Hi Lucy, as a person who loves a cruise, I’m enjoying hearing from the crew via interview. I appreciate the crew so much more because of your helpful insights. More interviews would he warmly welcome.
I really appreciate your honesty about crew life. A lot of videos on youtube just highlight the good only and don't properly prepare you for the job. I enjoy that you mix the good and the bad. I also enjoy the crew interviews and getting to hear about other jobs on board.
Lucy, thanks for another informative video. You break things down well, and the lesson of doing-things-one-at-a-time and staying organized, comes through loud and clear. And, YES we love the crew interviews! 😀Keep 'me coming! Fair winds sweetie! 😀
Hi Lucy, thanks for another fantastic video! I absolutely love the crew interviews because in my opinion they go into detail about the different jobs onboard, and what the crew members do in different departments 😁
Every topic you chose to talk about is really interesting. The best interview for me was the nurse, because I feel the MC in a key place in the ship, Can you tell something about the high hofficers, the bridge, the Staff officer.. Have you any anecdote ? (are they kind, arrogant, scaring..??) Thank you !!
One of your best videos (if not the best). You are getting really good at this and I really believe that your videos were great to begin with. I wish you would come to Princess Cruises. They could use a fresh vibrant personality like you. Thank you.
Interesting comparison, when I joined the Army, I was told where my first posting was going to be and that it was for 2 years. I made plans accordingly. Just before I went, I was then told it was going to be just 6 months. At the end of that headed off to posting number 2, for 2 years, apparently. Deployed 5 months in, for 6 months, and total time in the posting ended up being just 14 months. Off I headed to job number 3, after having completed training only 2 years and a few months earlier. Job 3 was 12 months, job 4 was 6 months, then I was told Job 5 was going to be in another new location, but the job was the same as I had already done in posting 2. In the meantime, could I go back to job 3, for 2 months to help out as they were short staffed. My stuff had been in storage for 8 months by this time, literally living with what I could fit in my car. Finally got confirmation of Job 5, which had changed again, supposedly for 2 years. No surprise, I was on the move again after 1 year and 8 months, during which I did 2 residential courses, one for 2 months, the other for 3 months, in a different country from where I was based. My final job, (Job 6), this started after having served 6 years, despite the Army's target of averaging posting durations of 2-3 years, was 2 years and I extended to 3, because I put my papers in and left them with no option but to leave me where I was. To add, I put my papers in because I was given 2 weeks notice to pack up a 2 bedroom house, and move to another country to start another new job, which was the final straw. At the seniority I had by that time, this was totally unacceptable. Similar to what you describe, each move entailed upending every aspect of your life, location, friends, colleagues, and often moving to another country (I managed 3 countries I was posted to, and another 3 countries including deployments and training) over the course of 9 years by the end of it all. It is a lifestyle that doesn't suit everyone. You certainly can't put any roots down, and as for holding down a relationship, impossible. Do it whilst you're young, but definitely have an exit strategy when you want different things out of life.
I was transfer after two weeks; less than 24 hours noticed. I hated so much the new ship, that I had to quit. That was the end of my cruise ships career.
Lucy, did you have to redo all of the drill training when you got to the new ship? I figure there would be overlap, but there would probably be some differences in your duties in the case of emergency.
Hey Lucy, good information! I noticed you said "hoover" for vacuum. Is that a British thing to say? Growing up (in America), my mom used to used that same term even if it wasn't the brand name of the vacuum cleaner. Also, cute blouse!
Dear Lucy, this is a new idea for your videos. Jason Statham recently posted pics from cargo conteinership, probably making a new film. Interesting to know his opinion about his time onboard. Can you make an interview with him? Life of crew on other ships is also interesting topic. What do you think?
Well, it's not the cruise line that she (and many others) work for directly, rather it is a company that contracts to the cruise lines to run various operations and staff. Such as starboard and harding running the shops on-board, and steiner running the on-board spas. So yes, while it isn't common, they can transfer you from one ship / one line, to another, in order to fill a staff position if necessary. So, no a royal ship isn't going to transfer their own personnel to a carnival ship (such as p&o), but the independent companies that staff various operations can. I hope this helps clarify? 😀
I understand that it could be traumatic to get transferred, saying it is more traumatic than a "land job transfer " is naive at best. Packing your one room cabin into a couple of suit cases is in no way more traumatic than having to pack and sell your home , uproot your children from their school, having your spouse, if they work, having to find another job at another state across the country or maybe another country. Giving up friendships that might be years long, to giving friendships that might be months old is not anywhere the same. Not even close.
I like the interviews that you’ve done😊✨ could it be possible for you to interview someone from youth staff? I haven’t found many info about that job🤷🏻♀️🥲
Laura, just an fyi, Lucy just published the interview you're asking for (Kookie was part of the youth staff) last Sunday, Nov 10, 2024. 😀Have a look. And good luck on your future on-board! 😀

Hi Lucy! Would love to know your opinion on the Entertainment departments reassigning of Jobs on Princess
I was transfer after two weeks; less than 24 hours noticed. I hated so much the new ship, that I had to quit. That was the end of my cruise ships career.
I like before what's, thank for another video.
Good video! Is there any chance your company could transfer you to a different cruise line, not just a different ship?
By the way, I have enjoyed the interviews.
Lucy, did you have to redo all of the drill training when you got to the new ship? I figure there would be overlap, but there would probably be some differences in your duties in the case of emergency.
Is the sound balance off? I’m hearing more in my left ear than right? Maybe it’s my air pods?
Same
Yes, Lucy did have an audio recording issue with the new mic. But she has corrected it on new recordings. 😀

Well known brand, so much so that Hoover has become ubiquitous for any vacuum cleaner regardless of brand.
Just like "xerox" means photocopying.

I didn't realise royal could transfer you to another line entirely (P&O), is that normal?
Well, it's not the cruise line that she (and many others) work for directly, rather it is a company that contracts to the cruise lines to run various operations and staff. Such as starboard and harding running the shops on-board, and steiner running the on-board spas.
