Spectacular, brilliant, charming, mega, hyper talented, sensational, musical, artistic phenomenon !!! People this person was not from this world! There are no words that define so much talent. I never imagined that there was an artist as perfect as Caterina Valente.❤️🥺👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Caterina Valente - A stunning artist, incredible skilled. No matter, if in many German films of the 50s, or worldwide on the stage/TV shows....what a woman, what a time. The world today is against simply unsupportable.....
This number is brilliant from start to finish. Valente and Kaye make it look so easy - but it's not. The keys are constantly changing and the melodies intersect at just the right time. The backing vocals are delicate and perfectly balanced. And what about Valente's skilled guitar playing. I love seeing Danny in this gentle, relaxed mode. Thank you!
Ah u guys are being technical... Valente has probably the best "feel" for Bossa of any non-Brasilian i've heard (and she was raised in Germany), however the rest is rather mechanical... including K. i love DK but Bossa feel is beyond the Anglo Saxon, sorry, it's the opposite of their cultural spectrum (why Anglos can't dance to save their life and ranked as the worst lovers etc etc).
At 3:00 it seems a lead guitar is added, but it isn't Caterina. It's so imperceptible, but look closely at Caterina's hands at 4:06. Listen closely to the lead guitar line and watch Caterina's fingers afterwards. Still, great performance. I'd be amazed if she could concentrate on those guitar lines and the lyrics.
And a real gem especially for those of us who just recently (like in the past few hours) stumbled upon this woman and her talent. Adapting the children’s songs to Bossa Nova and Jobim works surprisingly well. Kaye could sometimes come across as slightly cloying but not here. He’s a gentle and responsive accompanist to Caterina.
Agreed! I've only recently come across Caterina, but Danny was one of my very first celebrity crushes. I've never understood why people my age didn't also watch classic movies and listen to the "oldies," and so few people I speak to (even as an adult) know who the classics are. :/
A question out of frustration: Why does this brilliance have 13 thousand views, and so much caterwalling crap has 13 million views or maybe 13 billion views?
Because most young people never heard of her and so are spoon fed the most easily reproducible commodity. As an older musician,if ordering tea,if I say “ tea for two and two for tea and me for you and you for me” etc, the young person serving us will always look as if I am a crazy misfit! They will have no idea about the song!
It's because of the "MacDonaldisation" of Music and a lack of musical education. On a side note: I was so fortunate to have been in the band that accompanied her at a gala event in Berlin in 1978. Her then husband Roy Budd was the musical director and pianist... unforgettable..!
Sadly in Germany, Austria and switzerland where in those days jazz or latin american music wasnt received very well Valente is mostly known as a schlagermusik star. The german labels somehow wasted her talent forcing her into very commerical musical roles and valente became the voice of the superficial german wirtschaftswunder of the 50ies and 60ies. America and france allowed her to show us much more of her great talents.

In the 1960s, Caterina received an offer that would have kept her in the United States for a long time and made her the biggest star in entertainment. But she refused and wanted to go back to Europe. That was her biggest mistake. Unfortunately, that is also true.
How the heck does one remember ALL these changes for this arrangement?? It's one thing to know all the tunes. Sure, easy for any true Pro. But all these switches? Geez! was absolutely incredible.
Thanks Alan, for another wonderful 'blast from the past'. Caterina, 87, is still hanging in there. Danny had the quick wit and multiple talents needed to thrive on live TV, and so many other accomplishments it seemed almost unfair one guy could be so gifted.
If I'm correct Maestra played Hauser classical guitars, based on the shape of the headstock. Very clean right hand technique. Her vocals feature excellent diction, clarity, dynamic quality, and she's dead on in tune. We don't see vocalist/guitarists of this caliber any more...
