What do you think of this big blue EV?

The biggest problem it that it's an EV.

Something about its vibes makes me think of old “dad-style” station wagons
It’s definitely a land yacht, just a tall and electric one

There is an entire big climate control screen for the second monitor that you can setup to the wheel's "star" button. I guess the small one is not really meant for the driver himself but the co-driver especially not when driving.

I said it before I said it again this dude is criminally under viewed and subbed. Every time I see his videos I watch it till the end like and don’t skip ads. Keep up doing what you do Mr. Ethan.

Yeah, the 1000 hp, 0-60 in 2 secs mentality of some EVs is downright negligent and dangerous. The emphasis should be on safety for drivers, passengers and pedestrians, affordability and the environment.

Actually, it's just the measurement of acceleration rate. To me, it has made it safer in avoiding freeway collisions, etc, as I was able to get out of the way quicker. This has happened just a few times over the 10 years I have been driving EVs, but who knows what would have happened if I wasn't able to jump out of the way like a jackrabbit!

Imagine if car brands just skipped all the "luxury" and just made cheap, practical point A to point B vehicles. The Kei car Nissan Sakura is 11,800$ in Japan, so it is definitely possible to make those kind of vehicles if our car infrastructure wasn't built around 2ton+ vehicles running at 60+ mph. These days, even if I had kids I would easily go with a cargo e-bike for 3,000$ instead of a 50,000$+ car. First of, being in debt sucks. Secondly, riding a cargo bike is just a lot safer here in Sweden as you are commuting at decent speed on separated and protected bike paths compared to big roads with fast-driving-, angry- and stressed out commuters. I remember commuting from Malmö to Lund by car and at least once every week there would be an accident on the highway during rush hour (although it is a wide, well-kept highway) Heck, I have nearly been in an accident two times due to other peoples reckless driving.

Cool to see this very car in person, and agreed it looks terrific. I love the detail of the accelerator/brake pedal with a plus and minus sign!

Would have been tempting for me about 5 years ago, but with one kid headed into senior year and two in middle school, a big vehicle isn't in the plans anymore. As it is, our old Santa Fe will be downsized when it's time for replacement... if it survives the younger ones learning to drive in it.
Interesting thing on the climate control screen - that placement and orientation is where GM decided to put the climate controls in my mom's '92 Grand Prix. We had the exact same complaint about it. Some genius told us back in the day it was meant for the passenger to be the one to manipulate it. Uhh.. yeah, that's great, but what if the driver is alone? (And you showcased my problem with voice controls: they can be wildly inaccurate)

The EU EV9 GT 0-60 is speced at 5.3s? Do you know if that's the case? Why would it be different.

What would the real world range be for people in colder regions, like the northeast where you're from? What would the real world range be when it's full of kids and cargo? I'm thinking way too low to make this useable for most people. If Kia cut down the horsepower and 0-60 time in exchange for efficiency, that would make much more sense for this type of vehicle. Oh, and another awesome review, Ethan. Yours has been one of my favorite channels since the beginning!

One thing you missed here about the climate control system. That "+" in the top right corner brings the climate control stuff to the main screen, with cool graphics and access to front and back systems. Only know this because I own one, thought it was dumb like you said, and then accidentally hit that "+" button one day.

Yeah I should have mentioned that! Makes it a bit less dumb! :)

I think that thing *boogies* up the mountain! But so big, and so expensive. Nice interior details, so at least it feels not cheap.

You said it, these things are huge. Looking at one on a computer screen or magazine page, they resemble a Kia Soul. Seeing one in person, however, is a bit of a jarring experience. Like someone gave a Soul the"Violet Beauregarde" experience. I'm not sure the styling/design of the exterior "works" for something this large in my brain.
They might be the same size as a Telluride, but the Telluride/Palisade "wears" this size better.

The wind trim is what most folks need.
Don't be deceived by the MSRP, there's hell lotta money & incentives on the table. Negotiate !!!

Did you hear a whirring sound when the drive selector is put in Drive? If so, can that be turn off? Also, when I test drove one I heard what seemed like 90% of the noise from outside despite all windows being up. Too expensive for a Kia in my opinion

    • @HelloRoad
      @HelloRoad  3 месяца назад

Yes in the settings you can turn off the sounds

The price of EV's is too crazy. And I don't think the mandate for everything EV by 203X isn't going to be as possible as they think.
The price is too high on them, I can afford something like this, but for $80ish grand, I'd rather have a high end sport wagon.
I think in the end, with the push back from consumers and the push back from manufacturers, EV will be an option; but hybrid will end as the dominant force.

The EV9 has two big issue; price and that the Kia Telluride exists. Price a few years ago wouldn't be too bad, but the timing was off just enough with the market to create issues. Oh, and this price is much cheaper than the rest of the world. On the other hand the Kia Telluride is simply too good, significantly less, and depending on your needs and EV charging network around you, the Telluride just makes too much sense. As a standalone product, the EV9 is great.

Evs doing lots of short high speed trips are at there least efficient.
