- Michael Schack trying out a live played/triggered Mashup of music from the SquarElectric album & surprises on a Roland SPD-30 Octapad.
Check out the extras at the end of the movie as well...
Video capturing and editing by SquarElectric's Steve Pittoors.
Allways a joy to see this guy play.
you are the reason why i incorporated sampling into my drumming, great grooves man. Cant thank you enough.
Just bought the Octapad SPD-30 and I absolutely love it. Have been enjoying your videos on both the SPD-SX an SPD-30, thanks for being an inspiration.
MrPrincepop Thank you for watching and your inspiring comment. Cheers!
@mattahand Yes, Octapad through the fast USB MIDI connector straight into laptop with Ableton Live. And controlling the FX from Octapad as well. All drum sounds, cyms, percussion sounds are internal SPD-30 sounds though, only the bass line and vocals are external.
This was killer! Makes me want and Octapad!
Ik moet me dringend in Ableton gaan verdiepen.
Grtz
With a groove like that, duder definitely needs a LIGHTSHOW!!!!!!
Steve B Thanks! What about this one? ruclips.net/video/XhN65GjkLL4/видео.html

Very busy, I have a vision for you of something like this Octapad Mashup with all the wires and speakers out of the way, pads sprayed
in fluorescent paint and the red lights on the Octapad activated to go off when the pads are struck. Something simple and flowing behind you to give it visual colour and depth and there also needs to be some wardrobe design work done too. I'm putting in more time and effort now on my Octapad after watching your instruction videos, thanks for the inspiration Michael.
@pescalante2 Yes you can ! The full basic version of this mash up is available through iTunes or on hard copy CD. It's from my SquarElectric album, and the original track name is "Sex & Death". I'll send you a RUclips message with all ordering/listening details.
Amazing !!
Fantastic precision and energy you have on this piece. Great drumming! And it looks like great fun too!
@Monkeyrobb Thanks for the compliment. Yest you can, while using phrase looper, also trigger external sound modules. I'm doing it these days on demos etc. Works just fine !
...freak'n awesome man!
@glaklandy USB Midi connection to laptop/sampler for the bass line and the Vox. But all triggered live from Octapad + FX control also from Octapad. On top of that : synth sounds, sweeps, all drum sounds and FX are from internal sound banks Octapad. No drum sounds from external source. And no latency when triggering laptop either, as you can notice... USB MIDI / Octpad combination is now fastest on the market.
@GlobalStaticMedia Thanks for that ! Stay tuned for a new clip coming up - shooting one today... Happy holidays and a super 2011 to you !
Love to watch you play bro!
killer man,dig it.
I just bought one of those bad boys today. Can't wait to dive in.
i be getting a octapad they so awesome.
Very nice Super
Could you please tell me which updated version are you using???? And could you please upload the update file
@peteyherm Yes I did, but not into the SPD-30. It's not a sampler, so I'm triggering them straight (together with the internal sounds) from a laptop (Ableton Live). If you want to sample or trigger those within the same multipad, you need the SPD-SX. Check out my new SPD-SX clips here on RUclips !
Dear sir, my name is Manoj, I am from India (Calcutta), I have a new Roland SPD20pro Octapad. I wants to see the demonstration in this instrument to you. Thank you sir you are awesome.
very good song
hello friend......! thank you so much for the SDD30 demo........! i will buy the SPD 30... but iam in india...! what is the price the pad?
Play it like ya stole it!! Cool video thank you.
I've watched all your videos about 10 times and must say that you are an inspiration to drummers who want to step out from the shadows! Can the phrase looper in the SPD-30 control other sound modules such as a synth brain? And can you access the phrase looper from another midi device (such as a zendrum?)
@64jcl Thank you - it is fun indeed. If you want to check out some play along songs, check out my artist page on reverbnation. Merry Chirstmas !
A great fan of yours. Love from india 😊
Gandhar Thiady Thank you! Love back from Belgium.
Michael Schack heheheheheee... Wowwww😍😍😍
Hey just wondering, does the kick pedal also control those hi hat sounds? How did you get the open/close sound out of it? I couldn't tell if you were hitting 2 different pads for each sound. Cheers.
ikilltrees666 I control open/closed by velocity layer on one and the same pad. You can also edit the threshold point where they alternate. So no pedal involved!
Michael Schack oh man that's awesome. You're a shredder dude.
Yeah Man
Hi Mike, great drumming! Let me ask you, which kit is this? More than that, which snare drum are you using? This doesn't seems to be any of the SPD-30 snares... maybe its the LOOSE SNARE mixed with another snare? Or its the LOOSE SNARE Tweeked? I have SPD-30, love it, but I'm trying yo get a different snare sound.. like this one you have... was wondering if you still have this kit to share? Or am I asking too much? ( ; Thank you for being an inspiration for all of us drummers.
Heston’s got some chops.
Dear Michael are all the sounds coming only from the Octapad ? Are you triggering other sounds from a PC ? I also see that you use a USB key. I own an Octapad and I don't really see where I can find all that. Thanks for your help ;-)
Vincent Binon All drum sounds are only coming out of Octapad! No tricks, no hidden PC's. The music loops and vocals I'm triggering directly from Octapad are coming out of a connected laptop theough the USB Midi feature. Grtz
So this is cool stuff man. oftewel vet gaaf.
Sick
which electronic pad (bass drum) is that? have you seen the model of thomas lang that is switch to the front and the pedal also is switched, do you know the model? nice beats btw.
Roland KD-9
Is there a way to do something similar with the SPD-S and Ableton? I assume a MIDI to USB adapter would be involved, as well as some mapping in Ableton, but would I be able to play the on-board drum sounds as well?
why us the phase loop thing on the wall behind him?
@michaelschack :
* Welke laptop/sampler gebruik jij?
* Is het mogelijk om de naam van het instrument weergegeven op de octapad te wijzigen? Ik vind het vervelend dat alle noten van bvb klokkenspel 'Glock' heten. Een oplossing, hoe ingewikkeld ook is welkom :-).
didnt know it was that powerful
Hello can u help me ? I have spd 30 i use kd 7 kick...in fact i use the default set up for external kick
My sound engineer told me to make the kick more dynamic n more bass so that it can be played on the bass sound system.
I used linear..which one is more dyanamic n bass exp, spline, log or loud ?
Means les attack more bass....
Please sort me out of this problem
Means the crossover low frequency for kick needs to be more than high frequency. Thank you for the consideration
Keshav kesh Hi, I use linear all the time! I love playing with power and have maximum attack and impact from my own movement. If you want to have a continuous maximum sound level, you should go for LOUD. Hope this helps!
would it be possible to use the octapad to trigger samples on the SPD-SX and have them sequenced in the octapads phrase loop mode? thanks
I just bought one, and I was wondering if I could create new kits, rather than replacing one of the 50 pre-existing kits. Is there a way? Love your stuff! You helped me figure out what to buy! :)
Really good and groove track. Could you show me how you made it?
i lobbe de yu!
can you break this down? Are you using MIDI to trigger loops/samples in a DAW?
how is he getting that continous loop playing from one pad?????????? help????
Hi Michael, how can I use external samples on my spd-30?can be done using a SPDX?other ways?you can charge external samples on the usb memory card, or this is only for internal memory? ciao!
This is pretty cool... I play on my octopad all the time and am pretty well versed on how to use it, but I have no idea how this is done. How do you change between loops and start another one like that? Is there a video tutorial on this? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
did you get any tutorial? i need to know the same thing. HELP.
Stefan Allard I connected an Ableton session with some vocals and loops(bass) through the USB MIDI connection on Octapad. Just assign the MIDI note channels and numbers from Octapad to the external samples in the laptop and there you go! Grtz
dude did you upload your own samples? I've been trying to figure out how since I got it, am about to trade it in for a spd-s but if i can sample my own sounds i wont do that
1:11 this beat is awesome!!!!
hey michael can i connect this to an ableton push 2 using midi usb
Shivanand Gunness Yes! Any MIDI gear will be connectable. Grtz
Super ding! ;) Moest ik geld hebben, ik schaf er me direct eentje aan! @ 2.15 luistert hij precies niet zo goed meer ;) Zeker teveel slaag gekregen ;)
DAAAAAMN I need this song, I'd listen to it all the time while driving if it lasted longer, can I get this song anywhere?
maaaan, uw videos zijn vet ! Hoe gij nog tijd hebt voor zo'n dinges ?!
哗!!!!!!!!
Hii brother
Can I want to learn how to connect midi from SPD 30 to SPD sx plzz
Simple : SPD-30 MIDI out to SPD-SX MIDI IN, then select pad or global settings on both and connect MIDI channel number you want to use, then connect pad note numbers. Please check manual as well - every pad layer on SPD-30 can send out different MIDI channel and note number, so this way you can select the correct pad/sample to follow in SPD-SX. Good luck!
@@michaelschack tnq brother
peise dat we gene td20 kx nog gaan zien live on stage haha
you should put up a tutorial on how to trigger with spd-30 from ableton live. ive tried but cannot get it to work, my spd-30 settings might be incorrect
@thesoulbinders somwhere yep, and 90% SquarElectric sounds
Hi Michael! Well, My SPD 30 got here today. I stopped playing drums about 5 years ago after a case of Tinnitus. Not even sure now if it was from my 20 years of drumming, or meds for a bad sinus infection. Anyway, I'm very excited to get playing again this way first, then maybe a kit. Question: Everything done in this video "sounds" all come from the unit? I bought a kick pad & pedal. Should I go for a Boss FS-5u next? I want to jam @ the house and make YT vids. Thanks! You have me fired up! :-)
Can I roland spd30 to import WAV format
khaled meliani Hi, no import WAV into TD-30. You can use SPD-SX or TM-2 for this function. Cheers!
sir please tell me how I play loop in my spd-30 like spd-sx single loop in a kit & sir am regular watching your videos it's amazing
Manish Kumar You need to connect a laptop with USB and combine internal
SPD-30 sound with laptop sample loop. You cannot import audio sample into SPD-30, only possible with SPDSX.
thanks sir
og my god !!
im maria thats so freaking awesome im into music and i wanna learn everything about music dj ect singer dancer whatever but thats great u should give me some videos so i can listen to if u dnt mind
@frefa1994 Inderdaad :-)
i mean you are roland and you produce this great multi pad device, you upload hunderds of great videos of it on youtube, and then you say "no it can not sample." and i say are you kidding me?!
rahul barot
This guy is good but he's got one speed that's fast and high energy. One dimensional drummer. But very good electronic drummer for sure.
Jake Lozano I’ve never been called a one dimensional drummer before:-) This? ruclips.net/video/odshYz_Dp7o/видео.html
