2013 Polka Visionary Personality of the Year Interview with Ivo Baldoni
Просмотров 137Месяц назад
In this video, we celebrate National Accordion Month by revisiting the year 2013, when I interviewed my friend and accordion maker extraordinaire, Ivo Baldoni. Ivo is now enjoying semi-retirement, so some of the topics discussed are outdated, but it's still a great opportunity to gain insight into a true master of one of polka music's most important trades. Be sure to check out the Polka Vision...

Steve Meisner was my 20th annual Polka Visionary Personality of the Year. We recorded this interview back in late November 2022. At the time, this was intended for Polka Visionary Society members only. But with Steve's recent passing, I'm making it available here along with a few short stories in my video introduction, as well as a few bonus clips that weren't able to fit in the original versio...

Mike Schneider Plays the Italian Nights Waltz
Просмотров 6642 года назад
Happy National Polka Day! Today at the request of Taron from Canada, I'm playing Hank Thunander's "Italian Nights Waltz." This is another song that starts in the key of E (not my favorite). Hope you enjoy it, and that I did Hank's creation justice. It's a great song! Plus, listen to me prattle on for a bit about a few of my many upcoming gigs. Glad to be back out doing what I'm supposed to be d...

Congratulations to my friend and longtime music associate, Don Hunjadi on being named to this year's list of International Polka Association award winners! Today, I play his "Hawg Wobbler Polka," and also celebrate my 25th anniversary of playing polka music professionally (an event that almost escaped me this year)! Thank you for all your support, and hope you enjoy this week's video!

Today I play one of my very favorite Verne Meisner waltzes of all time, the "Paradise Waltz." It starts in the key of D and goes in all kinds of fun places from there. Thanks again, Verne :) I hope you enjoy this week's unplugged video!
Mike Schneider Plays the 707 Polka, and Wishes Walter Ostanek a Happy Birthday!
Просмотров 5273 года назад
Sorry I missed last week's scheduled video time. I'm even more sorry I missed Canada's Polka King Walter Ostanek's birthday! Hope to make up for both today with a song I just learned, which just happens to be Walter's #1 song when you look him up on Spotify. Enjoy the "707 Polka!"
Mike Schneider Plays the Island Hop Polka
Просмотров 3883 года назад
Today I realized that since I started doing these videos, I have not done a single Bob Timko song. That ends right now, as I play for you his original tune, the "Island Hop Polka," a fairly simple tune complicated by the fact that it was written in F sharp. Thank you, Bob. Enjoy the video!
Mike Schneider Plays El Rio Drive
Просмотров 8573 года назад
Today I play Verne Meisner's "El Rio Drive" on my Dad's old Baldovox, and accordion very similar to one Verne played during the mid to late 1980s and early '90s. Plus, I do a short version of the song in the Tex-Mex style, and also send out special birthday wishes to Violet! Happy Friday, and enjoy this week's video!
Mike Schneider Plays the Whoop Polka

Today I play the lead off song from most of the Pint Size Polkas shows that I do, and also tell a little story about a surprise I got in the mail regarding the tune. (Sorry for being a little longer winded than normal!) Thanks to Richard Adler, Frankie Yankovic, Joe Trolli and Johnny Pecon for writing a great song!
Mike Schneider Plays Take Me Out to the Ballgame

Today I play "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" in honor of the start of the baseball season, and for fellow accordion players John Smolz Sr. and Jr. (yes the World Series-winning, Hall of Fame pitcher). Happy Spring, Happy Easter, and enjoy this week's video!

Vern Meisner did one of the early versions in 1960s. I think his is the best interpretation.
Wonderful job, Mike! Would you have the sheet music for this tune?
Thank you! You'd want to get in touch with Hank Thunander for the sheet music. I'm not sure if it's available, but he's the composer, and he did a great job writing a beautiful song. Glad you liked it!
Awesome!
Great accordion music.
Thank you, and glad you enjoyed it!
Geweldig mooi gespeeld👏👏👏
Thank you very much!
Today was the first time I heard this beautiful waltz on a Dutch 'pirate music' station and immediately fell in love with it. It is a beautiful melody and has many key changes (if I say that correctly) making it really beautiful
Thanks, Jos! Verne Meisner did a great job with this song. Lots of key changes, for sure! Thanks for watching!
@@MikeSchneiderBand it was a pleasure, as I love these waltzes a lot
@@joszandstra2044 Thanks again, Jos!
A Great song to drum to!

Thanks, David! I was so glad Steve was able to do this interview with me. Glad you enjoyed it! Rest in peace, Steve Meisner.
🙏 Rest In Peace Cuz❤️🩹🎩🖤
Interesting to here the Cleveland-style adaptation of this Avsenik song. The original song by Avsenik is called 'Prav fletno se imamo' which roughly translates to 'We are having a good time' and the German title is 'Dreimal drei ist neune'. Great playing Mike.
Love this polka, suits the accordion you've got perfectly. Please can you tell me where I can get the sheet music. Many thanks.
My musical Mount Everest, my teacher, and my friend. Still in shock. It’s really nice to hear his voice and more of his stories.
Glad you got to listen to this, Theodore. You have my sympathies. Steve was one of a kind!
Me Steve& Mark at the family reunion 12-13 years old sneaking uncles dandelion wine😂😂😂
Hey what about current Mike Schneider stuff. We are not locked down you know.
You are right! I've busy performing in person events, so please be sure to check the schedule and events pages at www.mikeschneiderband.com and www.pintsizepolkas.com to see where you can catch me in person this summer. Hope to see you soon!
@@MikeSchneiderBand I also played in many many bands before covid but because I didn't follow government orders and take the shot up here in Canada. God gave us the talent and the free will to do it. I simply won't let any burocrat government person tell me what I can or cannot do. We had what they call accordian jamboree up here in Saskatchewan I backed up accordian players on guitar. I miss this kind of music. I currently am slowly getting back playing with the classic country and rock band I played with before covid. Thank You Mike for reaching out. I was so devastated when I couldn't play anymore nobody wanted to be around me.
Thanks.
Well played! My band once covered for Rodger Bright two nights at the New Glarus Hotel while Rodger Bright's band was on the road.
What does it is the deft fingers and the polka-jazz fusion. The great ones go back to post WWII.
Thanks for watching the video, Tom, and for your kind words!
You just never have enough! 😁
"I eat 'til I'm stuffed!" :)
GREAT! I'm playing along!
Mein Vater war ein Wandersmann 👍

I wish you can notate this wonderful rendition? So we can learn from you and try to play like you. Is there a way to get the notation?

Beer barrel polka
Sounds like a Slovenian waltz or parts of it was it or played as such
Thanks, Michael. It's a German Waltz, but since I play the Slovenian style, that's the way it came out sounding. Hope you enjoyed it!
Good job Mike! Greetings from New Braunfels. Come visit the Polka capital of Texas!
I played the library down there in 2018 or '19 I think, and had a great visit - one of my favorite stops that summer. Hope to get back down that way again in the not-too-distant future! Thanks for watching!
As an old keyboard player I never understood some of the old box players fascination with the black keys. More power to you. Great display of versatility. Keep em coming!!!
Thanks, Eric! I think we all start off learning in C, and some of us don't venture too far from that in either direction, especially to the sharps. There are definitely keys I prefer and/or do much better in, but it's always a fun work in progress. Thanks again, Eric, and have a great week!
I NEED A NEW ACCORDION
THATS HARD TO PLAY. YOUR GOOD MIKE
Thanks for the kind words - George wrote a great song!
