It’s time for a BMW v BMW drag race… Well, kind of!
Lining up alongside Mat we have the new BMW M440i. Powered by BMW’s B58 engine, this 3-litre 6 cylinder engine can produce 374hp and 500Nm.
As for Mat, he’s sat in the 3-litre Toyota Supra. But as we all know by now, this is no ordinary Toyota… It’s also powered by the same B58 engine as found in the M440i! However, unlike the BMW, the Supra produces just 340hp... Although at least the torque is the same, at 500Nm.
So, given they’re both powered by the same engine, you’d expect them to offer similar performance, right? Well for starters, the M440i is AWD, compared to the Supra's RWD. But will it make a significant difference? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE!

@@SERii0US1 well yea if you're trying to see how the cars truly stack up against each other, you would want to try it until you both get a proper start. Plus you would want to have multiple races to make sure the results are the same.

Idk why every time the use the supra in a new video it runs slower, the best time of the bmw was 12.1 and the first time they raced the supra vs the z4 the supra did 12.0s

@@brandonhair4681 While I agree with you, I'm not sure that BMW actually sells the new standard M4 in the UK, I'm pretty sure it's just the competition trim that is sold here. Also, in response to the person above, I feel like the cars themselves weren't a biased pick from any of the manufacturers, they are all very competent and within around £10K of each other (the Audi being the cheaper option) however the need to race again when the BMW didn't win could be considered biased I guess? I just thought of it as them showing what the car is fully capable of on the dry patch of runway, because it is impressively fast on a dry surface.

Do One compared to tons of cars, 385hp is pretty damn good for a non M car especially bone stock. The B58 engine is one of if not the best tuner engines on the market right now, you can hit 500 wheel hp with full bolt on for under $2000 in mods. They’ve got this engine pushing 1,000hp now.
Actually it’s proven BMW is always lying a bit about the power of their engines 🙃 I expect this one to have around 400hp
Going on last week's M4 vid, only 0.4 slower over the 1/4 than the M4 (though rwd). M4 xdrive is going to be a wee beasty over the 1/4

I’d love to know what the BMW’s first two times were. Kind of annoying how he runs the race until his car gets the best time but we don’t know what the other cars best time was. That third drag race looked like the absolute worst time for the BMW.

The M440 actually has a 48V semi hybrid assist lower down unti the turbo spools, even besides awd its kinda a given.

Hi Matt, they both aren’t same engines. M440i is carrying B58TU1 where supra has B58. B58TU1 is first technical upgrade version 1 of this engine. It carries different sized turbo and different cooling system than normal B58.

@Tge Novice Gamer It's always like a horsepower war or performance war. Underpowered in performance car market almost always means failure. Unless you have some special character.
In this case E53 got the design and luxury advantage so it might work. Cars like S6 and Panamera GTS and Panamera Turbo in the upper market are a total failure.
@@jamisonz3365 The S6 is pretty much crap (in my opinion). Audi calls it a performance car, but instead gives it a diesel engine and it doesn't even produce 400 horsepower! It doesn't look very nice either.

But, the 440i needs 12.1 seconds for the 1/4 mile here. The new M4 took 11.7 seconds, RS5 12.0 and the C63S even 12.9 seconds last week. So is the 440i as fast as an M4, faster then the RS5 and almost a second faster than the AMG?
yeah that thing is quicker than most people think, there are a few dyno videos and they push over 400hp stock, plus that AWD makes it really fast 1/4 mile

The gearbox in the M440i is far superior, proven in the auto kick down rolling race. And even though it has 4WD and 37 more HP, it's also 500 lb heavier which should have easily balanced out the extra 37 HP. I'll take the M440i plz

@@danieljakobsen1289 the problem of the supra is actually the rear suspension which provides terrible traction, so it's toyotas fault. the B58 is a beast.

This video has me thinking... Are these results by design, hmmm... Just watched a video from a year ago, where Mat raced the Supra against the Z4, the Supra done the standing quarter mile in 12.0 seconds dead yet here all of a sudden the performance is poor...
Watching the response and reaction time, it does seem like or rather I find that the results here are indeed by design. Just my thoughts, I support this by watching the brake lights in conjunction with when the hands drop, there seems to be a delay...
Mat you not doing justice to both cars here by doing that...
