    In my opinion I think this is an outstanding piece of equipment.
    I live in Southern California, and I use my radio to monitor and scan the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
    I also purchased the Baofeng AR-152 Tactical Speaker Mic Shoulder Microphone Volume Adjustable Military Grade Handheld Speaker a extra battery and a
    SMA Female to BNC Female adapter So I can swap out BNC antennas.
    I am good to go.

    While researching this radio, I found the TCA PRC-152A with GPS and KDU control unit. I'm thinking about ordering it on Friday. I could also use my Ops Core Amps headset and PTT. I know the GPS works, but other things are just gimmicks. I'm still up in the air on it.

    Old Guy.
    I LOVE the bigger screen.
    I am strong💪..
    I don't care that it's heavy. When they try and put small things in a small design...it does not aide reliability.

      Haha I've had the original Baofeng UV-5R for over 12 years, 4 or 5 of them, and they all are still going strong. They have been used HARD, in hot, dusty, damp and wet muddy environments, snow, etc. They are good little radios. Now in a big city with lots of rf, the rejection on them sucks and they will pick up lots of intermod, but in my rural area, they are GREAT!

    I'd like to see what's inside one. A little UV-5R circuit board with a lot of empty space? I haven't found anyone that's opened one up yet.

      I got mine today. It’s not the junk I was told it was. It put it on the meter and it was putting out 9.74 watts. Then I hopped on the repeater and was told I was coming in better than my $600 mobile setup. I’m still in shock. This is radio #38 for me.

  • @Jana.Milcham
    @Jana.Milcham 9 месяцев назад +3

    Yeah, that battery is a good selling point. But 30% less TX power than claimed by the manufacturer, and I'm getting into the same issues I have with the -5R with the added bonus of more frustration before I need to recharge. The military look may also create problems with how we're perceived by the public, we don't want to be seen to be LARPing (pretty expensive for that form of cosplay). We definitely don't need the perception by LEO's that we're some covert militia, either.
    Yes, the battery is great, and I'm sure for some it looks cool. But we all paid for licenses to do what we do, we need equipment that is both cost effective AND works as claimed (including being weatherproof, which this isn't from what I've seen).

      Some valid points. I can see it having its place for that huge battery though. Strap it to a roll up jpole and you have a great scanner for info gathering.

      To each their own, I don't look down on anyone using a radio to learn and further the community. If all they can afford is a Baofeng, then a Baofeng is better than nothing!!!

      @GregEmburyK4GTE Год назад +3

      @@offgrid.technology That's not what I said- A Baofeng is a good beginner radio if that's all one can afford. But get a UV5r for 29.95 and not this AR-152 for 3 times that. It's the same radio.
