If you wanna know the threshold.... when I worked up my 35gr NTX load in my non-threaded Ruger 57 barrel, I didn't get case failures until slightly more than 2300fps. You read that correctly. This Fiocci load is GROSSLY down-loaded.
how many grains? what powder?
@EssPhour Looking at my notes, I load them to right at 2150fps, which at a COAL of 1.58", takes 6.4gr of True Blue. I ran them as high as 6.8gr, which is where I had a case separation at a velocity of 2318fps.
What powder & charge? And, any chance you have any video of that? I have watched a video of a guy that stepped through .1gr increments for the Accurate#7 posted data for 35gr VMAX (if that somehow makes the difference vs NTX), which their max-charge listed stops at 8.2gr (2197 fps), and that was blowing out primers at just under 2200 fps. I'd love to see actual loads of 35 gr going 2300 or at least into the 2200s. That would make the Vanguard 34 gr Black Fang look like chump-change in 2000s.
This Fiocchi was painful to watch.
@@whiplash636 Thanks for the info. I should have refreshed before posting a reply...Kid distracted me so it took me an hour to get through watching this.
@@whiplash636 And I do have to say that now I am very curious about the NTX, and if they are indeed that much faster than the 35 gr VMAX given the same amount of powder. That same charge you mentioned of 6.4 gr is listed on the Hodgdon site as max of TB and being 2007 fps.
As always Matt, thank you for reviewing 5.7x28mm for the people!
You are most welcomed!
On a positive note...this once-fired brass could perhaps be the best of any for reloads, given how little they are getting stressed.
Thanks for the vid. Saved us the time, money & hassle of testing it ourselves.
Our pleasure !
Loving the two 5.7 videos in two days!
Great content as always 👍 Love to see more 5.7 ammo and tests!
Nothing is worse than weak 5.7/10mm ammo, while charging a premium price 😡
I was really hoping these rounds would be scooting. Looks like they aren't that spicy.
they are trash, 5.7 cant be under 2000 fps, they are most effective tumbling, not this expansion garbage.
@@steveharper5368 I'd love to find a factory load that shoots anywhere near 2000 fps in the PSA rock.
@@TheOldFatDadGoober Elite Ammunition S4 should be over 2300 fps in the Rock. iirc Jay advertises them as 2400 fps from the slightly longer FN 5.7 barrel.
Glad to see there is another manufacturer making these. Hope they get this 35gr load figured out because we need more options on the shelves...
Well done. Thanks a bundle
You are most welcome
Thx Matt..ill stick to fn VA guard and elite ammo for 5.7 needs..so many makers are scared to give full power loads..reminds me 10mm auto and Norma had the true hot loads and some corbon loads were hot..everyone else backed off to short n wimpy (40s&w ) performance ..hopefully they bump this up for the price you're better off with fed ae lol
They should. Or they’ll sink this load.
Thanks for the test! This stuff was more money than the AE stuff. Glad I didn’t waste my money. Appreciate it!
Kind of a disappointment. Was really expecting a bit more velocity out of those. Even more surprised that the longer AR PCC barrel didn't ensure smooth cycling.
Only a bit more? These are well over 30% slower than premium/hot 5.7 ammo. I'm not sure I would buy them for plinking even if they were under $0.50/round.
Glad to see them bring out some different weight bullets for this caliber. My Ruger LC carbine is quite a fun gun and more ammo choices float my boat! If you find a better trigger I want to know.
Oi thanks buffman
Seems like alot of manufacturers are either cheaping out on the powder charge or just afraid to load most of these 5.7 loads to their full potential 🤔
Matt I have both Rugers, and the psa mags work great in both
Yes they indeed do!
I just got 5 PSA mags for mine.
That’s pretty sad, years ago Fiocchi FMJ’s in 9MM were pretty highly regarded.
What's sad the 5.7 in a pistol maxes out at 2300 fps and on the low end is 1600
This is the kinda of stuff that makes me glad I went the way the way I did when picking a cartridge in this department.
Yeah?
@@BuffRANGE I went with 22 tcm. Offers comparable velocity but more energy and at half the price. Around here they have had plenty of it since 2021. I guess nobody around likes it or doesn't know about it
@@trashedmechanic1987 mainly because there’s only 1 round in 22 TCM. I’ve tested 22TCM and it’s bullet can’t penetrate soft armor. Many types of 5.7 can.
@@BuffRANGE there are 2 types of factory bullet for it. A 39gr and a 40gr. Also it can be reloaded with the same bullets as the 5.7 if your looking for that.
@@trashedmechanic1987 my understanding was those 2 bullet types are used because powder charge is compressed. I’ve never seen load data for a majority of the longer .224” that 5.7 uses Because of OAL constraints or powder charge would way down.
Not sold on the 35 gr. 40 gr from them is what I expect for FPS. 35 gr was about the same and thus, failures.
I have to say out of my brand new LC carbine this stuff is super accurate .
at what distance and what groups are you getting?
@@BuffRANGE I just got the gun today and I fired one group at 50 yards and it measured .34 inches center to center. I put a 1 -6 scope on it and was at 6 power.
@@billm2078 3 or 5 shot group?
@@BuffRANGE 3, with a 5.7 who can afford 5 shot groups! Now maybe it was a fluke but I picked up my LC carbine from the dealer this morning put my scope on and sighted it in. But it sure looks like a winner.
A day after I sighted it in I took 3 raccoons withthese and they performed well.
Have you picked up the S&W MP 5.7? The wife will love it 😅
Good thing you beeped that out. Numbers are scary and dangerous😮.
I heard people are also screwing tubes together. Can you imagine?
LOL apparently YTube back peddled their decision, but I guess for now, better safe than sorry.
I got the same sort of performance out of Fiocchi in my 9mm Walther PPS and 380 in my Kahr CM380.
Your content is appreciated.
I’m just not sold on 5.7 right now. Also you might want to edit this video our overlords the tube of you say you can’t show loading a gun/mag and they might give a strike
All of those mags are only 3rd mags 🤭
Thanks for the vid! Glad I didn’t pull the trigger on this stuff
Glad I could help
👎🏻 was hoping for more velocity
Me too.
They seem to just keep making them weaker and weaker which makes these guns unreliable and potentially unsafe.
Probably using the same pud load they use for the American Eagle stuff.
Well this ammo blows
Weird that its always the first one that doesn't fully extract or fully cycle. From the 4.7" all the way up. Of course like you said small sample but still.
Happens when you powder puff the loads more often :(
So with the new 5.7 chambered pistols do you think the caliber will grow in popularity enough to possibly challenge 22 magnum and we might see some light rifles in 5.7.
Why was the problems with cycling always the first round? That's weird.
Tends to be a thing on 5.7 guns. Always cold bore with slower 40gr rounds.
A bit on the slow side, no?
Yep too slow.
Underpowered
5:15 every diamondback is compatible with all fn Five Sevon mags?
I've found reliability wise only really likes the promags
What’s the most effective 5.7x28 ammo for handguns
For PP/SD/HD?
@@BuffRANGE for self defense I have a fn five-seveN mk3 MRD
@@Crossdariver504 elite Ammo t6B or pro 1 or vanguard outfitters black dragon fang.
I love 5.7x28mm so much
These rounds are comically anemic..................tired of this watered down (and over priced) bullshit these companies are putting on the shelves.
Ballistics gel?
A waste of time. The lack of velocity here is likely going to mimic the vmax performance. This load marked “defense” should NOT be used in that role at all.
@@BuffRANGE I didn't find it on your playlists...but have you, or are you aware of anyone having done gel testing for the 35 gr VMAX, or this NTX at a faster load?
I recall your 40 gr test with Elite's 40 gr vmax expanded into bare-gel, but not denim. So I wonder if the 35 gr might not be a good performer for 5.7x28 and not have to push pressures.
The NTX seems to do well with .223, but no idea if it is =FMJ @ 5.7 velocity. I ordered some and am going to test it myself, but curious if any others exist that you know of.
@@ShastaBean I can try to test this in Gel.
@@BuffRANGE I think your assumption that this stuff is too slow is probably correct...but it might be good to see, anyway. Heck, if it does well at this snail's-pace....? Then a proper load should do great. Thanks, either way. I bought 2 blocks of gel, but for me testing is going to be cumbersome, since I can't just step off the porch like some people can.
@@BuffRANGE If you have any of the new (22 headstamp) Speer, that would be a great candidate to test. I plan to, but since you have a previous batch you tested in the past, would be a good one to compare to. The stuff I shot last weekend was over 100 fps slower, and has a different projectile/tip. Makes me question having that in the magazine I carry.
4.6 grains of powder…. In loading these with 8.2…
Did you say 40gr ammo can choke on the first round if sitting in a mag?
It’s generally slow ammo first shot.
@@BuffRANGE Ok so if I mix ammo in my mag but have the first one be hot then I should be okay?
I should have tested that because I have a few mags with Speer as first shots. Choking ain’t cool.
@@YaYa-ke1zr a lot of it can be temperature related too. I notice it less with warmer temps. Gold dot is loaded hotter than the 197. I would test it if you can spare the ammo.
@@BuffRANGE Ok thanks for the heads up.
@@YaYa-ke1zr Check the headstamp on the Speer. I have some with "20" and some with "22"...the newer stuff has been about 100fps slower from both the LC & R57.
30+1 RUclips can’t handle the truth
I’m glad I didn’t buy that ammo brand
Unreliable. Hard pass.
You're not wrong :D
