I wish. If there was a show like that, I would watch it religiously. Unfortunately, the actual idea is that a bunch of people compete for the affection of one person. In general, it's an extremely stupid and off-putting concept.
People are becoming desperate to get married with these females. A lot of beta male don't know the truth about female nature and how women are freaky in nature only with alpha males because beta males are very judgemental about female nature. Look 8f you wantbto be a freak male or female just find a partner to be both freaks.
This is such an important message. Thanks so much for sharing your passion (and promoting the idea that its "ok" to be passionate about science/biology/taxidermy in the first place)
This is such a cool video! I don't watch The Bachelor, but Kendall is so sweet and it makes me so happy that she's showing her love of taxidermy so earnestly on national television!
Adding to the many messages in this video: I have no interest in The Bachelor. And I didn't want to like Kendall. And after a few minutes, it turns out she's not anything like the preconceived notions I had. So to Kendall, I'm sorry. And to Emily, thank you once again for challenging my expectations. A while back, I messaged you on Facebook, and I compared you to a very powerful figure in my life and others lives. I'm so proud that you're continuing to reach the standard that he holds for us.
Thank you Emily for always being so inspiring and allowing women to feel excited about out interests. I visited the field museum for the first time Saturday and already planning to go back this Friday! Your channel has inspired me to be curious and passionate about science again
Yeeeeees. More Brainscoop is exactly what I need in my life. I for one welcome a rebranding of taxidermy. Maybe we can call it something like "Post-life Modeling"
Emily, let me second what Kendall said--it's so wonderful to see someone else who's so into "weird" things, like taxidermy, or decomposition, or any slimy-crawly biology that few people get enthusiastic about. You're a great inspiration, in one way, and in another way, you're a validation of the fact that "normal" includes weirdos like us! I'm a Wisconsin Master Naturalist, living in a low-rent apartment, running a full-blown Weirdness Laboratory in my kitchen and living room. Everything from growing edible mushrooms to maintaining a carnivorous beetle tank for cleaning off bones I find on my expeditions into the local pond and woodland. It's not the Chicago Field Museum, but we do our best!
If you redo how taxidermy is viewed you should have Caitlin from Ask A Morticia. Yes she's a Mortician and she's also also very talented, and creative and she's changing how people view death
@@ShaudaySmith I love her channel and I just finished her first book. You are in for a treat! Make sure to watch the videos to the very end, she always sneaks something fun in at the end.
It's so heartwarming to see you both sharing your passion! The Brain Scoop has definitely changed my preconceptions about taxidermy, so I'm super glad you decided to make the channel. And anything that expresses how cool museums are is always awesome :)
I only got to see Kendall on Bachelor in Paradise but I remember thinking how crazy it would be if she did something with Emily or Caitlin Doughty (The Good Death). I'm so happy this video happened!!
My favourite thing about the Brain Scoop is the enthusiasm that Emily and the guests' (Kendall in this case) enthusiasm. It always makes smile to see people talking about the things they genuinely enjoy. :)
Since my career was spent in pathology labs and morgues. I perk right up whenever I hear people talk about dissecting. It's just being a detective, but without the hassle of the person or specimen you're investigating deliberately telling you lies to try to get away with something.
This was such a fun interview! Having something to do with your hands while you talk really takes care of the jitters, and it was great learning what went through her mind from the application through to the social media response.
Hi Emily! I'm wondering if you could make a video explaining the steps that need to be taken when a new fossil is discovered. I saw the news about Cratopipa novaolindensis found in Brazil, and they mentioned the little amphibian was discovered in 2017,so I imagine it is a long process.
This made me so flipping happy I like seeing two cool ladies dissect owl pellets and talk about their interests in such a free and excited and passionate way is so cool and I didnt know there was a bachelor contestant who was so openly into taxidermy so seeing Kendall so openly interested in taxidermy was pretty cool for me as someone who's never watched the show and whos preconceptions about the contestants comes from whatever bs floats around the social internet
Always been into taxidermy - one of my oldest friends is a taxidermist, actually, and she does taxidermy for Game of Thrones, no joke! How badass is that?!
I think I always viewed taxidermy as a way to preserve exotic hunting trophies someone uses to display their wealth and unconcern with nature. I only ever enjoyed them in museums where taxidermists tried to breath life into the empty skins of animals. But it always had a bitter aftertaste since most taxidermied animals where rare or extinct due to over-hunting. I still feel conflicted when faced with „stuffed“ animals, but leaned to appreciate the artfulness behind them. I might never come to love animals displayed in human clothing doing human things, though... I certainly loved this channel from day one!
Heh. Took apart an owl pellet back in undergrad. It really is strangely fun. Also removed the brain from a cat. Such a slow, meticulous process. Loved it! Maybe I should take up taxidermy.
@Lonely Ramen Thank's, i think my keyboard has seen it's best days... (However i guess all non Hebrew spelling is wrong anyway from a purly tecnical point of wiew...).

I really love the brainscoop. I've always been interested in the natural world but had no idea about all of the things that go on in museums. I love Emily's enthusiasm and learning about museums has made me appreciate what I see in them more. Recently I went to the Museum Mensch und Natur in Munich and saw some taxidermy there and some really beautiful dioramas there. They were really exciting and reminded me of the videos about making the diorama at the Field museum, and i think if I hadn't watched them I wouldnt be so excited about the museums here!
i was worried when i heard "Bachelor contestant," (because preconceptions of reality tv + not watching that show) but she is DELIGHTFUL! can she be... maybe not the sidekick, but maybe the substitute host next time Emily wants to go on vacation?
I never associated taxidermy with death, rather I see it as an artistic branch of science. When I was younger I saw it as something as valuable as science videos we have today. It enables one to experience the nature without being there, not because you don't want to but because you are limited by circumstances. It satisfied the thirst for knowledge that the younger me had.
Given the steep reduction in views of this video compared to most of the rest of thebrainscoop, it seems there may be an 'anti-Bachelor contestant' bias among some regular viewers. I have to admit, I hesitated to watch this episode (erroneously). This was a joy to listen to. Thank you both.
I have to admit, when I first found out what taxidermy is, my gut reaction was "You do WHAT with this beautiful, majestic animal?" but once I calmed down and learned what it's actually about, I learned to appreciate it. It isn't about butchery or killing animals, on the contrary, it's about understanding biology and anatomy, and taking a dead animal to make it look life-like.
This is the kind of wholesome female-science loving content that I would gove to my daughters if I had any. We need more kids interested in natural science again! Love the Field Museum, been too many years since I've been, I need to visit soon. n_n
I love your videos so much and seeing them makes me so much more excited that I chose to take archaeology in university! You’re so inspiring and I can’t wait until I can’t start working in museums
I remember picking apart owl pellets at primary school, I think it was between the ages of 9-12. Maybe even before as well. I was given a barn owl pellet by my ecologist boss, it's still in the tube (can see the bones inside it). But that way I can make sure that I won't lose it, like my first owl pellet!
