WOW! This game, I cried so much. It had such an impact on me. I was in a zone for a couple of days afterwards. Never has any game EVER had that kind of effect on me. This other ending, it's sadness intermingled with happiness. Amazing.
I bought the physical copy (PS4) from Limited Run. They only made 2,300 copies worldwide. I don’t know why but this game means a lot to me. I relate so much that it makes me cry yet I become emotionally invested
I played the whole game with collecting everything, only not to go there and unlock the secret ending... MEH But I indeed found the spot you show on here XD
Meu deus, acabei de descobrir isso é ja acabei chorando de novo. Esse jogo tem uma força imensa sobre mim, tem muita coisa que acaba pegando de forma pessoal ❤
You don't have to find or visit every small memory of Joseph. But what you need is to collect all 150 stars in the game, all 16 excavation items (marked by the white beam pillars), and 5 hidden digged items (one item per chapter 1-5) to be able to unlock this ending. Basically the very same condition than the Completionist achievement / trophy. See this guide for a list what to find per chapter: steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2135605048 Unfortunetaly, there is no good guide that gives you an easy overview of where to find the excavation and hidden items. But I checked the other guides on Steam and was able to find them all: steamcommunity.com/app/555150/guides/?searchText=&browsefilter=trend&browsesort=creationorder&requiredtags%5B%5D=Secrets&requiredtags%5B%5D=-1 Chasing the hares in chapter 1 and unlocking the special easter bunny egg level is NOT part of the Completionist achievement, nor does this count towards the hidden ending.
For a game that relies on its narrative and is pretty weak on game play, it sure would have been nice if they didn't make narrative like this missable.
Yes, the only hint I found to this secret ending was given 2017 by the developer David Wehle himself on Twitter. It looks like it wasn't found so quick as he expected it to be found. An in-game hint would have been really nice. twitter.com/davidwehle/status/881978372431126528
Ok, I'm confused... how many ending ARE there? I've seen the one where you follow the fox to The First Tree. But that message is simply "I hope to see you in another life" (or does IT change, in how well you complete the game?). But in this, you go to the left, instead of following the fox. Yet, why would you do that, given there is nothing to indicate you should (or anything curious to attract your attention in that direction). And why wouldn't the fox directly lead you to that happy ending? And what's with the fox and the three kits? He carved them, but he did it because of the dream? And why hide it? And you see this (spirit?) fox in real life? Or is this another dream? Sorry... my over-analytical nature is kicking in and I gotta know the WHY to everything. I can't leave things just dangling... I don't like things being left "up to interpretation". If a story is told, it's told for a reason. It has a beginning, middle, and end (or ends).
Only 2 endings. The one with the fox at the tree is the normal one, the fox leads you there. The ending in this video is the secret ending the dev, David Wehle, only mentioned it in a Twitter post 3 years back and was patched in later to the game. But you will find absolutely not hint in the game that this ending exists. This is why it seems very few people have found this endling as it is only unlocked if you found all hidden buried objects and all 150 stars during a game run and you walk at this spot coincidentally. The player MistRiven719, who told me about it, found it just by roaming around the map. Luckily he had collected everything before, else we might not know about this ending even today. For me, this secret ending is concluding the story about Jospeh's father and is connecting the story of the fox with the one of Joseph and his son. The rest is your own interpretation, the dev is not giving us any further details about the ending or why he patched it in later and made it such a secret. The message on the tree ending with the fox is random. Those are messages from other players. In chapter 5, you may write a short memorial in the lenght of how many stars you have collected (150 stars max = 150 letters max). This message can appear for another player reaching the tree, which is a nice idea if you ask me. It is also possible to get a blank message if a player didn't entered anything. I recorded such a blank message during a speedrun I did: ruclips.net/video/acvIMcQnPrY/видео.html
When I played I got the message "This place can be a shelter if you let it." I was nowhere near the internet at the time (car trip and had the Switch in Airplane mode) so I think that's the default message.
if you play with developer commentary he addresses some of your questions: - this ending is not the "real" one but rather an easter egg because it sort of cancels the lessons that we've learned along the way, that's why the fox does not lead you to it. - the message that you see carved on the tree is randomly selected from the messages that other players wrote. - this last level is supposed to be unclear whether it is a dream or not, but the developer thinks it shouldn't matter. therefor it's unclear who carved the message on the tree.
@@EdmondDantes224 I just wrote "I love you". I wish I had written something more profound. I wonder if messages still get added and carved. Especially since the game is on sale on switch and might bring new players like me.
So if you 100 % the game and go to the tree is there any special message written there ? . As i think it is not the same always i had 2 seperate messages at the end .
The messages on the tree are messages written by players at the end of chapter 5. You will get one random neithertheless you 100% the game or not. This is normal game behaviour.
I finished the secret endgame, only bad unsubtitled. To be honest, games dapena finish it completisms implies such a personal journey. I just hope nobody is silly. It's a shame there is an end-in-game hint, not a trophy to suggest.
Actually nothing. The place where the things are buried with the shovel just won't be there at all. That is why it took so long that someone stumbled over it and told others about. I made a screenshot in my guide how the place looks like if you don't 100% the game: steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2135605048 l
I added English subtitles as well if this helps you? I cannot speak Brazilian, sorry. If someone provides me a line to line translation to Brazilian similar to the other subtitles I can add it to this video.
@@Chris-Keles122 maybe if you put the phrases in the Google translator and translate into Portuguese, as I am doing now. But no need if it is uncomfortable, I liked the idea of adding subtitles in the next videos, thanks for answering me❤️

Thank you for sharing this! So touchingly💔
This game was deep. I felt both sad and happy to finish it. Would definitely recommend.
This is a much better ending than the “real” one what the heck
I partially agree, they should have combined both endings into one ending somehow instead of them being separate.
" thank you for making everything right" that part killed me, same thing he said to him when he through his tape out of the car. Ughh😭
Nice, I didn't know there were other endings. Thanks for the video.
