A wonderfully simple and serene board. The minis look fantastic. Finally, a good use for non-combat models. You could probably flavor this as any sort of ritual (ritual to bring the harvest, ritual to banish/awaken evil, etc). You might even make a set of "cook" minis, and make the "ritual" the act of cooking a great big feast. I imagine, with a few basic "AI" rules, you could run this game solo. Or perhaps with some sort of mechanic, like a set of tables or a deck of cards, that adds complications you need to deal with, in lieu of an opposing team. EDIT: One idea I had while watching was to designate the "attunement points" using markers. So there's no arguments about whether you're within range. You might create a custom board pre-marked with a ritual circle or geometric shape. Which could take the form of squares, triangles, pentacles, hexagons, etc, for varied number of attunement points. Or you could make it so the number and placement of markers is determined before the game, either with each player placing a marker or based on some set of templates. Templates which could be determined by rolling on a table or drawing cards with the layout on them. These pre-arranged layouts may correspond to common esoteric symbols. Such as various sizes of pentacles/stars, or on Norse runes. With the attunement points being overlaid on the image and distances marked.
Thank you so much! for the compliment and the rules suggestion I hope that the game inspires people to expand it in any way they like. You suggestion seems awesome. But I'm afraid I don't have the brain paper to work those intricate rules out, haha. But I will definitely try the template idea out! Maybe it will turn more into a board game with pre marked boards and templates. Thank you again!
Thank you so much for this. I'm going to put it in my D&D campaign as a mini game challenge. Also, it's so nice to see the Old Ways still in use in miniature hobbying though I may paint the edges a hearty Goblin Green just to capture that late 90's GW feel. On that note: I've been holding on to some XPS foam that my brother gave me some years ago and now I feel this is a project worthy of some of it's use. Fare well, Friend.
Ben this is so great and inspiring! I had some extra glue/paint mix from earlier today that I didn't want to waste, so I started a board! 🤘🏼 I'll try and talk someone at my miniature painting night into playing with me on Monday!
I love Necromunda because it allows me to scratch the indie, kitbashing side of things and the game itself still has that old retro punk satire that I miss from the flagship games. If you want a cool modeling challenge, check out the Mutant Outcast gang. You gotta kitbash that whole gang. It's great.
I extremly happy this game exist. I talked to Gardens of Hecate about making a Devouring Spirits Combat Game, after saw their fantastic folk horror minis. Now I don't need to. This so wholesome! Question: could a common chessboard work?
Thank you so much! But a devouring spirits game sounds awesome. I'd love to see that! Yes, I think a chess board would work as well. Let me know how it went! Thanks again.
One click led to another and here I am. So glad to discover something so simple and relaxing at the same time! Any chance you can share where did you got the idol? Thanks!
I don’t know how many times I’ve rewatched this video. Such a huge inspiration, and it’s made me want to develop my own game. If anyone has recommendations on the development process, please enlighten me.
Thank you for watching! Greatly appreciated. Game development is a lot harder than game design. The latter is a good idea of themes and mechanics. Development can be hard math but I just play and play with the basic rules skeleton and more or less see how I can cook it down to a few rock hard rules. I think it is always better to cut the fat than to add more and more rules to fix something that isn't working. And the most important thing for me is having fun :)
Aww man that was a relaxing video! I do now want to make a lil board and try the game 😁 what did you use to make the actual board? Don’t think I heard you say.
@@ben_has_hobbies many thanks for the reply. I think Crooked Dice and Tabletop Art are going to get a lot of business from this video. I’ve already placed a large order with Crooked Dice and will be making a purchase from Tabletop Art now as well. Look forward to seeing more videos from you (not sure about the minis made of teeth video though!) Best wishes.
I know this will sound absurd nonsense to some if not most people but as someone who’s studied magick most of my life, this system could unintentionally perform an actual ritual of many a variety and could even verge on dangerous as art and storytelling are powerful mediums/conduits. Really not trynna sound all satanic panic strikes back and d&d will summon pet sodomizing demons or something, I absolutely love this as a concept and anything that further propagates the folk horror aesthetic more into war/tabletop gaming is just satisfying on a spiritual level for me personally. And while I highly doubt I’d be seeing posts on Reddit in the future talking about “turnip/ritual 28 broke into my house beat my son and stole my lawnmower” if I hadn’t said anything, just in case you never know 😅
I think I might need someone to explain the game to me again, because I don't think I understand what my choices or my interactions are, or am I simply trying to roll high enough to move my guys the roughly 8 moves required to get in a square and then roll 4+, four times to win? Am I missing something?
There is strategy in removing the opponents "attunement markers" when you attune in 1" of them. So there usually is some back and forth and a bit of strategy in that. But it is a very simple game. This video is more about the joy of making your own game. It is for sure no "Brass Birmingham" but making a lil band of worshippers and letting them dance can be fun. Thank you for commenting!
lovely video Ben
You're too kind, Bill. Thank you!
Very cool. It's like a playable diorama. Probably the one game my wife wouldn't mind being left out on the table!
Thank you! I tried with mine and it didn't quite work. Maybe I try a game with cute animals next.
my exact thoughts!
This was such a brilliantly relaxing vibe for the whole video. And those glamour shots at the end were something else!
Thank you, friend! It was a lot of fun making it. Tried out so much new video stuff. I'm glad it worked out :)
@ManglingMinis just wanted to say thanks for always liking my meh minis on the turnip discord ^^
@@3lectricdreams no mini is "meh" if you enjoyed making it 🫀
I've got a cup of coffee and a soft jumper. I'm about to have the coziest Sunday!
That sounds amazingly cozy! Thank you for watching!
I love the video, the game, the minis and your paintjob. Thank you!
Thank you for your kind words!
Ii had no idea that Crooked Dice did Morris Dance miniatures, I've been looking for something like this for years.
Yes, they do awesome stuff!
Same here, I've been looking for some to use in A War Transformed.

Really enjoyed this video. I want to make my own little Ritual28, and experiment a bit with rules!
Thank you! Please do! I am eager to find out how it went.
Awesome idea, the (war?)bands look very good! We need more non combat miniature games! :D
Thank you kindly! I'm working on a very peaceful game that will drop this winter :)

Thank you for taking the time :)
Just the idea is already brilliant. We're not far off from farm simulator28. TurnipFarmer28?!?!
This is honestly a great idea. Start an indoor herb garden and call it a farm sim TTRPG campaign. 😂
Thank you! Awesome idea. It would be awesome if you wrote that Farming game!

1. Playing Ritual28
2. Awakening the old one.

4. Profit.

It:s from the children of the field line from Crooked Dice miniatures.
