. And if you go just on an image search of kids carrying guns you will see kids in Switzerland taking their guns to school on bikes and they're carrying AR-15s. You're even allowed to open carry in Japan if you can afford the permit. Even in Australia you're allowed to open carry now because they got rid of the idiotic gun laws that they passed a few years ago. But you're never going to hear this from the media who's owned by the corporations that own our politicians

Even less so are the prosecutors, who get to apply their personal biases "in the name of the law".

If the guy perceived a threat to life by himself or another person then he probably would have gotten away with that shooting. Otherwise, the dude is an idiot in my book. Deadly force is only justifiable when a life is being threatened. Shooting at a bad guy running from the police is not in itself justifiable.

I agree %100. This only serves to contribute to learned helplessness and indifference. This is why there is so much indifference in this country. Because, you're liable if you choose to get involved in almost any situation. And it only serves in the interest of the criminals.

Lethal force can only be used by a civilian to prevent an imminent threat that can result in death or grave bodily harm to oneself or another individual. I don't think the car driving AWAY from the man who fired a shot was presenting an imminent threat. There was no imminence. There was no threat. Law enforcement did not ask him to intervene on their behalf.
