Not only are they showing how they're different, they're also showing what they share through the words they pass from one to the next. Diversity only makes us better and richer!

Speaking of Avi live, he's currently on his 2024 US tour, and this video was shot about a week ago in Atlanta, Georgia. He does an intro where he does the beginning of his iconic "Change on the Rise" in his basso profundo range, rattling drinks and audience members' bodies. Then he launches into one of my favorites of his - "Get Down". You'll hear how, when he does more profundo to loop for the later chorus, the audience member's phone can't handle the depth of the bass and distorts. (He was known more than once while in PTX to blow speakers at concerts.) Awesome. ruclips.net/video/dORvn7dJyQU/видео.html

I think this is one of the most significant videos they have produced, and it is timeless in its message of inclusivity and friendship. This was the first time Scott "came out" publicly, which took courage on his part. They are such beautiful people. I've watched this dozens of times and always get goosebumps.

Love this one so much, too! The other piece of trivia is that Scott has said in interviews that it was this same day, after filming this video (his "coming out publicly"), that he went to the birthday party where he first met Mark who is now his husband. All in all a pretty memorable day for him!

Imagine by Pentatonix may be one of the most important videos of this century. This group took a classic, timeless song of tolerance and peace and modernized it as only they can. They are a perfect example of what respect and love can be like. Five people with differences in race, religion, gender, and sexuality can do beautiful things when they work together. I cried when I saw and heard this the first time. I still usually tear up when they go into Wall of Sound mode.

😂 Scott is 6'4". Kirstin is 5'4". Mitch is 5'11", almost six feet tall, but people think of him as short because he's smaller than Scott. So both Kirstin and Mitch wear high heeled shoes to compensate.
I saw a video where they talked about it. Kirstin said she'd seen a video of Mitch wearing heels in an airport, which she would never do. Mitch said it was just that one time and he'd learned his lesson; he would never wear heels in an airport again.
Then Mitch said that whenever they have to walk down a ramp to go on stage he worries that the combination of the ramp angle and the added angle from her heels will make Kirstin fall.
Since then I've seen videos of the band walking down ramps - Mitch always grabs Kirstin's elbow to steady her.

This video was made shortly after one of the deadliest mass shootings in American history. A lone gunman entered a gay night club and killed nearly 50 people in a hate crime. There was a lot of talk from different groups saying a lot of either useless or flat out hateful things. I don't know if this video was made as a direct response, but I remember the atmosphere in America at the time and how affirming this song is. I cry every time I hear it.

We like to say that #Pentatonix doesn't do covers, they do upgrades, and for the most part it's true. But how do you upgrade a song that's already perfect? Well, if you're Pentatonix you look for a way to make that song more itself. In the case of "Imagine" Pentatonix treats the song and the song's writer with the utmost respect, and engages in a dialogue.
John Lennon saw that things like religion and nationality divide us, so he suggested that we get rid of those things. But Pentatonix sees that it isn't possible to get rid of religions and nations, so they propose another solution. You see, the real problem is something much deeper than religion, or nationality, or even money. The real problem is the human tendency to reject people who are different. So Pentatonix looks for ways around that problem, and then they show us how a healthy community deals with differences.
First Pentatonix looks for and finds the things they share with each other, the ways they're alike. And in the process they also find the things that make them individuals. And because they've already found the things that draw them together they can not only accept their differences but celebrate them. Doing that, looking at differences clearly and with love, gives them greater insight. It makes them a stronger, wiser, more compassionate community, and they all benefit from their diversity. Instead of dividing them diversity draws them together, until they can look at everyone and see the one thing that we all share - we're all human. And this means that when they meet someone who is very different indeed, in ways that otherwise might seem bizarre or dangerous, they can still see that fundamental truth, that we're all human, and we're all in this together.
Unlike everyone in Pentatonix, I'm old enough to have heard John sing "Imagine" live. And that means I'm old enough to have the evening news from December 8th, 1980 seared on my memory: John Lennon, dead. Killed by an assassin who ambushed him when he was coming home after an evening out with his wife, Yoko. For those of us who remember that night, the grief and shock remain as strong now as they were over 43 years ago.
John had only 40 years on this planet. We have no way to know what else he would have given us if he'd been able to live out his full life; all we know is what he DID give us, his perfect anthem, "Imagine." I wish he'd been able to see this video. It would have made him so proud.

      @lindastewart4768 Месяц назад +1

@@lindastewart4768 I never attended any concerts given by either The Beatles or John, but I saw them live (or nearly live) on television.
I'm a Unitarian Universalist - we believe one of the primary functions of a church should be to help each member find their own path, and then to support them in walking that path to the best of their ability. So we have members who are Jewish, Buddhist, Christian, Islamic, Wiccan, atheists, agnostics, etc. - anyone who wants to live a spiritual life, regardless of creed. We sing "Imagine" as a hymn. (Also, occasionally, "Octopus's Garden," just because we like it.)
Have you seen the movie named "Yesterday," from 2019? Some kind of weird cosmic event happens and the protagonist finds himself in an alternate universe where The Beatles never got together, and he appears to be the only person who remembers them. There's one marvelous scene where he visits John Lennon, who is 78 years old and has had a happy and productive life. Pure wish fulfillment.

Diversity is always relevant. Finding strength in diversity is always relevant. esp in todays society where everyone is polarized and finding weaknesses in those that are different . This group celebrates differences by showcasing each individual talent solo but then coming together with amazing sound of harmony which would not sound so full and amazing without their diversity. so if enjoy their harmony and arrangements, often showcasing a different member but always coming ether to show there's beauty in diversity and when in harmony with one another and not cross purposes can make an incredible sound. So yes, sir, diversity is ALWAYS relevant.

Someone else in the comments brought up the fact that this was the first time that Scott came out 'Publicly' and I love that for him. If you watch carefully, when Mitch hands his card to Scott, you can see that little thing passing between them, the look Mitch gives him as if he's saying, 'You got this!', and then the smile of relief and happiness on his face as he passes his card to Avi. It warms my heart to no end!

It may not be relevant to the song, but I always keep an eye on Kirstin's shoes - some of the ones she wears look like pure ankle-breakers to me!
This video, with the cards that get flipped, pointing out both their differences and similarities of the PTX members, makes a stunning statement - and the final reveal of "HUMAN" brings the point of the song home beautifully.

  • @donnone7295
    @donnone7295 22 дня назад

This was such a Transitional Day. Scott has always hated LABELS of any kind. He didn't want to be known as the lead star or the main character. This is another reason in most of their songs. There are 4 verses to give each individual a chance to shine.
Consider it was Scott that convinced Kirstin to drop out of Oklahoma State College, Scott convinced Mitch to miss his high school Graduation Ceremony. And of course the entire Kevin situation. Kevin was a couple of weeks away from finals and did Graduate from Yale University pre-med and a Scholars and speaks Mandarin fluently as he was planning to be a Doctor in Asia. So now he is a beatboxer while playing the Cello and can also sing. Kevin's 5th is an 18 minute break for the singers and gives Kevin his moments to shine. He had played at Carnegie Hall before he joined PTX.
This was also one of the very few production days where everything went according to plan and on time. Afterwards, Scott decided to stop by a friend's Birthday party because he had the time. That is where he met Mark -- source of his first two singles and original Album, and the man he married.
This was the band of misfits geek. Scott could get by as "dumb jock" except he was a theater geek with Mitch being his best friend since they met at age 10. . Mitch was out in middle school and may not have made it without Scott. Now Mitch makes Millions with that voice he has. Kevin was a bit socially awkward and spent time hising behind the Cello. Kirstie's Mom was a single parent and didn't have all the advantages. Pentatonix pays respect to John Lennon's legacy while showing us how relevant it is today.

PTX is amazing and they work hard to spread a positive message with their music. As a longtime PTX fan, I miss Avi but he made a decision and I respect that choice. I listen to his music and support his channel. Many groups don’t last as long as PTX has and I’m grateful that Matt came along. He’s talented and has worked hard to fit in the group while adding his own vocals to the new songs. Agree with another comment that a PTX playlist would be great. Please consider it. There is a live concert video where the band are singing Run To You and you can hear homophobic chanting in the background from outside the venue. All they did was sing louder.

Hi Guy! Sorry didn’t feel like reading all 80 comments so not sure if others have told you. Mitch is actually 5’10” and Kirstie came out as Bi-sexual. No matter how many times I watch this video,HUMAN gets me every time. I don’t even bother holding back the tears anymore. I consider this, not only one of their best videos, but one of their most impactful. In answer to your question about Avi I do not watch his channel. It’s been too hard for me even though I know it’s been almost 7 years. Sometimes it’s even sad when I watch PTX videos with him in it. 🤗💋🥰

I don't know if anyone mentioned this, but I believe this is when Matt came out. This video always brings a tear to my eye. So touching and it really brings John Lennon's message out today.

I have listened to some of Avi's solo stuff, and it is actually one of my favorite types of music -- acoustic folk-flavored singer/ songwriter. Some of my favorite artists are in that genre -- Leonard Cohen, Bill Staines, Joni Mitchell, Al Stewart, John Denver, Carole King, Dave Carter, etc. But although I love some of Avi's songs, most of them don't interest me.

😆👉👉Kirstie is NOT taller than Avi!!. First look at the platforms she is wearing (so is Mitch).
Now look at both Kirstie and Mitch being more forward towards the camera.
Avi is more to the back and in the middle of the taller members of the group.
    Makes him look shorter.
In the end of the video you can see Avi, Kitstie and Mitch about the same height.
Here are their heights, *You can translate them into British 😆*
    Scott 6' 4"
    Kevin 6' 1"
    Avi 5' 11"
    Mitch 5' 10"
    Kirstie 5' 4"
    ....Matt 6'
I always feel I have to defend Avi's height in this video LOL!!😂

Also, the fact that this was probably shot with a wide angle lens on the camera to get them all in frame as they're a bit spread out. That kind of lens creates an illusion of more distance, and making things in the distance look smaller. They way they're arranged in a slight curve with Avi the farthest back will make him look relatively shorter, so while he's about 5" shorter than Scott, the lens and camera angle emphasizes that difference even more.

Prefer the ptx version to the original from John Lennon! Their harmonies and the 'wall of sound ' make it for me.
Have you looked at Superfruit yet? Please check out 'Rise' by Katy Perry. It's absolutely beautiful n very emotional rendition. Done in response to a nightclub shooting incident.

I don’t listen to Avi’s solo music as he generally sings a style of music I don’t gravitate towards.
