- The Mike Schneider Band traveled to Cleveland, OH, in 2006 to participate in Tony Petkovsek's annual Thanksgiving Weekend Polka Party. Here's the medley of originals we played during the awards show for the National Cleveland Style Polka Hall of Fame on Saturday, November 26, 2006. Mike Schneider - accordion; Chris Doszak - drums; Don Hunjadi - sax and flute; Cliff Penniston - banjo; Jerry Zagar - bass.

I grew up with this music especially since we hosted Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest and many years spent at the Concordia Club in Kitchener. I never get tired of listening to the accordion or the steirische accordion.
I miss this type of music. Makes us feel so happy today. Polkas always beautiful to listen. mos60
Absolutely I miss this type of music. I can always dance polka and waltz
Thanks, Rosie! If you're looking for a fun polka and waltz stocking stuffer, be sure to check out my new "Christmas Kielbasa" CD and digital album at www.mikeschneiderband.com/christmas. Thanks for watching!
What does it is the deft fingers and the polka-jazz fusion. The great ones go back to post WWII.
Thanks for watching the video, Tom, and for your kind words!
EXCELLENT SOUND JERRY ZAGAR MOST USED BASS PLAYER IN THE POLKA FIELD HE SOUNDS SO GOOD
surely one of the best . Follows Mike on accordion very nice note for note .
What a wonderful band. Hope they come to California one of these days. Way to go Mike Schneider and band.
Folks in mid west USA really enjoy the polka fests. Everyone looks happy. mos60
Nice Cleveland-Style Slovenian Music...brings back many welcomed memories as a 2nd-generation American.
Thanks for the kind words, Sandra - glad you enjoyed the medley!
@@MikeSchneiderBand I also played in a polka band...mid-to-late 1970s in Mansfield Ohio. My heart belongs to this music & one fine day, I'll join all the musicians I shared the stage with in a Glorious Reunion!
Hope to be there with you, @@sandralouden6463! Happy Holidays to you and thanks again.
This has become my favorite polka/waltz medley to listen to! I sit down at the computer, pull up this video, and it just makes my day better! You go from being concerned with the worries of this world to just being happy. Good job, Mike!
Nice to hear some originals. Grew up in Cleveland & I love the well known ones, but it is nice to hear new ones. Thank you.
A szakszofonos nagyon jó!
Nice polka medley from mike shneider geetings from the netherlands greetings
Thanks for your kind words, Ronald. Greetings from the USA - hope all is well across the big pond!
What a great sound, lots of talent
Thank you very much - glad you enjoyed the video!
I love it !! There should be more bands like you !!! Keep it up 4 thumbs up !!
Thanks, David, and for all the airborne thumbs - hope all is well!
Good job of copying the "Cleveland Style" with the use of a banjo & sax (just like Pecon/Trebar did ages ago). I'm glad that there are some young guys continuing the traditions and sounds. Most of the Polka bands I listened to as a kid (when I was brought to various weddings by my parents) are now gone. Even my uncle (inducted into the Cleveland Polka Hall of Fame) has been gone for nearly 15 years. I was recently shocked to find that George Suhon had passed away, and he wasn't even 60. We need more young polka bands to carry on ...
Thanks for the kind words, Bill - I appreciate it. I didn't realize George Suhon had passed away, either. That's far too young. Thanks again for taking the time to watch my video, Bill. Take care!
very good fromAustralia
California is a long trip from Wisconsin, but I'd love to make the trip over. Pass on the good word, and thanks for your support!
Very kind of you, AccordionMaster47 - glad you're enjoying our music!
Thanks for the comment - glad you enjoyed the tunes and original music! Be sure to check out the Music page on my website for CDs featuring all the songs I've written, plus a lot of new takes on older traditional tunes. Take care and thanks again!

Congratulations on being voted 2017 New Song of the Year 'Happy Polka Day'. We're lifetime members of National Cleveland Style Polka Hall of Fame.
Hope your CD gets picked for CD of the year!
Thank you very much for your kind words and support. So glad to hear "Happy Polka Day" was picked for best new song. Hope it works out for the CD, too! And, hope to see you at the Awards Show later this month! Thanks again!
Great sax player.
He is indeed, Joel - Don Hunjadi is one of the best! Thanks for the comment!
I usually don't like Slovenian music, but this is awesome!
Always glad to win over a new fan to the style! Good meeting you a couple years back in Northern IL, too!
Thanks for the comment, Nick - Don's a great player!
Love the Cleveland style hope to see your band at the Illinois Polkafest soon
Thanks for your comment, Too Many Minds! Please put in the good word for me in Illinois - it would be great to play there! Thanks again.
PintSizePolkas
Will do!
sweet stuff
Thanks, Joe - I appreciate it!
good music
Hi Mike - Do you know of anyone who has a decent professional accordion that they would be willing to sell? I've been looking for a while now, but I'd rather deal with someone I trust. Let me know! Thanks.
Time Warner Cable? Are you now on Spectrum Cable? I am from Mansfield, Ohio. What Channel Position would you have on Spectrum, please?
Thanks for the comment, Michael! The Polka Hall of Fame used to broadcast their awards show on local access TV if I remember correctly, hence the Time Warner logo. I'm not sure if they still do that or not. Either way, thanks again for the comment - hope you enjoyed the medley!
Great polka. Mike must taken lessons from Frankie Yankovic. or Joey Miskulin. mos60
Thanks for the kind words - two of my favorites there! I'd give my left pinky to play like Joey. I think that's the only one I could sacrifice and still have a snow ball's chance of keeping up! Thanks again and enjoy the music.
I believe Joey still with "Riders in the Sky" band. BTW, a second accordion would really sound great. The bass player didn't miss a beat. Awesome player. thx. mos60
Indeed he is, although he's starting to show up at a few more polka festivals and doing a few jazz events, as well. No better accordion player out there. And the bass player, would you believe that's the one and only time he played with us? He's a DJ friend of mine and had just gotten done drumming with Joe Grkman beforehand. I usually play my own bass, but decided for the awards show it would be better to have a bass player. He really did a phenomenal job considering the tunes were all original and he hadn't played them live with us previously. For some good second accordion work, check out some of the tunes I posted here on RUclips with Scott Koehn from our "Live on the Mollie B. Polka Party!" DVD. Have a great weekend!
Hey what about current Mike Schneider stuff. We are not locked down you know.
You are right! I've busy performing in person events, so please be sure to check the schedule and events pages at www.mikeschneiderband.com and www.pintsizepolkas.com to see where you can catch me in person this summer. Hope to see you soon!
@@MikeSchneiderBand I also played in many many bands before covid but because I didn't follow government orders and take the shot up here in Canada. God gave us the talent and the free will to do it. I simply won't let any burocrat government person tell me what I can or cannot do. We had what they call accordian jamboree up here in Saskatchewan I backed up accordian players on guitar. I miss this kind of music. I currently am slowly getting back playing with the classic country and rock band I played with before covid. Thank You Mike for reaching out. I was so devastated when I couldn't play anymore nobody wanted to be around me.
