watched a lot of Marcus on YT this week, but this interview was my favorite, thanks so much; I'm putting this OB-X8 on my wish list, just as soon as I pay off my Prophet 10 installments

Totally agree. This interviewer did a great job, got Marcus to go deeper into it. I love the sound of this thing and hope there will be a desktop version …

You're going to have wait for a while, I think, if you procrastinate. I called my man at Sweetwater if I can delay my pre-order because of some of my other interests, and he said that if I do that, it will set me back probably 2 years because of such high number of pre-orders that just Sweetwater has on books. The company has (from what I was told) some issues with parts shortages (as it applies to all chips and electronics worldwide), so they have their hands full in trying to fullfil the backlog of such high order numbers.
So I grinded my teeth, bit my lips and kept my pre-order number intact. Mine is reportedly one of the early orders so I should be getting it in the first batch that Sweetwater receives.
What I recommend is that you can place the order (you won't be charged until the actual purchase when your order arrives to your shipper), so you don't have to wait longer than you would want.
Personally, I am as excited as ever. Owning a genuine Oberheim was always a huge dream of mine. I have OB-6 but it really is not the genuine Oberheim, it's more of a hybrid creation of Dave Smith and Tom Oberheim.
Although I love it, and all the other synths I have along with it, I expect this OB-X8 to be a centerpiece of my gear because of THAT sound that is like a drug to me. Always was. I get literally high off of it. In my book, nothing can beat THAT sound color. No MOOG One, no Korg top stuff, or any other well known brand can match THAT sound.
My wife is probably going to be pissed off because I really went crazy this year gear wise but if I pass on it, I know I will not be able to get it later, if ever...you never know what life hits you with...
That's the way I see it.
Sorry if my comment is longer than even I anticipated but I think you really want to order it now so you don't lose your place in line. This synth will be the biggest synth seller in decades. It's a monster of a synth. My guy at Sweetwater said he has never before seen so much interest in an instrument like this one.

With all these great new synths we need new bands in disco-funk-soul-rock-AOR-pop-smooth jazz-fusion.....we need REAL pilots(Musicians) to drive these great machines .

    WOW...
Astonishing to see Mr. Dave Smith alive & kickin' just a few weeks before his sad passing...
It brings tears to my eyes...
    RIP, dear Master.

18:00 Dave Smith's last cameo appearance. Dave has died. I can't believe it. A good friend of mine said he thought he didn't sound as well a few months ago but he looked fine here. R.I.P. Dave Smith the legend.❤

10:26 A classic filter sweep starts very faintly in the background. ... However, I think it might be the dude in the background who's playing an OB-6 that can be seen at 12:45. Might be someone else because that dude has earphones.

that synth is some clean reloading of an old classic. what people want? its as simple as that. just new circuits n stuff, some tweaks, more voices plus the old vibe. if someone wants the old one, buy an old one. if you want another synthesis, buy another synth. nice interview

No iconic blue-black stripes. I know it's OB-X not OB-Xa based/inspired, but still. Anyway, great synthesizer and I like different approach, with levers instead of wheels. Ribbon controller would be nice addition, maybe over the top.

Digging the pitch and mod levers! Still have my Matrix 6 and the control those levers give me for precise interval bends even when set to an octave is a dream. So glad to see them return. I know Korg and Roland have sticks, but the OB levers just work so well.

Great interview, Tom, really enjoyed learning about the team behind the OB-X8. Interesting to hear Marcus stress how important the level of the signal hitting the filter is to the character of the sound. It's out of my price range at the moment, but super cool to see the OB-X8 hit the market, I hope it sells well, sounds sweet.

Yes I looked carefully to see what it was. Classic filter sweeps after 10:27 though they might be from somebody else! Sounded like an OB6 though.

come mai un display così piccolo? Su un palco con tutte le luci e i fumi.. non si vede un tubo. Ma non ci pensano a questi piccoli.. insignificanti.. particolari??????????????????
