Phil, really liked this review. I think too many guitar companies focus on the old sounds and spec'ing the guitars that way. There's a bigger need to have a fresh and original sound, that means having the equipment to do it. So the old look with modern features is a good way to go.

@@juliusmillermusic Actually, a basic MIM Player Tele goes for $700 new , and the Schecter PT and PT Special go for $600 while offering some features that many players might find attractive. Like a flatter 12" (PT Special) or 14" (PT) radius, jumbo frets, Grover tuners, belly cut, contoured heel, and brass saddles (PT Special). The closest MIM Fenders for players (like me) looking for a Tele-style close to the above specs are the Deluxe Nashville Tele and FMT Tele, both of which go for $850 compared to $600 for a Schecter PT or PT Special. Tone city. This one is a goldtop - Schecter website says the fretboard is ebony, but it's more like good rosewood. Thanks for the walkthrough - I was able to notice a couple of things (i.e., compound neck profile) that I hadn't picked up on. Good review.

The hardware, pickups, playability, along with the fit & finish for the price point is hard to beat. As for modern takes on Telecasters, the Charvel Pro Mod San Dimas Style 2 is amazing and is near the same price point as the Schecter PT. The Charvel Style 2 has the forearm contour, belly cut, 12-16 compound radius, Seymour Duncans or Fishman Fluence pickups, Locking Tuners & Roasted Maple Necks w/ Oil finish that play like butter. I think that someone started selling used guitars as "Vintage", all guitar makers and stores raised the prices high. While shopping for a guitar in the early 80's I was talking to a shop owner when he told me that the Fender in the enclosed glass display case that I was standing next to was $6,000.00. Why I asked? Because Clapton was in his shop, picked it up, and played a few parts of Layla and some blues scales on it. Clapton bought something then left the store. The original price on the tag of the Strat was $449.90. Although quality is everything with any instrument, some builders have priced themselves out of customers. One thing I know for a fact. A well built guitar play's and sounds wonderful to the ears. Learning and understanding how to play makes that step up to an expensive guitar everything. Start with a lower priced instrument and learn to play it well. Save a little money along the way until all of your friends tell you how good you are. Then buy that Gibson "Hummingbird". When you hear yourself playing that instrument you'll blush, then when you hear everyone around you clapping you know that your dream has come true.

Bought my younger brother a Schecter C6 Elite, they're only $240 on musicians friend right now. I personally own an older model 006 Elite, great brand.

I picked up a schecter hellraiser seven string for like 350 bucks on reverb. Definitely a high quality instrument, and at a great price

I love the Schecter PT models for all the reasons you stated. They have dual action truss rods too. You get way more for your money than you would with a Fender.

Bit the bullet and ordered one of these; arrived today. No idea what I'd have to pay to get a Fender that looks/feels as good as it does and I'm not sure I want to know.

2020 might be the year guitar manufactures all recognized the Les Paul. It seems to be the year that the design elements of the Les Paul started being incorporated into other styles more than ever before. Holy Poop! Once you started playing it I instantly fell in love with it. It sounds like every setting is beyond just usable. Every setting sounds BEAUTIFUL! I'm asking myself if I've ever heard anything like this. I'm in love with that guitar now!

It's funny how they are often known for their meh metal guitars while they make some of the best "classic style" guitars out there.

I’d love a review of some B&G guitars at some point ☺️
Very few informed, non sponsored people seem to have picked them up for videos

I've been mulling over a telecaster for a while now and this popped up in my recommendations. I have a Schecter Damien Elite which is great. I really like the look and fast thin neck, not so keen on jumbo frets though. Seems like a bargain though thanks!

I bought a Custom Shop Schecter new, 22 yrs ago...(which I absolutely love..!!!) I bought a Diamond series PT Tele 4 yrs ago, new, (for $500.. a really great deal).. Of course the Custom shop is top notch.. But, I reach for that Tele the most.. It is a VERY versitile guitar.. The pickups neck and fretwork are GREAT..!
There are some good Fenders, for sure, but for the consistency of quality, and bang for the buck.. it's Schecter..!

Ive had a few schecters, great guitars and features for not a crap ton of money. I have a schecter PT special, set up was great, love the neck, the tuners, the feel, staggered brass saddles, has the p90 in the neck and single coil in the bridge, not quite doing it, putting a seymour duncan quarter pound tele set with a custom 57 chevy pick guard . Was gonna do a fender ,really liked the Fender american performer tele, but the schecter fit the budget.

I have an import PT and a custom shop PT. Love them both. Probably will pick up one of these, too, once they've been around long enough to be available at good prices on the used market.

I would have leapt on this one two years or so back, if I did not already have a bunch of good Tele's. I did find an excellent condition, made in Korea, 2004 used Schecter Classic (with tree of life inlays through entire fingerboard, thank God for the side markers as sometimes I get lost, ha) in deep flame blue with the nice OHSC for only $380.01 before sales tax (2 cents for the case) at a local GC. Had been checking those out for years, finally found the one that fit the ticket and budget. Best of all, plays so good, super low action, 24 frets, and has the Seymour Duncan USA Hot Rod set (Jazz SH2/neck and JB SH4/bridge) with five way Strat-style pup selector (2 and 4 positions are the single coil selections, sound good also in addition to the normal three humbucker tones at 1, 3, 5). Super pleased with it. A real gem.

The inlays are pretty much all white pearl color, none of the richer abalone hues like some models I have seen, but I can't complain, as a whole the guitar is just fantastic.

Phil that's a damn nice layout you have there for doing work on guitars. Plenty of room, tool storage, counter space etc etc. The counter mounted light with the long arm is very handy too.

I'm a big Tele fan, and while I've never owned a top-tier Tele, I have owned a Highway One and an American Performer. Great guitars, but the ystill didn't have the features I was looking for so I sold them. The features I liked were the jumbo frets, brass saddles on the Performer, and that they were "USA" Fenders. I've decided I'm going to buy a PT special, which has a bunch of features that you can't find on affordable Teles, even Mexi's.

The "standard" configuration is comfortable, it's familiar. The upside is filtertrons w/split coils and a flat neck w/jumbo frets. It gives you viable alternative or addition to a deluxe.

Charvel (i.e. Fender) offers competitive MIM guitars (with the « right » headstock shape) to those, also with very modern features, and with very high quality and top parts.

I’ve been really thinking about a telecaster. It would be a parts caster tele. I built my last strat, so I would do the same thing for a tele. But definitely arm and belly carve, sand the back of the neck. All the stuff you are talking about with this guitar.
